Chapter 153: Won’t Marry Her
Sure enough, he caught Zhai Muchen peeking at Han Ruochen.
Humph, this brat. Old Master Zhai seemed to have understood what was going on and snorted inwardly. His gaze fell on Han Ruochen, and he was not the slightest bit surprised that his grandson was hooked. After all, Han Ruochen was really pretty. She was not only tall and good-looking but also rather capable. He heard from Xiao Bo that this girl was quite skilled in catching rare seafood, and she even bought a fishing boat at such a young age.
According to Xiao Bo, Han Ruochen was destined to do big things in the future.
Old Master Zhai had no particular demands when it came to his granddaughter-in-law, as long as his grandson liked her. But it seemed like he had to give his grandson a push or else he was worried that he might not be able to carry his great-grandson!
"We should go," after exchanging the pleasantries, Zhai Mumu spoke up for the first time. She had been so quiet for the entire time that Han Ruochen and the rest even forgot that she was with the rest of the Zhai family.
She got up from the couch and looked at her grandfather before saying to him helplessly, "You should take some rest, grandpa. After all, it’s quite late." As she spoke, she looked in the direction of the kitchen and sighed when she did not see the figure she wanted to see.
"Ah, you are right; we have been intruding for quite some time. " Old Master Zhai looked at Old Madam Han and the rest before saying to them politely, "I will be taking my leave now, but if you ever need our family’s help, just know that we will always be willing to help you." As he spoke, he took a special glance at Han Ruochen, who frowned even harder as she did not understand his meaning.
After much pleasantries of ’please stay’ and ’no-no’s, the Zhai family finally took their leave.
"Just in time. I was getting hungry as well," remarked Han Yong as he placed the pot of fried shrimp rice in the dining room along with the seaweed soup and red bean buns.
When Han Ruochen saw him coming out of the kitchen, she could not help but frown. "Brother, were you inside the kitchen all this time?"
"Or else?" Han Yong avoided her gaze and wiped his hands on the apron before stating in a calm tone, "It’s already so late, and we all need to wake up early tomorrow. If we eat a late dinner, what are we going to do, huh?"
"He is right; we do need to wake up early tomorrow," agreed Old Madam Han. "You all have a job to do, even if the rest don’t." She was still upset with Meng Yunhan and her stupid actions of calling an old witch to exorcise Han Ruochen.
Though Han Ruochen admitted that there was a lot of sense in what her brother said to her, she could not help but feel that there was something that he was not telling her. However, even after thinking for a long time, Han Ruochen could not understand what was going on.
On the other side, inside the car that belonged to the Zhai family.
"So, you have something to tell me?" Old Master Zhai asked Zhai Muchen after he separated from Zhai Mumu and Zhai Heng; the two of them were coming in a separate car, as the one that Old Master Zhai drove was not only cramped but also rather slow.
Zhai Muchen peered at his grandpa and arched a brow. "Something to tell you?"
"Don’t try to act smart with me," snapped Old Master Zhai. he glared at Zhai Muchen and stated in a cold and harsh voice, "Do you think that I am a fool who cannot see what is going on? Tell me why you stopped me from taking little Ruochen as my granddaughter. You are not someone who fears my political rivals, do you? If anything, you have been hoping for them to cause trouble for you for a long time."
Zhai Muchen steered the car to the left before replying, "It seems like there is nothing that can be hidden from you, grandpa."
"Humph, you think you can just hide such a thing from me?" Old Master Zhai scoffed. He leaned back on his seat and stated in a calm voice, "But I have to admit that I am surprised. I never thought that you would one day like a woman... finally, the chaotic rumours about you bringing a man as your bride will come to an end very soon, because if I had to listen to such nonsense anymore, I would have jumped from the roof!"
"You speak as if you are confident that Ah Chen will agree to be with me," Zhai Muchen questioned with a hint of helplessness in his tone. It was not that he did not want to work hard, but Han Ruochen was just too wary of him. Though she treated him quite politely, that was all there was to it when it came to her feelings for him.
"Then I will make her my granddaughter. I am telling you, Muchen. I have held enough patience when it comes to you, but not anymore. You are no longer young, and you are almost thirty! To make things worse, your father is bent on having that girl from the Shen family be his daughter-in-law. I would rather make you stay unmarried all your life rather than let you get married to her."
Even Zhai Muchen frowned when he was reminded of Shen Lingxue. Though he did not have any particular disinterest in her, he did not like her either. But his parents, for some reason, wanted him to get married to Shen Lingxue even when he was unwilling.
"Don’t worry, grandpa. I will never marry that woman, no matter what."
Because he already had a woman in his mind whom he wanted to take as his wife.
