Chapter 128: Something Fishy

When Han Yichen returned home, Meng Yunhan didn’t wait for a second before telling him the good news. Though Han Yichen was pleasantly surprised, he still gave Han Ziyan five yuan. Though the money that he gave was less than what her mother gave, Han Ziyan was still happy. After all together this amounted to twelve yuan. With this money, she could easily have meals for three days.

"Old Han, did you see it? Everything that I do is for this family. You keep saying that I am biased toward Ziyan, but look at this; isn’t Ziyan the one working hard? She even found a job in the army. Not like someone who sold her job just because of some petty reasons. I say, even if Ziyan did something wrong, in the end, she is still young. We should teach her patiently instead of losing our temper with her. Look, she is willing to learn and change herself. What is more important than this? Is it necessary to turn your back and put Ziyan down just because of a small mistake? I say that is being too petty!"

Meng Yunhan didn’t forget to pour cold water on Han Ruochen while she praised Han Ziyan to the moon.

When Han Ruochen arrived at the house, she heard the good words of her mother and chuckled inwardly. She turned her attention to her youngest brother and said to him, "Go and wash your hands. I will start working on dinner for you soon."

Unlike the rest of the family, Han Beijiang didn’t eat just about anything; his meals needed to be meticulously prepared before he could eat anything. It was something that everyone in the family knew. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

When Han Yichen heard Han Ruochen’s voice, he was filled with guilt. He couldn’t believe that Meng Yunhan was putting Han Ziyan’s act of stealing her sister’s fiancé as something light. He glared at her and said, "So you mean to say that stealing someone else’s husband or fiancé is just a little thing? It’s because of these kinds of thoughts of yours that she has turned into such a person."

Han Yichen was a traditional man who believed that a woman should be willing to listen to her parents. If they asked her to marry someone, then she should marry that man unless proven otherwise. The marriage between Yang Jiangming and Han Ruochen was settled by their grandfathers, which meant that the elders were the ones who wished to get the two of them married, but because of Han Ziyan’s intervention, such a good marriage was ruined just like that.

And yet Meng Yunhan was saying that this matter was nothing worth talking about. Was she even in the right sense of her mind when she said those words?

He turned to look at Han Ziyan and said to her, "Ziyan, bear this in mind: I am not saying that what you did was unforgivable, but it was not something that could be just considered as a simple mistake. Try to learn from your mistakes and do not learn from your mother; she only knows how to teach you all kinds of bad things."

As he spoke, he didn’t forget to glare at Meng Yunhan for speaking nonsense.

When Han Ziyan heard his words, she was clearly very upset. She had worked so hard, and even now she couldn’t make her father forget the one thing that she had done. She lowered her head and clenched her fingers tight before saying to her father, "Dad, don’t worry, I will make sure that I will learn from my mistakes and don’t cause any trouble for the family."

Han Ziyan had long learnt her lesson. She knew that her father would definitely get upset with her if she were to keep her stubborn attitude. She could only lower her head and admit that she was in the wrong.

If not, she was worried that her father would lose his temper with her.

"I never meant to say that it was a small matter. But I just wanted to say that there is no big feud in the family. To think Ruochen would sell her job just because of a little thing. No matter what the situation is like, one must have a patient mind and never do what she did. It was silly to sell her job and go out to scavenge seafood. Even if she is earning money today, there is no guarantee that she will earn well in the future as well. And she did it despite knowing that there was little to no money at home."

Han Yichen was furious when he heard the words of his wife but he didn’t say anything because somewhere he agreed with Meng Yunhan. His daughter was lucky these days, but what if her luck ran out and she couldn’t get anything good? What would she do then?

Han Ruochen calmly finished cooking the egg fried rice and then said to her father in a quiet voice, "Dad, don’t worry. I know that the conditions at home are not good. So, I will naturally not rely on you or mom, I know that, unlike Ziyan, I do not have a biased mother. So, of course, I would have to take care of myself. I am content as long as I am not forced to marry anyone."

She had mentioned this long ago; her father was a simple-minded person. She did not want her father to be squashed between her and Meng Yunhan. After all, her father would not be able to withstand such pressure.

As long as she had a good life, she didn’t care what her mother thought about her.

She then turned her attention to Han Ziyan. She knew her sister too well. Han Ziyan was not someone who was good at working. Nor did she have any skills that could have got her a job? So where did she get this job? At this thought, Han Ruochen shot a meaningful look at Han Ziyan.
