Chapter 2125: Chapter 2028: Almost Exposed
The mention of Gu Xu’s remark caused Ouyang Jun’s initially radiant smile to freeze abruptly, leaving him utterly baffled.
"Wait, we’re sailing for three to five days? That’s so exaggerated! What are we going to do in this dreadful place? What are we supposed to eat or drink? Who can endure going hungry and thirsty for three to five days? I’m not equipped with the endurance like you special forces folks. If we keep toughing it out like this, we’ll die of thirst before the ship even lands!"
Hit hard by Gu Xu’s words, Ouyang Jun realized he’s been celebrating too early, and his whole demeanor deflated instantly.
But in the next moment, he suddenly seemed to think of something. He stood up abruptly and quickly darted out, rummaging through the cabin.
Gu Xu, observing Ouyang Jun’s frantic and desperate demeanor, immediately found it odd: "What are you looking for?"
Ouyang Jun, searching through boxes and cabinets amid the cargo, lifted his head and shouted irritably: "Searching for what? What do you think I’m searching for? In this cabin, deprived of daylight for days, we’ve got to find food and drink somehow, or how are we supposed to survive?"
The cabin was quite full of cargo, but much to Ouyang Jun’s dismay, after a thorough search, including the corners, the entire hold consisted of machine parts and silk products, with nothing edible at all.
This frustration consumed Ouyang Jun, who slumped down onto the cabin floor, powerlessly gazing at the ceiling.
"What now, Xu Zi? We’ve just escaped the tiger’s den to enter the fire pit. No water, no food, we’re digging our own graves here. Keep toughing it out like this, and those drug dealers won’t even have a chance to find us; we’ll end up killing ourselves first!"
Ouyang Jun felt deep regret now; he initially assumed as long as they hid on the ship, they’d be safe. Who knew in all his calculations he’d miss this detail, leaving them in a dire situation now. Following that woman named Elisa would’ve been better; once they complete their task, they would surely find a way to leave Mexico and escape to freedom, likely already living comfortably by now.
The more he thought about it, the more Ouyang Jun felt depressed. He believed sitting idle was fruitless and couldn’t help but raise his head to suggest to Gu Xu:
"We can’t just sit here and wait for death, that’s not our style. How about, Xu Zi, we think of a way to break out, fight the crew and sailors, and take a hostage or something? The crew must have water and food. As long as we survive till we reach America, we can smoothly return home."
Hearing Ouyang Jun’s ridiculous idea, Gu Xu couldn’t help but laugh angrily: "Taking hostages, really? Do you think these Mexican crew members are fools? The moment you act, the crew room will report the situation to the port in Mexico. Then those thugs would surely come charging in speedboats to hunt us. Do you really think the three of us can escape their pursuit? Or is it you know how to steer a ship and you’re planning to sail it yourself back home?"
Gu Xu’s retort left Ouyang Jun speechless, unable to counter with anything credible. Embarrassed, he scratched the back of his head, glancing sheepishly towards Huo Sining.
Huo Sining couldn’t help but want to laugh too. Once she had her fill, she pulled out a backpack from behind and said, "Alright, stop teasing him. There are only three of us here, but I have some compressed biscuits and water; rationing them will sustain us for a few days."
As she said this, Huo Sining unzipped the backpack, revealing several bottles of mineral water and neatly packaged compressed biscuit packs.
Seeing the food and water, Ouyang Jun’s eyes immediately lit up. He couldn’t help but dart over to Gu Xu:
"You sly couple, you had the supplies ready all along and fooled me, making me worry for nothing. Xu Zi, you’re growing less and less decent!"
Gu Xu didn’t hold back with Ouyang Jun; with a swift move, he quickly subdued him, then effortlessly flipped him to the ground. He cast a faint sidelong look at Ouyang Jun and replied:
"You think I’m the problem? From the start, I never said there were no supplies; it was your own needless worrying."
Ouyang Jun’s face flushed but, unable to come up with any effective rebuttal, he could only shoot Gu Xu a resentful glare.
After bantering with Gu Xu for a while, aware they would need to endure several days in the cabin, Ouyang Jun gradually quieted down, closing his eyes and resting in a corner to conserve energy.
However, after resting a while, something suddenly crossed Ouyang Jun’s mind. He abruptly opened his eyes, looked at Huo Sining’s backpack and then at Huo Sining herself, asking suspiciously and oddly:
"Wait a minute, sister-in-law, didn’t you board without a backpack?"
Huo Sining’s expression instantly froze at Ouyang Jun’s question, her heart skipping a beat.
Just as she was about to explain, Gu Xu quickly interjected: "Back then, you were too focused on running to notice much. She was wearing a loose jacket that hid the backpack underneath, covered by a wig, so you didn’t spot it."
Ouyang Jun was stunned, trying to recall but unable to remember the boarding scenario clearly. He was too tense at the time, fearing exposure and focusing on himself rather than being aware of Huo Sining.
However, Huo Sining’s jacket was indeed very loose, making it easy to hide a backpack within it. So after hearing Gu Xu’s explanation, though finding it odd, Ouyang Jun didn’t dwell on it further, feeling somewhat sheepish as he looked at Huo Sining:
"Oh, that’s how it is. Sister-in-law, you really have to forgive me; I’m usually careless, and these few days have left me scared and stupid, not remembering to stock up on water and food before boarding. Luckily you’re meticulous; otherwise, we’d really be doomed."
Seeing Ouyang Jun not pressing the issue further, Huo Sining breathed a sigh of relief, instinctively glancing at Gu Xu, who blinked playfully at her and smirked, causing her to wipe away imaginary sweat from her forehead.
Fortunately, Ouyang Jun was simple-minded; if pressed by someone inquisitive, the truth might’ve been exposed.
After all, even when boarding, the situation hadn’t occurred to them; it was only upon entering the cabin that they considered the uncertainty of their ship’s duration.
Afraid Ouyang Jun would speculate about the food source, Huo Sining had preemptively pulled out a backpack from the storage ring and filled it with some water and compressed biscuits.
