Chapter 122: Try Something New
Xiao Rui cooped herself up in the room all day long. She didn’t want to go out of her room, as she had had enough of her mother’s nagging.
"Xiao Rui, did you hear? It seems like Han Ruochen is finally going to turn things around for her. Who would have thought that she would one day get tangled with someone like Zhai Heng? Try to get close to her, alright? Maybe you will be able to snatch Zhai Heng from her. I heard what happened with her last fiancé. Her sister was able to snatch Yang Jiangming; you can certainly snatch Zhai Heng as well."
"That woman is not good. She is always carrying that cold face around; no wonder no man likes her. But you should be careful. Don’t try to learn from her; she was very lucky that she was able to escape from the hooligans. If those thugs had gone after her, then those two would have died on that cold street."
Her mother kept nagging in her ears. On one hand, she was envious; on the other hand, she was scared that her daughter would follow Han Ruochen’s example and get into trouble.
"Mom, can you stop talking?"
Xiao Rui was really upset. It was not that she wanted to take her anger out on her mother, but she had no other choice. Back then, she saw Han Ruochen running into thugs; she didn’t stop to see what was going on and ran back home. If only she had stopped and seen everything, then she would have never allowed Han Ruochen to take all the credit alone. The person that Han Ruochen saved was none other than Zhai Heng.
Though Xiao Rui didn’t live in the quad, she didn’t live too far from the quad.
As a result, she knew that the children who grew up in the quad were definitely the source of envy of others.
And if Xiao Rui was honest, her first target was not Su Mo but someone like Zhai Heng. Although Zhai Heng was short-tempered and unruly, he was still the dream husband of many women in the county. However, she had never seen him in her life. So even if she had the intention, she couldn’t have gotten close to him.
Xiao Rui never thought that she would miss the only opportunity that could have led to something more.
If only she had followed Han Ruochen that day and created a favourable impression on Zhai Heng, then they would be able to get close to one another.
Even if she could not have gotten close to Zhai Heng, with her being the saviour of the Zhai family, they would be able to ask for help from the Zhai family in times of difficulties.
Such a good opportunity had just slipped from her fingers just like that. Xiao Rui, who had some hidden intentions toward Zhai Heng, felt like the sky had fallen. As for Han Ruochen, her hatred grew even more.
In Xiao Rui’s eyes, if not for Han Ruochen’s intervention, then the one who would have saved Zhai Heng would be her. Han Ruochen had taken the credit for it, but the truth was that it was she whose opportunity Han Ruochen had stolen.
"Han Ruochen! You just wait!" Xiao Rui was filled with rage at the mere thought of how Han Ruochen would be able to get chummy with Zhai Heng.
*
Han Ruochen had no idea that Xiao Rui was determined to go against her, even though she had forgotten her name and existence. She walked over to the shore with Tong Zhaodi and heard her say, "Where are we going? Are we going to the cliff again?"
"There is no point in going there anymore." Han Ruochen refused with a shake of her head. "The villagers might have already heard that I found two conger eels there. So it will be crowded."
She then turned to look around and added, "Let’s go to the Four Caves."
"It will be a bit far from here, but it will be better than getting stunted."
When Tong Zhaodi heard that they needed to go to the Four Caves, she felt like her legs had turned to jelly. Seeing the look on Tong Zhaodi’s face, Han Ruochen rolled her eyes at the little woman. She said to her, "Don’t worry, I will not take you there on foot. I will bring my bicycle here."
Han Ruochen returned home and then brought her grandma’s home cycle to the shore. She knew there was no point in going home, as Han Ziyan had long taken over her cycle.
Tong Zhaodi didn’t say much when she saw that Han Ruochen had brought an old cycle. She sat down behind the cycle, and the two of them rode to the Four Caves. By the time the two of them arrived at the Four Caves, Han Ruochen was really tired. The location of the Four Caves was really far from the shore, as it was the outlet of the Great Feng River. These caves were the openings that brought the water to the ocean.
Most of the water resources of their village were linked to this point.
Han Ruochen chose this place; first, this place was relatively flat, and secondly, she wanted to come here and see if there was something new here. Maybe she would be able to get something even rarer.
After all, this was the place where two kinds of water met. One was salt water, and the other was fresh water. Thus, this water was rich in both saltwater and freshwater seafood. When she arrived at the shore, she saw there was something wriggling in the sand.
This was...
Earthworms? Was it not?
Although Han Ruochen didn’t know what specific kind of earthworm it was, she knew that this was a good thing. She had long wanted to try the universal bait box. Maybe she would be able to use this earthworm for it?
