Chapter 427: A new workshop
HUM!
A subtle humming sound filled the silence as an elevator descended deep beneath the most affluent district of Iron Reef.
Far above, millions of lights illuminated the endless urban sprawl as people of different races went about their day.
But down here, none of that mattered.
Leon made a call to Ren Nora yesterday and having been working on it for some time already, the General told him that his new workshop was ready and it was situated right under the mansion of the General.
The reinforced cargo elevator was silent except for the hum as it carried Leon into the depths of the earth.
After a few minutes, it stopped and finally, the doors slid open.
Leon walked through a short corridor to a large reinforced iron door. His face was scanned, and with a loud CLANG, the massive door opened, revealing the interior of his new workshop.
Immediately, a faint smile appeared on Leon’s face.
He loved what he saw.
At first glance, the workshop looked less like a Mechanist’s workshop and more like a military manufacturing plant.
There were rows upon rows of dormant machinery stretching everywhere within the grand hall. Massive support pillars rose from the floor like steel giants, supporting a ceiling that was nearly 50 meters overhead.
Thick power conduits as wide as tree trunks ran along the walls, disappearing into hidden generators that were buried beneath layers of reinforced concrete.
Fabrication units sat silently in their designated stations, while industrial robotic arms hung motionless from ceiling rails.
Massive assembly platforms occupied the center of the facility.
There were massive cargo lifts and maintenance drones, including multiple welding stations, each equipped with plasma cutters and heavy-duty nanoforges for Leon’s robotic army to help.
They all waited in silence.
This was a true Mechanist’s cave and beyond that, it was a heavily fortified underground bunker that was almost impervious to assault.
Besides, who would dare attack a workshop that was constructed directly beneath Ren Nora’s mansion?
Even if anyone dared, the General could teleport there immediately and if he couldn’t for some reason like what happened 4 months ago, there was a secret hole that was cut underneath the General’s mansion that led directly to the workshop.
General Ren Nora didn’t just provide a state of the art mechanic workshop, he also provided S-tier security with it.
For a few seconds, Leon just stood as his deep black eyes scanned the facility.
Then he activated the master terminal and instantly, a low mechanical hum echoed throughout the building.
A second passed, two, three, then...
BOOM!
The heavy-duty generators awakened.
The entire workshop shook as power surged through advanced conduits. Rows of ceiling lights ignited one after another, stretching into the distant corners of the workshop that were not illuminated previously like a chain reaction of artificial suns.
Leon finally saw the workshop in its full entirety, including the parts that he couldn’t see before.
A giant holographic interface unfolded before him as thousands of diagnostic windows shimmered in the air:
[Power Grid]
[Structural Integrity]
[Manufacturing Capacity]
[Resource Inventory]
[Available Fabrication Units]
Everything was already in place before he arrived here.
Ren Nora took care of all the expenses, spending almost 100 million Neo Credits to provide all the materials that Leon needed to construct all the blueprints that he had in mind for this long session.
Well, this was everything that Leon ever asked for: a General who supported him, providing everything he needed for him.
The only dislike was the fact that he was going up against an even more terrifying General in Epsilon and the Omnicore Federation.
’Well, at least I have a backer’.
These thoughts didn’t linger in Leon’s head though as his gaze hardened, every single project that he envisioned flashing through his head like a reel.
Every single project, every single weapon that he needed to survive the gauntlet of the Abyssal Scar and the incoming civil war, all of them would be born here.
Leon rolled his sleeves up, then his ADE flared.
Miniaturization!
BZZZZ!
His ADE rolled over a legion of crates that were by the side of the workshop and instantly, all the basic robots that were inside climbed out.
Leon looked around one last time, exhaled, then he started. Within just a few minutes, the workshop transformed as the silence disappeared.
Under Leon’s command, the first fabrication units activated, mechanical arms descending from overhead rails even as industrial printers roared to life.
Conveyor belts began moving, the facility churning like a living organism under the control of the Mechanist in charge.
Working without the ChronoSystem was still debilitating a bit, but after all the things that he experienced and survived in his Trials, Leon was extremely adaptable now.
In response to his input, thousands of holographic schematics floated around him- breakdown of the blueprints as the assembly machines worked with the data.
Measurements updated in real time, and simulation results flashed every few minutes as Davis processed millions of calculations, making adjustments on the fly with ruthless efficiency.
Every design part was optimized before being worked on, every component was perfect before being pushed to production.
There was no wasted resources nor time as Leon locked in.
Construction!
Nanofabrication!
Hours passed, then days, then weeks.
...
More than 3 weeks later...
28th February, Year 714 A.G.
SHHHHSH!
The massive double-doors of the large mechanic workshop finally opened for the first time in a long time.
Inside stood a version of Leon with tan skin that was darker than 3 weeks ago, his face clearly stressed with eye bags under his eyes.
Despite the stress, his black eyes were shining.
Around him, there was an army of almost 100 Doom Rover v0.1 and Doom Rover v0.2s! Towering above them at the center stood the new Bulwark MK.II Titan Frame, looking as massive and imposing as usual.
The new Sentry-IV Autocannon Drone stood behind the army of mechanical soldiers. All of them were at the Eastern end of the massive workshop.
Leon finally looked towards the North and Western ends, and he saw the true result of his effort and sleepless nights for the past 3 weeks.
