Chapter 491: Chapter 491: Return to Aethelgard
Looking at Warren Prescott’s weak appearance, Ashley Shaw’s soft-hearted nature kicked in.
She found it hard to blame him, so she could only let him be.
Following along is no big deal, she wouldn’t lose a piece of herself anyway.
The two walked all the way to the dormitory entrance, where Warren finally stopped.
Ashley said, "I’m here, you should head back."
Warren opened his mouth and, gathering his courage, asked, "Can I come to see you tomorrow?"
Ashley replied, "We’ll see, I might be going out with Ariana tomorrow."
"We’ll see" meant there was still a chance.
Warren nodded vigorously, "Alright! I’ll wait for your message! You go on up and rest well, you must be tired these past few days."
Ashley nodded, feeling this scenario was indeed strange.
After being reborn, she hadn’t chased him, but now it was him chasing after her.
In her previous life, she never imagined their relationship would turn out like this, and surprisingly, it wasn’t exhilarating; her heart felt an odd calm.
Warren watched as Ashley walked into the dormitory, disappearing from view, before he turned back.
Walking, he dialed Assistant Lowell’s number.
The call was answered almost immediately.
"Mr. Prescott Jr., you’re back?"
"Yes," Warren replied, "Help me set up a meeting with Owen Sinclair."
"What? Oh! Yes!"
Ending the call, Warren continued walking towards the school gate, realizing someone was following him.
He frowned and turned to look back.
Behind him was a girl with a plain face and slightly large cheeks.
Not expecting him to suddenly turn around, the girl was noticeably startled.
But she quickly gathered her courage and walked over to him.
The girl was none other than Evelyn Vaughn.
She took a deep breath and hurriedly caught up, saying, "Hi, classmate..."
Warren frowned, "You are?"
"My last name is Vaughn, I’m Evelyn Vaughn..."
Warren thought she was just trying to flirt, and directly said, "Sorry, I have a fiancée."
Evelyn’s eyes showed clear shock but she confirmed, "Is Ashley your fiancée?"
Warren’s face softened slightly at the mention of Ashley Shaw’s name.
"Do you know her?"
This was an affirmation that Ashley Shaw truly was his fiancée.
Evelyn couldn’t describe her feelings—mostly shock, but also a significant amount of jealousy.
Jealousy brewed plots in her mind.
She suppressed her complex emotions and said, "I’m in the same class as Ashley. During military training, she was the class president, and I was the student representative and vice president, so we got along well."
Hearing "got along well," the coldness in Warren’s eyes completely melted.
"So you’re Ashley’s friend... What do you need from me?"
Evelyn noticed his change in expression and smiled, "Oh, it’s nothing really. I just didn’t know you were Ashley’s fiancé earlier, and thought you were chasing her, so I wanted to remind you."
Warren raised an eyebrow, "Remind me?"
"Yes, Ashley is pretty popular at school, there are several boys from our class who’ve confessed to her on the school’s confession wall..."
Warren’s eyes showed suspicion, "What’s a confession wall?"
"You don’t know? How about this, let’s add each other on WeChat, I’ll share the confession wall with you. Also, if any guy bothers Ashley, I can inform you immediately."
Warren hesitated for a moment, Jensen Hayes’s face flashed in his mind.
He agreed, took out his phone, and added Evelyn Vaughn on WeChat.
Evelyn said, "I’ll share it with you shortly!"
"Thanks."
"No worries, you’re Ashley’s fiancé, that makes you my friend too, we’re on the same side, no need to be so formal."
"Alright."
Evelyn didn’t push further, saying, "I won’t disturb you any longer! I’ll keep an eye on Ashley, and make sure no one eyes her!"
Warren thanked her again, and Evelyn said it was nothing before turning and leaving.
Meanwhile, Assistant Lowell also arranged a meeting with Owen Sinclair, in a tea restaurant in an hour.
Owen, fretting over how to explain things to Ashley, agreed immediately upon hearing Warren wanted to meet.
They met and had a candid conversation for a long time.
After discussing matters involving Ashley Shaw, Owen looked at Warren and smiled, "Do you have a crush on my Ashley?"
Warren slightly frowned.
Although it was a confirmed fact that Ashley Shaw was Owen’s daughter, hearing him say "my Ashley" inexplicably made his heart feel a bit sour.
But he quickly pushed down the discomfort and nodded frankly, "Yes, I like her."
Owen initially meant to tease him, but seeing Warren actually admit it, his smile faded.
"How much do you like her?"
"Enough to want to marry her, to be with her for a lifetime."
"..." This father hadn’t even acknowledged his daughter yet but was already hearing another man confessing to her, making his heart undeniably ache.
Warren continued, "Father-in-law, shall we make a deal?"
"What kind of deal...?"
"I’ll find a way to help you gain favor with Ashley, strive to let you acknowledge her quickly, you help me pursue her."
Owen pondered for a while and said, "Why do I feel this deal isn’t favorable to me?"
Warren gave a slight smile, "No, you gain from this. I can give you a piece of information..."
"What information?"
"Aren’t you curious about Ashley’s attitude towards the father she’s never met?"
This hit Owen right where it mattered most.
He sighed and said, "As long as you can ensure you’ll treat Ashley well in the future, and never let her down, I can make this deal with you."
Warren extended his hand, "Pleasure doing business."
...
Elsewhere, Ashley Shaw returned to the dormitory for a bit of rest and then messaged Ariana Grant, telling her she was back at school.
Lynn Redding and Jocelyn Hayes were both back in the dorm, so only she was there alone.
But soon Ariana came up.
Not only did she come up, she even brought her bedding along.
She placed her bedding on an empty bed in the dorm saying, "Since you have space here, I’ll stay for a few days."
Ashley smiled and nodded, then thought of Leon Zeller, "Didn’t that wilderness survival show just finish a few days ago? Has Leon contacted you?"
Ariana scratched her head.
"I was just about to tell you! He contacted me yesterday, but he returned to Westcroft and I’m in Aethelgard... I told him it was too far and inconvenient, so we shouldn’t meet for now."
Ashley raised an eyebrow lightly, "Then? Did he give up?"
Ariana showed a face full of concern.
"If he gave up, I wouldn’t be reacting like this..."
"What did he say?"
"He said he’s going home to spend some time with his parents for a couple of days, and will come to Aethelgard tomorrow to find me."
Ashley’s eyes lit up, "Did you agree?"
Ariana sighed and said, "I haven’t replied to him yet..."
