Chapter 883: Chapter 883: Confession

Who gave him that confidence?

Had Sterling already forgotten how he’d gone to Silvester Norwood for advice back then.....

Thinking of what Sterling had done at the time, Selena felt it was funny, but at the same time she also felt fortunate.

Thankfully...they hadn’t missed it this time.

"Come on, let’s go back." Sterling stood up from his seat with Selena in his arms.

Suddenly being lifted up, Selena instinctively wrapped her arms around Sterling’s neck.

She glanced at the two little ones. "What about them? They just woke up, they’re probably full of energy..."

Seraphina and Celeste had just woken up; telling them to go back to sleep was obviously impossible.

Sterling gave the two little ones a glance, then withdrew his gaze. Carrying Selena as he turned to leave, he said, "We’ll have the servants from the main house watch them."

Selena: "..."

Selena glared at him helplessly.

Then, a bit worried, she turned her head to look back at the two little ones.

Fortunately, the two kids didn’t show any signs of making a fuss; even Celeste just obediently watched them leave.

Sterling carried Selena back to the bed in their bedroom and set her down.

Playing with Selena’s fingers, he said, "I have to make a business trip tomorrow."

Selena was startled when she heard this. The drowsiness still lingering in her eyes vanished at Sterling’s words.

"A business trip? Where to?" Selena asked.

In her impression, aside from the period right after they got married when Sterling had been busy and often on business trips, he basically hadn’t had any major travel after that.

As the Family Head of the Norwood Family, at his level, there were very few matters that actually required his personal presence.

Most of the time, he just needed to give orders, and the people under the Norwood Family would naturally take care of things properly.

He only needed to stand at the top and keep control of the overall situation.

So, for Sterling to go on a rare business trip, Selena actually didn’t believe in her heart that it was anything good.

Sterling made a small sound of acknowledgment. "To Rhodor."

Rhodor...

Hearing this name, Selena immediately thought of Kuriyama Yuna.

Selena asked, "Is it something to do with the Kuriyama Family?"

Sterling glanced at her, then lightly nodded.

He went on, "This period, Rhodor is in the middle of an election, and the party the Kuriyama Family supports has recently been sabotaged by their opponents. They’ve joined forces with some factions in Rhodor to put pressure on the Kuriyama Family..."

"Originally this was just an internal struggle within Rhodor, only...yesterday Kuriyama Yuna told me that during their clash, something similar to pseudo-humans appeared. And those people had a very clear target—the Kuriyama Family."

Sterling said in a low voice.

Hearing Sterling’s words, Selena’s eyes also darkened slightly.

Once things got entangled with pseudo-humans and the descendants of the Fell Bloodline, then this was no longer a simple internal power struggle.

Someone wanted to use this internal election struggle in Rhodor as a chance to strike at the Kuriyama Family.

And since pseudo-humans had appeared, Selena could more or less guess who it was.

It was the other faction that had split off from The Godsbane Organization.

They’d been unusually active lately. Did they think...they were already strong enough?

Selena glanced at Sterling, feeling a bit nervous inside.

Should she take this chance...to tell Sterling everything?

If she kept dragging it out, Selena herself didn’t know when she’d be able to get those things out.

With that thought, Selena made up her mind.

She gathered her courage and spoke.

"Sterling, I..."

Selena took a deep breath. "Do you think it was people from The Godsbane Organization who made the move?"

Sterling lifted his gaze and looked fixedly at her.

A faint glint seemed to flash in his eyes. "Yeah."

Sterling answered with a soft sound.

Seeing him like this, Selena didn’t know why, but a lot of the tension in her heart faded.

She shifted over, leaning against Sterling’s shoulder, then tilted her head up to look at him. "Then what if I told you The Godsbane Organization has been split into two factions?"

The arm Sterling had around Selena’s shoulders stilled.

He didn’t answer her question right away, and Selena simply watched him quietly, waiting for his response.

In truth, Selena was incredibly nervous inside at this moment, but she was forcing herself to stay calm.

After a long moment, Sterling let out a sigh.

He lowered his head.

Selena happened to crash straight into that deep pool of sapphire blue eyes.

Right now, reflected in those eyes was her own face full of nervousness.

Sterling lowered his head and pressed a kiss to Selena’s lips.

"I already guessed as much," Sterling murmured.

Selena’s eyes widened slightly.

She hadn’t had time to say anything before Sterling sealed her lips again.

"Mmh..."

She was forced to tilt her head back and take it.

Sterling’s kiss wasn’t as urgent or oppressive as Selena had imagined. On the contrary, there was a hint of gentleness in it, a soothing undertone.

The soft, fine touch made Selena feel much calmer for a moment.

Sterling was soothing the nervousness she’d just felt.

The kiss ended.

Sterling pulled back.

He lifted his hand to pinch Selena’s cheek, a faint smile in his eyes. "Hmm? Anything else you want to come clean about?"

His voice was hoarse and low, carrying a deep-seated indulgence and pampering for the woman in front of him.

Selena: "..."

A trace of disbelief flashed in Selena’s eyes.

"You..." she blurted out in surprise. How did Sterling know?!

Could it be...he’d already known she was hiding a lot from him?

And he just never called her out, just waited for her to tell him herself?

Sterling seemed to see the doubt in Selena’s eyes. He nodded slightly.

"Yeah."

Sterling’s answer felt like he was responding directly to what Selena had been thinking.

The person Sterling cared about most was Selena.

Any small change in her, Sterling could very well pick up on.

So, all of Selena’s earlier reactions had in fact fallen right into his line of sight.

He just hadn’t said anything, because he also wanted to see what his wife was planning.

Besides, rather than discovering it himself, Sterling preferred Selena to tell him of her own accord. That way he felt she cared about him, instead of hiding things and doing them on her own.

For a moment Selena didn’t know what to say. She buried her head in Sterling’s chest, her voice a bit muffled. "...Why didn’t you say something sooner."

He’d let her agonize over this for so long.

Sterling laughed as he pulled her onto his lap. "I was waiting for your confession."

When Sterling went after the leads on Cole Vaughn and Zoe Sinclair, it was impossible for him not to uncover other things.

And using that information, he’d been able to faintly piece together some things.

He’d just never said it out loud.

Selena muttered, "Guess that makes us even..."

Selena had been hiding things from Sterling, but hadn’t Sterling also been hiding things from her?

Hearing the faint anger in Selena’s voice, the corners of Sterling’s lips curved.

He liked his wife like this.
