Chapter 859: Chapter 859: The Names of the Two Little Ones
Hearing Selena Kensington’s words, Sterling Norwood frowned slightly.
His words held some disagreement, "It’s so late, you still want to go?"
Selena was a bit displeased and pushed him again, "Aren’t I worried that they might be scared and looking for their mom? We’ll just sneak a peek."
Sterling knew that once Selena set her mind on something, if it wasn’t fulfilled, it would linger in her heart.
So, he didn’t stop her any further.
"Alright, let’s go."
Seeing that Sterling was relenting, Selena happily got out of bed.
Sterling held her hand and led her out of the bedroom.
The nursery was right next door, very close.
Also, because the main house was well soundproofed and they worried about not hearing the kids crying, the nursery door was left slightly ajar.
Selena and Sterling quietly entered inside.
The nursery wasn’t completely dark.
A warm yellow light illuminated near the crib.
Seeing the two little ones sleeping soundly, completely unconcerned if their mom was present or not, Selena fell silent.
"..."
Selena’s tone was somewhat dejected, "Why are they so well-behaved, don’t they ever cry for their mom?"
She remembered Hugh Kensington wasn’t like that before.
Young Hugh was quite the handful, especially clinging to Selena.
If Selena went somewhere without her, she would surely find little Hugh sitting at the doorstep with a face full of reproach and traces of tears still on her cheeks.
Sometimes Selena was so overwhelmed, she had no choice but to subdue Hugh forcefully.
So now, with her own kids being so well-behaved, showing no signs of the usual child’s fussiness.
This made Selena feel her inclination to be a strict mother had no outlet.
She even fantasized, if her kids were whimsical and clingy, what would she do?
But looking at the current situation, it seemed she wouldn’t even have the chance...
Sterling looked at her helplessly, "If they were really crying and fussing around you all day, could you handle it?"
"..."
After a few seconds of silence, Selena honestly shook her head.
"Then forget about it."
It’s normal for kids to cry once or twice, but if they were as clingy as young Hugh, Selena might have already gone mad and thrown them out.
Upon hearing Sterling’s words, the corners of his lips subtly curved.
Selena lowered her head, looking at the two sleeping little ones, her heart softened.
She glanced at them and then looked at Sterling with a smile, "These little ones already have your features."
Hearing this, Sterling lowered his eyes and looked at them, a subtle glint flashed in his eyes.
He wrapped his arm around Selena’s waist from behind and turned to kiss her.
Then he lazily spoke, "We should head back."
After watching for so long, Sterling wasn’t sure if Selena would suddenly change her mind and want to take the kids back to sleep.
Hearing the urging in Sterling’s words, Selena gathered her faint annoyance and nodded.
Just as she was about to leave, something seemed to occur to her, and she glared at Sterling.
"Wait, have you thought of names for the kids?"
Sterling "..."
Seeing Sterling fall silent again, Selena knew he probably hadn’t.
She was a bit exasperated, "You don’t need to force yourself, if you really can’t think of anything just..."
Before she could finish her sentence, Sterling interrupted, "I’ve thought of them."
Selena stopped in her tracks at Sterling’s words.
Considering the kids, Selena’s voice wasn’t loud, but it couldn’t hide the surprise in her words "Really? When did you come up with them?!"
"Just now."
Sterling ruffled Selena’s hair as he spoke.
"...Stop it." Selena was initially surprised, but hearing Sterling’s words, she immediately rolled her eyes.
What could he think of in such a short time?
He must have just cobbled together something to avoid making her angry.
Selena turned and poked Sterling’s chest, muttering, "Don’t just throw random names at me."
Sterling encased the hand poking him in his own palm and chuckled.
He then looked towards the crib where the two slept peacefully and slowly spoke.
"The boy is named Jasper Norwood, and the girl is named Celeste Norwood."
His voice was calm, sounding just as always.
But behind this calmness lay a hint of tension.
He worried if Selena would dislike these names.
"..."
When Selena heard the names Sterling gave, she froze.
Her heart burst with the brilliance of fireworks.
Her feelings at that moment were indescribable.
But Selena knew she was delighted, she was joyful.
That feeling of being held at the pinnacle of the world, Selena thought, she had been experiencing all along.
This man truly loved her to his bones...
Even the names of their children were intertwined with her...
Selena didn’t need to ask, she knew exactly which letters were in the names Sterling mentioned.
It took her a full minute before she snapped back to reality.
When Selena regained her senses, she realized Sterling had been watching her nervously all the while.
Her prolonged silence had nearly let Sterling’s previously hidden anxiety spill over his eyes.
Seeing Selena turn to stare at him, Sterling spoke with a hoarse voice, "You don’t like them?"
His throat had become a bit parched from the earlier tension.
Selena stared at him for a while, then suddenly smiled.
Her voice was soft, carrying love and delight.
"No, I love them."
"Love them so much... I don’t even know what to say."
Hearing Selena’s voice, Sterling couldn’t suppress the rise of the corners of his lips.
He held Selena, as if wanting to merge her entirely into his being.
Selena let Sterling hold her, her eyes tenderly gazing at the two little ones sleeping peacefully.
Her voice was soft, "You have names now."
"Little Jasper, Little Celeste."
When she heard the names Sterling gave, Selena realized then that Sterling... hadn’t abandoned these children.
He still loved them.
It’s just that he wasn’t good at expressing it, nor did he care to.
That’s why Selena had previously thought Sterling was very resistant to the arrival of the two children.
But after hearing Sterling seriously naming them today, Selena’s little bit of worry disappeared.
What father wouldn’t love his own children?
