Chapter 149: Bringing up old scores (II)
As soon as Han Ruochen arrived inside the house, she saw her mother acting crazy. She was holding a vase in her hand and was yelling at the top of her lungs, "Han Yichen, how dare you treat me this way? Don’t you forget what you have done to me." Meng Yunhan would always use this tactic whenever she felt like she was losing a fight. Every time she knew that things were going out of control, she would do something like this and Han Ruochen was used to it.
However, she did not say anything, nor did she rush to help her father instead, she silently observed what her father was going to do.
"Don’t try to bring the old scores up with me." In the past, Han Yichen wanted to keep the matter hush in front of his children but Meng Yunhan had the bad habit of bringing up this matter every time she was cornered. Thus, since they were young, their children had ’known’ about the dark history of their parents. Though they never said anything, Han Yichen knew that they were aware.
However, in the past, he never settled old scores with Meng Yunhan because he did not want the children to hate their mother. But after seeing through her actions, Han Yichen had no hope for Meng Yunhan. This woman was simply too hateful. It was no wonder that the children would rather go to their aunt rather than live with their mother. It was because of this very reason!
"You keep harping on the fact that you were a victim, but did I have a choice? Do you want me to bring up the issue of why I was drugged and who was the one who drugged me? Meng Yunhan, that situation was not one where you were a damsel in distress, and I was the one who ruined your life! You simply got pierced by the sword that you were wielding, as you did not know that it was a double-edged sword. Who is the one to blame for that? Me or you!?"
Han Yichen admitted that he was not as popular as a city man, but for those who were living in the village and had no chance to enter the city, he was quite a desirable match. One of such women was Meng Yunhan’s good sister and friend. Han Yichen did not want to say the ugly things, but the truth was that he would have never gotten together with Meng Yunhan if not for her own scheming.
Meng Yunhan had set her eyes on the city, but at the same time, she wanted to get close to someone like Han Yichen. After all, Han Yichen was not only handsome but also considerably rich. At least he was the only one who had a house that had a tiled roof over his head. Because of this very reason, Meng Yunhan often played coy with him.
At first, he thought that she was sincere with him and confessed, as he did not want to drag a good woman down by playing with her feelings, but who would have thought that he would hear her talk with her friend, and state quite clearly that she did not like him. It was one thing that she did not like him, but it was another thing that she had taken the gifts that he gave to her and passed them on to her friend, such that she could take advantage of his wealth!
Han Yichen only came to know about this scheme when this friend of Meng Yunhan came looking for him. He was stumped for words when she told him that he was her boyfriend and that Meng Yunhan was their goose. Even when he rejected the woman, she kept on pestering him.
It was only when his mother chased that woman away that she stopped, but who would have thought that Meng Yunhan would lie even more to save her skin. She did not want to become the odd one out in the educated youth centre, so she told the girl that Han Yichen was a scumbag who wanted to abandon the young lady now that he was having marriage talks with another woman.
Of course that young girl believed her words. After all, Han Yichen was indeed going through the marriage talk with another lady and she drugged him. Unfortunately, when Han Yichen was escaping, he ran into Meng Yunhan, who was also drugged by someone and ended up getting tangled with her.
The only reason he never bothered to bring this matter up till now was that Han Yichen believed that no matter what, he had indeed ruined a young woman’s reputation and did not want to cause her harm by bringing up the past, but since Meng Yunhan did not want to give up, he could only drag the old scores up.
When Meng Yunhan heard Han Yichen bringing up the past matters, she flushed red. Indeed, she was the one at fault. She tried to scheme against Han Yichen but ended up getting dragged into her own mess. Could she really blame Han Yichen? The truth was no!
Meng Yunhan bit her lips and looked at Han Yichen with a glare. She could see understanding dawning on Han Yong and Han Ruochen’s faces as they understood the truth. "Han Yichen, you—"
"What, me? What, me!?" Han Yichen questioned furiously. In the past, he used to feel guilty, but after listening to Han Ruochen’s questions, he realised that he had given Meng Yunhan quite a lot of room to manoeuvre the entire house like fools. She even used up all of their savings. Why? Because she did not fear him. She thought that as long as she brought up the old scores, she could settle everything quite easily.
Maybe Meng Yunhan had forgotten what she had done in the past, and it was about time for him to remind her that she was no saintess either!
