Chapter 164: Boasting

Han Jianyou took a long, shuddering breath before saying, "Don’t worry, sister, I will certainly work hard on my studies." He did not want to become a fisherman. He had nothing against fishermen, but Han Jianyou knew that his future did not lie in fishing.

Only then did Han Ruochen let him go. She did not want to threaten or scare Han Jianyou, but she was afraid that this brat would forget her warning and go astray again. He only had two years to prepare for the college entrance exams; if he didn’t start picking up his slack, then he would never be able to pass the examinations. Han Ruochen did not expect him to become the top scholar, but she would not let him off if he did not go to the Number One college of their country.

"Then I will believe your promise," said Han Ruochen calmly. She did not want to make Han Jianyou think that she was poking her nose a bit too much in his life. "Don’t let your sister down, alright?"

"Just watch me, sister. I will definitely perform well in the next sessional," Han Jianyou patted his chest and promised. He knew that he had caused his sister a lot of worries and wanted to make sure that she would rest easy with him, slowly changing his ways.

Han Ruochen nodded before taking her leave.

When Han Jianyou saw that she was leaving, he was a little reluctant to watch her go. He did not know when, but he had started to become dependent on his sister more and more. Forget it; he would return home soon and spend some time with Han Ruochen.

With that thought, Han Jianyou cheered up and went back inside.

"Jianyou, what is this?" When Han Jianyou’s dormitory mates saw the things that he was carrying in his arms, they couldn’t help but turn curious. This was the first time they had seen Han Jianyou bringing in so many packages.

Han Jianyou puffed his chest out and replied proudly, "These are the gifts that my sister brought for me."

As he spoke, he placed the gifts on the bed and made sure that everything was visible before sighing. "I told her that it wasn’t necessary, but my sister really worries about me. She brought everything, including late-night snacks for me to eat because she was worried that I would go hungry."

Hearing the long-suffering tone of his, his dormitory mates were simply speechless.

One of the boys looked at the gifts, and his eyes widened when he saw the leather shoes lying on the bed. "Jianyou, your sister even bought you leather shoes? She is really good to you! I have been asking my dad to buy me leather shoes for a while now, and he has been refusing all along!"

Hearing this, Han Jianyou, if possible, turned even smugger. He curled his lips and said, "Of course, if she is not nice to me, to whom will she be good?"

While Han Jianyou was full of boasting, Meng Yunhan was full of tears. She was all alone at the cold and quiet home and could only hear her own breathing. She felt depressed and couldn’t help but shed a few tears. "The two of you are so good. Do you even take me seriously? Do you even treat me like family? Don’t tell me that you are the only ones related to one another, and I am an outsider? Am I not your mom? Even if I did something wrong...you are supposed to forgive me, why hold on to them like this? It’s just so petty."

When Han Yichen and Han Ruochen returned home, they heard the sound of wailing and couldn’t help but frown. Even Han Beijiang hid his face in Han Ruochen’s neck, as he knew that his mother was going to throw another tantrum.

"What is going on with her?" Han Yichen couldn’t help but comment angrily. "She really doesn’t act like the lady of the family. Always acting as if she has been bullied."

Han Ruochen did not comment. Her mother was used to acting like a princess. Everyone was supposed to listen to her and do as she asked, but if anyone refused to listen, then she would start crying as if she had been bullied to death. Her mother had also maintained herself well; because she was worried that Yun Xinye would despise her for marrying a poor man, she refused to partake in the household chores and worked hard to maintain her youth. Thus, she did resemble a little beauty whenever she shed tears.

The two of them entered the house, and as soon as Han Ruochen walked in with Han Yichen, Meng Yunhan’s gaze was attracted to the many bags that she was carrying in her arms. "This....what is this? How much money did you spend? How can you buy so many things? You know we have no money!" From the looks of it, Han Ruochen did not buy just one piece of clothing but three sets and that too for an idiot like Han Beijiang. It was such a waste.

"Ruochen, take the clothes back to Beijiang’s room and cut off the labels; make sure that they are put away properly," advised Han Yichen. Given the look on his wife’s face, it seemed like she was quite dissatisfied. He was worried that when they were not paying attention, she would rush to return the clothes.

Han Ruochen was going to do it anyway, even if her father had not reminded her. She knew her mother too well; though she lived in the Han family and ate and drank the money that her father earned, she still resented her father. Meng Yunhan couldn’t see the Han family doing better.

Given that she had purchased so many clothes for Han Beijiang and bought nothing for Han Ziyan, it would not be a surprise if her mother were to return the clothes. Then all the money that had been refunded would go into her mother’s pockets, indirectly benefitting Han Ziyan and Yun Xinye.
