Chapter 187: Won’t Change
"Why are you yelling at Ruochen? Is she the one who punished Ziyan, or am I the one who punished her? If you have something to say, then say it to my face. Why are you scolding the tree while pointing at the bush?" Han Yichen snapped at his wife. "You are raising Ziyan in such a manner that you have taught her that she is correct in every situation. She has grown spoiled and thinks she can get away with anything. Are you sure you want to pamper her like this? What will she do in the future if she continues to live her life like this?"
"You! You don’t need to worry about anything. Who is pampering whom? All I can see is that you are being unreasonable. You now only care about them, don’t you? It seems like I was wrong about you all along. It was all about blood ties for you, and here I thought that you were a kinder and much wiser man. Fine, you can look after your own kids, but I won’t let go of the promise that I made to my sister. I will dote on Ziyan and treat her well. She still has her aunt to protect her!" Meng Yunhan was not going to take it lying down either. She said what she wanted to say and then turned around before rushing after Han Ziyan.
"What a headache. It seems like I have to keep an even closer eye on the two of them, or else things might get even messier." Both of them acted the same way. Han Yichen was worried that if he did not straighten up Han Ziyan, then she might end up doing something shameless like Meng Yunhan, and that would be quite a big slap in his face.
"Dad, I am going to cook." Han Ruochen still needed to cook dinner for the family. Her father could cook, but he did not know how to make meals for autistic children, and Han Ruochen did not want to prepare separate meals and scatter the kitchen. She turned around on her feet and walked toward the kitchen with Han Beijiang.
She knew what her father was thinking. Her father had noticed the character flaws of her dear adopted sister and wanted to correct them before it was too late. But Han Ruochen knew that it was nothing but a waste of effort. Their mother’s doting had long shaped Han Ziyan’s character. Because her mother did not see anything wrong with Han Ziyan’s actions, Han Ziyan was also unwilling to learn and did not think that there was anything for her to change.
Unless their mother started to change, the chances of Han Ziyan changing were close to none.
However, that was never going to happen. Her mother was a stubborn and proud woman who thought that she was the victim and that everyone should just work according to her. Similarly, Han Ziyan also blamed her father and the Han family for snatching Meng Yunhan from her father. She believed that if Han Yichen had not interfered, then she would have never lived the life of an adopted daughter, and she too would have been doted on by her father and would have had a loving family.
Her father wanted to inculcate good values in Han Ziyan, but what was the point if Han Ziyan did not even want to listen?
Han Ruochen sighed and left her father to his devices; she knew that he would soon be disappointed with Han Ziyan even more because that woman was not going to change.
"Let’s cook something delicious, shall we?" Han Ruochen said to Han Beijiang, who hummed in response and watched his sister keenly as she started to busy herself around in the kitchen. Han Ruochen knew that Han Beijiang liked noodles, so she quickly whipped up some ginger and scallion crab noodles for him. She even rolled the noodles and made them from scratch because she knew that Han Beijiang liked homemade noodles more than market ones.
Cooking the noodles was not difficult. All she needed to do was stir-fry some scallions and ginger along with the crab, and then add them to the noodles after blanching them.
"What delicious things are you cooking?" Han Yichen stepped inside the kitchen. He looked a bit disgruntled, which made Han Ruochen raise her head and look at him questioningly.
Han Yichen’s expression turned even more sullen, and he explained, "Your mother took your sister to the village market."
Han Ruochen pursed her lips. She knew that there was no way her mother was going to let Han Ziyan starve tonight, but she never thought that her mother would even stretch her pocket to the point where she would start using his salary to supplement Han Ziyan, who was already working. Thinking about how her mother couldn’t even use her head, Han Ruochen shook her head. Han Ziyan clearly had the money to eat; why would she need their mother to use her own money to feed her?
Only her mother would be foolish enough to listen to her nonsense!
"Let them do what they want to, Dad. There is nothing that we can do about it." Han Ruochen had long given up on the two of them. She knew that Han Ziyan was quite good and had a silver tongue; it was not a surprise that her mother was getting fooled by her.
Han Yichen shook his head. "I am just worried that your sister might end up causing more trouble in the future. Ruochen, it’s not that I am being biased but you should stay away from Ziyan. I have a feeling that she is not going to sit still in the future."
Her father was indeed correct.
Han Ziyan did not have many skills, but she was quite stubborn and ambitious. Everything that Han Ruochen had, she had to have it too. Thinking about the things that Han Ziyan had done in her past life, Han Ruochen could only shake her head.
"Dad, can you invite a priest to bless the motorboat?" she asked as she suddenly recalled why she did not go to the sea today.
