Chapter 2112: Chapter 2015: Memory Card
After entering the room, the two of them finally let out a sigh of relief.
They locked the door from the inside and searched the room thoroughly. After confirming there were no surveillance devices or bugs, Gu Xu motioned for Huo Sining to take out Ouyang Jun’s phone.
The phone screen was already shattered, but it could still be powered on.
However, once it was turned on, they immediately ran into a major problem.
Neither of them knew the unlock password for Ouyang Jun’s phone.
They tried Ouyang Jun’s birthday, but it didn’t work. Gu Xu couldn’t help frowning.
On the other side, Huo Sining reacted faster and directly called Song Chaojing’s phone: "When is your Sixth Sister’s birthday?"
Suddenly receiving a call from Huo Sining, Song Chaojing hadn’t reacted yet and answered subconsciously, "June twentieth, why are you asking?"
"Got it." Huo Sining didn’t give Song Chaojing any explanation at all and hung up immediately.
"0620, try that again."
Huo Sining said to Gu Xu.
He tried that number, but still couldn’t unlock the phone, and now both of them were out of ideas.
Gu Xu’s brows knit tightly. Could it be that all his earlier guesses were wrong, that what those Mexicans were after wasn’t this phone but them? But then why were those people hiding inside the Tepito Marketplace watching that dead-end alley? And how did they know someone else would go there?
Thinking as he moved, Gu Xu absentmindedly pried off the back cover of Ouyang Jun’s phone, and with that, he unexpectedly discovered a huge problem.
From the inside of the phone’s back cover, a very thin memory card slipped out. The card was no bigger than a fingernail, forcibly hidden inside the cover, yet the back cover could still fit seamlessly onto the phone without leaving the slightest trace.
At first, Gu Xu thought the memory card came with Ouyang Jun’s phone, but when he pressed the slot for the internal card, he was shocked to find that there was already a memory card inside the phone.
This card that had fallen out wasn’t part of Ouyang Jun’s phone!
Gu Xu and Huo Sining’s eyes lit up at the same time. They looked at each other, their excitement and agitation almost impossible to suppress.
This card must be closely related to Ouyang Jun being hunted by those traffickers, and to them being tailed just now in Tepito.
With that thought, almost without thinking, Huo Sining pulled her laptop out of the storage ring and rummaged in a corner for a memory card reader.
She turned on the computer, plugged the reader with the card into it, and the data was quickly being read.
Soon, a folder encrypted with a strange algorithm appeared before their eyes. Huo Sining clicked it open, but to her frustration, without the password it couldn’t be accessed. In other words, even with this memory card in hand, it was still of no use.
"We can’t open it, but we can still copy and send it, right? Send this file to Yu Fei and let him figure something out."
Gu Xu directly sent the file to Yu Fei’s email.
After all that work, it turned out to be for nothing. They still had no idea where Ouyang Jun’s people were. This left both of them a little discouraged.
"Wife, let’s rest first. Tomorrow we’ll go probe around that Tepito Marketplace again."
Considering that Huo Sining was pregnant, Gu Xu didn’t dare to push himself like before. If it had been the old him, he would have thought that the middle of the night was the best and most convenient time to scout the enemy, and he could easily make a solo trip to the Tepito Marketplace.
However, if he went, he would have to leave Huo Sining alone in this motel. After thinking it over, Gu Xu felt it was far too unsafe to leave his wife alone in a strange country and a strange city—especially when outside, there was a group of Mexican gangsters scouring the streets for them. There was no way he could feel at ease abandoning his wife here.
So after weighing it up, he decided they would stay at the motel for the night and talk about it tomorrow.
Huo Sining originally wanted to refuse, but seeing how insistent Gu Xu was, she couldn’t keep pushing and could only lie down obediently to rest.
They took some food from the Storage Space to fill their stomachs a bit, and then lay down. But because of what had happened earlier in Tepito, they knew the situation was still unclear, so neither of them dared sleep undressed. They lay on the bed fully clothed.
In the middle of their sleep, late at night, Gu Xu suddenly heard some noise from downstairs. Startled, he woke up instantly.
Huo Sining had heard it too. They exchanged a look and quickly realized what was happening, sitting up fast from the bed.
In the darkness, with a loud "bang," the motel room door was kicked open, and a group of burly men in black surged in from the corridor. Their eyes flashed coldly as they swept the room, each of them gripping a gun fitted with a silencer.
But after bursting through the door, they found themselves empty-handed again. There was no one in the room, not even a shadow.
Seeing this, the faces of the men in black shifted instantly, especially the leader. After taking in the situation in the room, he snapped his head around and barked something harshly.
His speech was fast and in Mexican Spanish. No sooner had he finished than the plump middle-aged woman they had dragged upstairs with them—the motel’s Huaxia landlady—went pale as paper. Terror filled her eyes, and her whole body began to shake.
The woman babbled something while gesturing wildly, meaning that she didn’t know where the two people in the room had gone. She had been downstairs the whole time and hadn’t seen them come down from upstairs.
Hearing her explanation, the leader quickly signaled to the men in black behind him.
They immediately understood, thinking that Huo Sining and Gu Xu had been alerted by the commotion and had hidden in advance. The men in black fanned out and began searching the motel upstairs and downstairs at high speed.
To their surprise, even after they turned the entire motel upside down and checked every suspicious corner, they still couldn’t find a trace of their two targets.
"Damn it! They must have escaped!" The leader’s face darkened, his fist clenched in fury, and he swung around to slap the Huaxia middle-aged landlady across the face.
