Chapter 1324: Chapter 1324: A Narrow Escape
Mr. Ye acted quite swiftly, catching an early flight back home before the sixth.
If he didn’t leave, he worried that his old bones might crumble abroad, especially with his divorced stepwife causing such a ruckus.
This time, he transferred most of his business back to China, given the country now has favorable investment policies. He spent most of his life wandering abroad, and he wanted to do something for his homeland.
Besides, he’s getting old and desires to be surrounded by his grandchildren. Bringing his assets back home would save them from being coveted.
Yet, he underestimated the lengths a woman mad with rage could go.
Even as he congratulated himself for everything going according to plan, unbeknownst to him, his divorced stepwife had already sent people to target his two precious grandchildren.
Xinyan and He Jinxuan packed up, ready to head to the airport.
Just as they stepped out of the yard, the phone inside rang: "Hello, who’s calling?"
"Jinxuan, it’s Liyan."
"Are you on your way?"
"No, something came up. I might not make it in time to pick up Sili and Siyan. Could you swing by to get them? I’ll meet you directly at the airport."
"Alright, Yanyan and I will go over to pick them up. You take care of your things for now. Drive safely."
After hanging up the phone, He Jinxuan turned to Xinyan waiting nearby: "Did you hear all that?"
Xinyan nodded: "Yeah, I heard it. It’s typical of him, nothing surprising. For Mr. Ye and Brother Ningchuan, those little guys mean more."
They joked and laughed, locking the door and getting into the car together.
Yesterday, Xinyan specifically picked up her mother’s car for convenience in picking up people from the airport today.
When the car arrived at Ye Silai’s school, He Jinxuan casually turned his head and noticed something wrong with a car in the corner. The car was shaking, and earlier, he spotted two little legs kicking forcefully and a big hand pulling them inside.
Xinyan parked the car and noticed his gaze: "Jinxuan, what are you looking at?"
He Jinxuan did not avert his eyes: "That car in the corner seems suspicious."
Military trained, he was sensitive and alert to potential danger: "Yanyan, wait here for a moment. I’m going over to check it out."
Xinyan nodded but also followed him, closing the car door and trailing behind.
Just before they reached the suspicious car, it suddenly revved up and sped away, escalating the sense of urgency.
Xinyan instinctively hurried back to their car, started it, and began the chase.
He Jinxuan followed suit, jumping into the car.
Perhaps realizing they were being pursued, the car in front floored the gas pedal, causing other vehicles to frantically dodge out of the way.
For a moment, the limited number of cars on this road was filled with blaring horns and heightened danger.
Luckily, with Xinyan’s frequent driving practice, her skills were on par with the driver ahead, keeping close on their tail.
But this couldn’t go on; if the children were truly kidnapped, the chase could put them in more danger.
The speed also posed a risk of accidents, endangering the passengers even further.
Just then, He Jinxuan noted, "There’s a bridge under construction ahead, with piles of sand and stones on the right side of the road. That’s the best spot to force them to stop."
Xinyan immediately understood his intent. Feeling the tension from this risky venture, her palms were sweaty, and her hair stuck to her sweaty forehead.
Thankfully, with the car’s good performance, Xinyan executed a sharp maneuver at a curve to overtake them, then slowed down near the construction site, leaving them no time to react.
They faced two choices: crash directly or swerve into the sand and rocks.
The gamble paid off; valuing their lives, they swerved sharply, steering into the heap.
As they sat shocked and disoriented, He Jinxuan leapt from the car and raced forward.
Xinyan also hit the brakes hard, pulling over and running straight toward the car trapped in the sand.
