Chapter 2070: Chapter 1973: Call Me Master

The wailing inside suddenly stopped.

Everyone was taken aback, and many felt that oppressive feeling in their chests abruptly disappear, making them feel relaxed all over.

The sinister wind inside the barrier had also vanished, fruit peels and scraps were no longer flying everywhere, and sticks and stones had fallen to the ground. The street had returned to its previous calm.

However, those who were sensitive could already sense that the eerie aura on the street was gone.

"The temperature has risen, it was 11 degrees before, and now it’s gone up by three degrees,"

Ji Kun took out a thermometer, comparing it to previous data as he spoke.

Huo Sining’s eyes brightened instantly; she knew that Mr. Bai had successfully broken the formation.

Sure enough, Bai Buzhi’s voice soon came from inside: "Huo girl, let everyone come in!"

"Alright!" Huo Sining said loudly.

The SWAT team opened the barrier’s entrance, and a group of people surged in. Mr. and Mrs. Dong Chengli rushed inside first.

Dong Jing stood in place, looking bewildered and innocent, while Liu Xiuping worriedly embraced her child.

"Jing, are you alright?"

After grabbing Dong Jing, Liu Xiuping searched him thoroughly to confirm he wasn’t hurt and finally relaxed.

Dong Jing shook his head and smiled brightly: "Grandpa played magic with me; all sorts of things were flying around me in the sky. It was so fun!"

Liu Xiuping was momentarily stunned, then subconsciously glanced at Bai Buzhi standing aside, giving a slightly awkward smile.

Bai Buzhi, due to the exertion of breaking the formation, appeared pale with sweat dripping from his forehead, visibly fatigued. Yet, to keep his earlier promise, he stood up against a stone slab and forced a smile:

"Xiao Liu, is the child alright?"

Liu Xiuping shook her head, a bit embarrassed: "No, no problem."

Bai Buzhi nodded: "No problem, that’s good. I told you I would return the child to you intact, and I did that."

Liu Xiuping’s face turned red with shame, and she said apologetically: "Elder Bai, I’m so sorry. I was just worried about the child; I didn’t mean..."

Bai Buzhi wasn’t planning to argue, waving his hand dismissively:

"It’s over now; the child is with you. As I promised, I’ll be preparing to return to the capital in a few days. If you still trust this old man, you two should quickly handle your matters and then come with me." 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

Liu Xiuping, who had harbored some distrust toward Bai Buzhi, realized she had been overly suspicious.

"Sir, rest assured, take your time to rest these few days. We’ll settle our affairs quickly and contact you,"

Dong Chengli nodded solemnly.

Bai Buzhi smiled faintly but turned his gaze to Dong Jing beside him: "If you feel comfortable and trust me, why not let Dong Jing stay with me for the next few days?"

Liu Xiuping hesitated a bit, lowering her head to look at her child.

Dong Chengli reacted quickly, eagerly nodding: "Sure, let the child stay with you first. After all, he’ll be living with you eventually; these few days will be a good chance to get acquainted."

After the recent events, Liu Xiuping was less resistant to Bai Buzhi. Though she felt some concern and reluctance about Bai Buzhi’s suggestion to have Dong Jing stay with him, she wasn’t outright opposed to it.

She understood her husband was right—since they agreed to have Bai Buzhi mentor their child, they’d be spending plenty of time with him in the future.

Moreover, although Bai Buzhi had an aloof personality, he had truly treated them well.

Having considered these things, Liu Xiuping nodded in agreement, though she wanted to seek her child’s opinion.

"Jing, Grandpa Bai wants you to stay with him at the hotel for a few days. Are you willing?"

Dong Jing, still young, found the "magic" Bai Buzhi showed him fascinating. Being quite playful, he immediately agreed upon hearing he could stay with Grandpa Bai:

"I’m willing; I like this grandpa and want to see his magic performances again."

Seeing her child unfazed by leaving home and expressing no longing for his parents, Liu Xiuping felt a bit sad and resentful, lamenting that a single magic trick had captured her child’s heart.

But Liu Xiuping, having gained clarity, did not dwell further. Realizing Dong Jing agreed to go with Bai Buzhi, she did not hesitate, handing the child over.

Bai Buzhi was quite surprised by Dong Jing’s reaction. The formation-breaking scene had been enough to scare anyone. A typical child would have either fainted or cried frantically, but this kid seemed unaffected, and instead, was curious about the scene, evidently wanting Bai Buzhi to "perform" for him again!

"Little guy, weren’t you scared?" Bai Buzhi asked curiously.

Dong Jing looked puzzled: "Scared? Scared of what?"

Bai Buzhi laughed: "Those sticks and stones were flying in the air; if they fell and hit you, it would really hurt."

Dong Jing shook his head, somewhat perplexed yet feeling it was only natural: "But, Grandpa, you set up a glass cover for me. I hid inside, so how could those stones and sticks hit me?"

Bai Buzhi was stunned, then realized and exclaimed with delight: "You could see the barrier I set up?"

"Barrier? What’s that?" The little guy tilted his head, confused, but quickly asked, "Grandpa, the magic just now was so fun; can you perform for me again?"

Faced with Dong Jing’s eager eyes, Bai Buzhi found himself amused.

He realized this little fellow had a talent for learning Taoist Arts; ordinary people couldn’t see the barrier he set up, yet this boy discerned it immediately. No wonder he wasn’t scared despite the chaos around him; he knew he was being protected.

"Little fellow, you want to see a performance again?" Bai Buzhi raised his brows and asked.

Dong Jing nodded earnestly: "I do."

Bai Buzhi nodded, revealing a slightly alluring expression to the child: "Then you mustn’t call me Grandpa anymore; you need to change how you address me."

Dong Jing immediately asked curiously: "What should I call you?"

Bai Buzhi’s lips curled slightly: "Call me Master!"
