Chapter 16: Chapter 16: Taking the Bait
Editor: Inschain
The elderly man, now over fifty, wore a pair of glasses and nodded with satisfaction as Selena Kensington entered.
"Young lady, I read that script you showed me last semester. It’s quite good; the younger generation truly is impressive."
Selena was startled at first, then realized that she had handed her self-written film script to Heath Hayes at the end of last semester, asking him to help with revisions.
Heath Hayes had helped her make many revisions and even suggested she could shoot the film, but in her previous life, she had refused.
Later, however, Miranda Kensington found the initial draft of the screenplay in Selena’s old room in the Kensington Family home and took it to present to Roxanne Sutton. The movie was made and received quite a bit of praise.
It also brought Roxanne Sutton a lot of attention.
But now, how could she let things go as they wished?
"Teacher, you’re too kind," Selena humbly said. Heath Hayes nodded with a smile and started discussing serious matters, "Do you have any plans to have this script made into a film? This old man has quite a few connections..."
Selena was silent for a moment. "Teacher, I do have this in mind... but I want to shoot it myself."
Heath Hayes was even more pleased and patted Selena on the shoulder. "Naturally, it’s your script. Who else could direct it if not you?"
But Selena shook her head. "What I mean is, I want to handle the screenwriting, directing, and casting all by myself."
Heath Hayes was slightly surprised. "Young lady, you have quite the ambition, but you know the situation with your family."
If Selena had inherited Stardust Entertainment, then this wouldn’t be a problem.
But currently, Stardust Entertainment was controlled by Selena’s uncle’s family, and Heath Hayes was well aware of their nature, hence his concerns.
If they found out, they would have messed up Selena’s script a long time ago.
"Don’t worry, teacher. Stardust Entertainment will return to me sooner or later."
Selena didn’t hide anything from Heath Hayes, who was a longtime friend of her mother and genuinely cared for her.
Heath Hayes didn’t press further and nodded. "Good, then I’ll help you register this script first to avoid someone else stealing a march on you."
Having been in the industry for many years, Heath Hayes naturally knew some of the shady aspects of this circle.
Selena nodded, as this was exactly what she wanted.
"Thank you, teacher."
After thanking Heath Hayes, Selena left the office.
Feeling a bit bored, Selena picked up her phone and saw a Weibo push notification.
[New music star Miranda Kensington releases another new song, "Autumn Wind"!]
Selena’s lips curved slightly. She took the bait so quickly.
Since her rebirth, Selena had moved out of the Kensington Family home but left a lot of ’good stuff’ behind.
The drafts she abandoned were, even as flawed products, lifesavers for Miranda Kensington.
After Selena moved out, she blocked Miranda and didn’t stay in her apartment for long during the holidays, leaving Miranda unable to contact her and fretting over her new song.
By chance, Miranda went to search Selena’s room and stumbled upon these valuable items.
Miranda naturally couldn’t tell that it was a trap set by Selena.
At that moment, Hugh Kensington’s call suddenly came in.
Selena answered the phone.
"Sis, how can that woman be so shameless to use your songs again!" Hugh said through gritted teeth.
"Don’t worry, that’s just my draft, nothing but a defective product."
Upon hearing Selena’s words, Hugh hung up the phone and went to listen to "Autumn Wind" again.
Sure enough, there were many imperfections. Ever since he was young, Hugh knew his sister could write lyrics and compose music.
A lot of his songs were often completed with Selena’s help.
