Chapter 1712: Chapter 1714: Just Deserts
When Xiaoxiao returned home, she found Yang Dong and told him about Li Chuntao’s current situation and her reactions.
"Fourth brother, you need to be mentally prepared."
Yang Dong understood clearly what his third sister-in-law meant. She was suggesting that Li Chuntao no longer remembered him, and she probably wouldn’t agree to marry him, or even acknowledge their past moments together.
In truth, when he thought about it, they really didn’t have much of a shared history.
"Third sister-in-law, I know, it’s okay if she doesn’t remember me, we can get to know each other all over again."
These words surprised Xiaoxiao and also made her feel that Yang Dong might have grown up a lot because of this incident. "It’s good that you can think this way. A person suddenly losing their memory is actually very scary and helpless. Suddenly taking in so many things, anyone might find it a little hard to accept, so you have to give her time, and she still has injuries right now that need to be healed properly."
Yang Dong knew what to do now. This was indeed not the time for him to pursue relentlessly. He decided to wait until Li Chuntao’s health was restored. "Third sister-in-law, I understand."
Li Chuntao thus started living at the academy.
While resting and recovering, she gained a deeper understanding of the academy and met the teachers and students there.
With the company of the children, she felt much better emotionally.
Sometimes she would play the piano for the children, as if returning to the days when she taught kids at the academy before.
Seeing Li Chuntao like this, the Li Family was very relieved.
Her third brother even helped his sister. Sometimes he would join in teaching as well, since he wasn’t bad at it.
During this time, Yang Dong continued working on house construction on the mountain. Occasionally, he would visit outside the academy just to check on Li Chuntao, and the Li Family didn’t stop him, letting him do so.
Time flew by, and even Yang Xiaocui and Yang Daniu had gotten married.
The Yang Family members didn’t attend their wedding. On the surface, Yang Daniu had snatched Yang Dong’s fiancée.
But in reality, Yang Daniu and Yang Xiaocui were the ones who harmed Li Chuntao badly—an unforgivable feud.
They couldn’t attend, but since the two families had previous ceremonial relations, even if the Yang Family held their wedding, Yang Daniu’s family would come. Now the wedding gifts had to be returned, so someone was sent to deliver the gifts, resolving the gift exchange between the two families, settling the debts.
The marriage of Yang Daniu and Yang Xiaocui became a major topic in Yang Family Village.
"Hey, I’m telling you, on the night Yang Daniu married Yang Xiaocui, Yang Xiaocui seemed to have been beaten up. My house is right next door, and I heard the yard wailing like ghosts; indeed, Yang Xiaocui’s face was all bruised, and she was limping the next morning."
"I saw it too. I passed by their gate yesterday and heard the sounds of crying from the yard, saying Yang Daniu made Yang Xiaocui work, and she got beaten up for not doing it well."
"Oh my, if we’re talking about it, Yang Daniu used to hang around the town every other day before. Now that he’s married, he stopped wandering and stays home to either beat or scold Yang Xiaocui every day."
"I’d say, Yang Xiaocui deserved it, pretending to faint. If she hadn’t done that, any family she’d find would surely be better than Yang Daniu. Also, her mother wouldn’t have been driven to death from anger."
"..."
"..."
Yang Dong heard the villagers’ discussions. Sometimes, he wondered if he was too cruel for deliberately spreading words in front of Yang Daniu’s family to pair Yang Daniu and Yang Xiaocui together.
But when he thought about how Li Chuntao lost her memory because of them, he felt they deserved it, though Yang Daniu shouldn’t be living as carefree as he is now.
