Chapter 492: Chapter 175: Jing Qi Confronts Li Axiu, Part 2
Jie Jingchen gave her a sidelong glance and strode out without a word.
"In-laws," came Li Axiu’s voice.
Jie Jingchen was in the kitchen cooking, Qin Mei was in her room with the fan, and Jie Jingshan emerged from her own room. Her legs had healed, she no longer needed medication, and she could walk normally again.
"Jing Qi, where are your parents?" Li Axiu asked Jie Jingshan, smiling broadly.
Jie Jingshan glanced behind Li Axiu and breathed a sigh of relief when she saw the woman was alone. "Aunt Li, my parents aren’t home from work yet. Did you need something?"
"Heh," Li Axiu chuckled. "It’s nothing too important. It’s just that your second brother and my daughter got their marriage license today, so I wanted to discuss their wedding banquet with your parents."
This wasn’t something Jie Jingshan could weigh in on, so she said to Li Axiu, "When my dad gets off work, I’ll tell him. I’ll have him go to your house to discuss it."
Li Axiu did not like the sound of that. ’Everyone knows Doctor Qiao wears the pants in that family. What’s the point of discussing things with just Director Jie? Discuss my ass! This girl, Jing Qi, is quite cunning. It’s "my dad" this and "my dad" that, never once mentioning her mom. And on top of that, she won’t let us come here to talk to them; she’s sending her dad over to the Lin Family’s house to talk to us.’
"Jing Qi, do you have a problem with my daughter?" Li Axiu asked.
"I do," Jie Jingshan admitted.
Li Axiu’s expression faltered. She had expected Jing Qi to offer some pleasantries, considering Yaru was now her second sister-in-law. She never imagined Jing Qi would admit it so bluntly.
"Then tell me, what problem do you have with your second sister-in-law? I’ll go back and remind her so she can change her ways," Li Axiu said, forcing a smile.
"I don’t like people who’ve had designs on my fourth brother. And I absolutely detest people who want to destroy the marriage between my fourth brother and my fourth sister-in-law." Jie Jingshan stressed the last sentence, her gaze turning incredibly sharp as she looked at Li Axiu.
Listening to Jing Qi’s words, Qin Mei was deeply moved. ’Jing Qi is really so protective of me.’
Li Axiu could no longer smile. She hadn’t realized Jing Qi’s hostility toward Yaru was this intense. She took a deep breath. For the two families to get along, and to get her son-in-law to move back in, she couldn’t afford to offend Jing Qi.
’Even though Jing Qi is young and just a girl, her influence in this family cannot be underestimated.’
"Ah, Jing Qi! There’s no denying that the person Yaru liked was your fourth brother. And you know it too, your fourth brother abandoned my Yaru, your fourth brother..."
"Aunt Li, please watch your words," Jie Jingshan interrupted. "My fourth brother did not abandon your Yaru. My fourth brother never liked your Yaru in the first place. The person my fourth brother loves is my fourth sister-in-law. If you say any more of these baseless rumors that could affect their marriage, don’t blame me for disregarding our neighborly ties."
Li Axiu was stunned. ’I was actually intimidated by a little slip of a girl.’
’First things first. It’s pointless to bicker with a young girl about this stuff. Besides, Yaru has already registered her marriage with Jing Er. There’s absolutely no chance for her and Jing Si anymore.’
"Let’s not talk about the past," Li Axiu said. "What matters now is that Yaru is your second sister-in-law. Until you get married, you’ll be living in the same courtyard. You’ll be seeing each other all the time. I don’t expect you to treat her the same as your fourth sister-in-law, but I do hope you can get along with her peacefully."
"My second brother moved to the machinery factory," Jie Jingshan said. "A wife should follow her husband, so your daughter will be moving to the factory as well. We won’t be living in the same courtyard and we won’t be seeing each other, so of course we’ll get along."
Li Axiu was so furious she wanted to curse. Taking several deep breaths to suppress the urge, she let out a cold snort and turned to leave.
’Jie Jingshan can’t make the final decision, and it’s pointless arguing with her. I’ll wait for Director Jie and Doctor Qiao to get back, then I’ll bring my daughter and son-in-law over. I refuse to believe that Director Jie would stop them from moving back in, not when my daughter is pregnant.’
’This courtyard is huge and has so many rooms. It’s a hundred times better than the factory housing. I can’t bear to make my pregnant daughter move into a place like that.’
Jie Jinghun and Shen Qing arrived home from work, entering the courtyard just as Li Axiu was leaving.
"Aunt Li? What’s going on?" Jie Jinghun stopped and looked at the fuming Li Axiu.
"Hmph!" Li Axiu just snorted. She had a problem with Jie Jinghun, too. ’He and Jing Er are full-blooded brothers, yet he insists on siding with Jing Si.’
Jie Jinghun raised an eyebrow. He found her hostility completely baffling.
Seeing that only Jie Jingshan was standing in the courtyard, Jie Jinghun asked curiously, "Jing Qi, did you provoke her?"
