Chapter 1318: Pinned and Powerless ( 1318 )
After a while, a series of shouting and cursing erupted from both carriages. Inside, everyone was pressed flat against the carriage floor, their bodies pinned down by the oppressive weight of the heavy gravity zone. Limbs trembled, faces were twisted in strain, and labored breaths came in short, harsh gasps.
Meanwhile, the coachmen sat casually, their postures relaxed, as if the gravity was nothing more than a gentle breeze. The pekko pulling the carriages trotted along without any visible effort, their usual smug stride unchanged.
Javier smirked, riding atop Buddy, who was striding forward with the same effortless grace. The massive bird turned his head, his beak pointed toward the carriages before he squawked with amusement.
"Cuquawked!"
"Yes, Buddy. You’re right. These bastards are just weaklings." Javier spoke in a low voice, his tone dripping with contempt. "All they have is arrogance and their so-called divine blessings and weapons. But just by looking at them, I can tell their weapons aren’t like Kenjirou’s or the others. Makes me think I wasted my time planning all this."
He let out a soft, irritated sigh.
"Man~ what a waste of time. All that precaution, all that planning... I never needed any of it. I could have just captured these bastards myself or fired a single mana missile from the Sky Eyes and been done with it."
"Cuquawked!"
Javier narrowed his eyes at Buddy, who was now smirking with his beak.
"Yeah, yeah. I know. Next time, I’ll just let Father plan everything." Javier chuckled softly, shaking his head. "I’m not a good planner compared to him. But hey~ it’s not like my plan had any flaws, right? Besides, Father approved it, so that means my plan was solid enough."
"Cuquawked!"
"Ah, right... now because of this plan and these bastards, I have to face another ’punishment’ from a certain fierce elf soon."
"Cuquawked!" Buddy gave Javier a teasing look, his beak curving into a knowing grin.
"No, no~" Javier wiggled his finger. "I’m sure she won’t punch me in the face this time."
"Cuquawked~"
"Ah..." Javier swallowed hard. "Right... she did punch me countless times back when I was eleven and before. But hey~" He glanced at Buddy, a confident smirk spreading across his face. "We’re already partners, and I’m going to make it official soon, you know. And she loves this handsome guy~" He ran a hand through his hair with a dramatic, ikemen-like flourish.
"Cuquawked!" Buddy lets out a loud, mocking squawk, shaking his head.
Javier sighs, rolling his eyes. "Yeah, yeah. Laugh it up."
They both turned their heads when they heard a muffled shout from inside the carriages. Javier and Buddy glanced at each other before smirking.
"Hey, hey~ Talk properly, idiot. We can’t hear you, and this monster bird can’t understand you."
Buddy squawked in agreement, his beak curving into a mocking grin.
Another shout came, but it was slurred and distorted under the heavy gravity, sounding more like a strained groan than actual words.
"Uwaa~" Javier glanced at Buddy, his expression one of genuine disbelief. "I can’t believe these bastards are this weak."
The other two coachmen just shook their heads in amusement.
"Seriously! This is my first time seeing something like this. I still remember back at the first noble party when I was still a child, back when Father was just a noble and Armand was just a region under the human kingdom. When I first used my gravity skill, at least all the nobles who attended could still shout properly."
Javier exhaled in disbelief, shaking his head.
Another strained shout was heard, but it was even more garbled this time.
"Err... Buddy?"
"Cuquawked?"
"Do you understand what they were trying to say?"
"Cuquawked." Buddy shrugged his massive wings, tilting his head in a gesture of ignorance, his expression clearly saying, "Not a clue."
Javier turned back with a mocking grin, raising his voice. "Yo. My pekko doesn’t understand what you’re saying. You might want to try speaking a little clearer~"
Another strained, heavy-pressed groan came from both carriages as Jaigar and Gorak struggled to force out words through the crushing gravity.
Javier shook his head in amusement.
"Did you hear that, Buddy? They’re still trying to threaten me." He glanced at the two coachmen, who smirked in response. "Are they dumb? They clearly don’t understand the situation they’re in. They’re pinned down by gravity, barely able to move, and they still have the guts to mutter death threats?"
He let out a low chuckle, his eyes gleaming with cold amusement.
"Woo~ This is my first time meeting real dumbasses like this. I seriously can’t believe they still have the nerve to say those words when they’re clearly at a disadvantage."
He stretched his arms lazily, a predatory grin spreading across his face.
"Man. I could kill them right here, right now. Slit their throats without them ever being able to lift a finger to defend themselves. They wouldn’t even see it coming."
Javier glanced forward and saw the end of the heavy gravity area in the distance, a faint shimmer in the air marking the transition back to normal terrain. A slow, calculating smirk spread across his face as he mumbled in a low voice toward Buddy.
"Well... since this gravity zone is about to end... how about we see if they’re actually strong? I’m already bored with this mission. Wasting my time planning all this, hurting my ears with their constant complaining and arrogance... let’s have a little fun."
"Cuquawked~" Buddy let out an eager squawk, his eyes gleaming with anticipation.
"Ahhhh~ Father is going to be mad at me soon. Not just Liana... but hey, it’ll be worth it."
Javier stretched his arms, rolling his shoulders as the coachmen also began stretching their limbs, preparing themselves. He glanced at both of them, his smirk sharpening.
"Don’t let anyone slip past. Try not to kill if you can, but feel free to use your full power if needed."
Both coachmen nodded, their expressions shifting from casual to focused.
"As you command, Your Highness."
