Chapter 158: Chapter 158 - Battle Between Enemies ( Part 4 )
The valley was on fire once again.
Red-colored magic circle formed by Draven spread across the sky in the shape of an open wound, covering Rosario Village with a threatening bloody glow. Demon Legion rushed forward, thousands of twisted bodies, hooves, claws, clattering armor, a wave of darkness that sought to submerge its opponents in its suffocating mass.
But there was Jennie who stood alone in front of them.
Excalibur shone brightly in her right hand like captured light of the dawn.
Leviathan shone in her left – like endless blue sea, curled around the blade.
And Tempest hovered beside her, sparkling silver-blue rays of its light playing with the wind.
Silver hair of Jennie waved slightly when she took a deep breath.
Behind her there were villagers – the same villagers that Luka died to protect.
No retreat.
No hesitation.
She stepped forward.
Ground cracked under her feet.
Draven raised his spear up high.
"Kill her!"
Demon Legion charged – a black tidal wave of fangs and rage.
Jennie vanished.
Thunder struck across the valley.
First ranks of demons didn’t even see how fast she had moved.
Golden light flared up in the air – crescent-shaped blade of divine radiance – and several monsters who tried to reach her didn’t even realize what happened with them.
Jennie reappeared dozens of meters further.
Another flash of light – and another wave was down.
Her speed was so high that afterimages appeared in the air like ghosts. For villagers watching Jennie from behind their barricades, it looked like there were hundreds of Jennies fighting at the same time, like some silver-haired goddess of war dancing between the rows of the monsters.
Voice of Excalibur sounded in her head.
"Your heart is still solid."
Jennie answered silently.
"I won’t let another friend die."
Leviathan flooded battlefield with the streams of water, extinguishing cursed fires, saving the wounded villagers, creating whirls of current that shattered the ranks of demons.
Tempest laughed happily.
"Leave the wind to me!"
Whirlwinds erupted all around.
Hundreds of demons were hurled into the air, spinning and falling somewhere far away from the walls of Rosario. Siege towers fell down. Ranks dispersed.
Three Divine Swords worked as one.
King.
Ocean.
Storm.
Three legends, fighting as one blade.
Voice of Tempest changed.
Cheerful tone of the sword carried an unexpected weight.
"Luka..."
Grip of Jennie grew tighter.
"He protected everyone," Tempest continued. "Everyone from that village. He stood alone so they wouldn’t have to." Pause. "Now..."
Blade was burning with bright light.
"I’ll protect what he loved."
A hurricane blasted from the edge of Tempest.
Storm swept across the battlefield – a whirlwind of silver color that shattered the siege weapons of demons, scattering the charging ranks, cutting the rows of enemies. It wasn’t just a rage. Each whirl of the wind was exact and purposeful – guided by Tempest itself.
Choice of the Divine Sword was made.
Not the revenge born out of hate.
But vengeance born out of love.
And it will honor the sacrifice of Luka, protecting Rosario until its last breath of wind.
Voice of Excalibur sounded warmly.
"Welcome, brother."
Then the calm tones of Leviathan.
"May our swords protect this world together."
And cheerful laugh of Tempest resounded again.
"It’s nice to finally meet you both."
Three Divine Swords vibrated.
Their lights were mixing into the pillar of radiance that was shining for miles all around the scarred valley – the beacon of hope against approaching darkness.
Somewhere else on the battlefield—
Snow moved through the ranks of demons like the avalanche of frost.
His huge body was crushing the ranks of the enemies, each blow of his claws was throwing demons in different directions. His icy breath was freezing the monsters where they stood – demons were frozen mid-rush, their faces frozen in the expressions of fear. Creatures with wings, who were trying to attack from above, found themselves frozen in the air, falling to the ground like shattered ice.
Divine Beast laughed loudly.
"You chose the wrong village!"
Above him there was Roxy who was floating among the constellation of ancient magic circles.
Fierce determination burned in her eyes.
"I won’t lose another home!"
She slammed her staff to the ground.
"Ancient Grand Magic..."
"Heaven’s Judgment!"
Thousands of lances of magical light descended from the clouds – each lance was shining with the pure magical radiance and each of them was striking with incredible accuracy. They pierced the siege machines of demons, breaking the command posts, crushing the concentrated masses of enemies – but not touching a single villager.
Explosions were heard across the valley.
Western sky was lit up by the endless azure flashes.
Snow looked at the sky, laughing.
"Not bad, little mage!"
Roxy grinned fiercely.
"I learned from the best."
Together Divine Beast and young Archmage were fighting in perfect harmony – the wall of ice and magic that the Demon Legion couldn’t breach.
While—
Jennie was already standing face to face with Draven.
Demon General smiled and his crimson eyes glowed.
"So you finally came."
Their weapons met.
Impact of their fight split the clouds above.
Draven used the endless stream of strikes with his spear – each of them was powerful enough to shatter the mountains, each of them contained the millennia of power of the demons.
Jennie answered with perfect swordsmanship.
Excalibur parried.
Leviathan deflected.
Tempest cut from the impossible angles.
Draven found himself retreating step by step.
His smile was fading away.
"Impossible..."
"You became much stronger in this battle."
Jennie was silent.
Each battle brought her new knowledge.
Each companion strengthened her.
Each loss gave her more resolve.
Draven roared and poured all his demonic strength in his spear. Black lightning crackled around him, hungry and alive. With the incredible strength he rushed forward, making a strike that should end the fight in one shot.
Jennie calmed herself.
She remembered Luka’s last smile.
She remembered Deressa.
She remembered Rosario.
Three Divine Swords shone at the same time.
One perfect step.
One perfect strike.
"KingHeart Sword Style..."
"Third Form..."
"Threefold Horizon."
Golden light.
Blue water.
Silver wind.
Three forces united into one magnificent blow of the sword – arc of transcendent radiance that cut through the fabric of the space itself.
Eyes of Draven widened.
He tried to block the blow.
Too late.
SHING!
Crimson spray appeared in the battlefield.
Something big was thrown to the ground.
Draven stumbled backwards.
Right hand of Draven—
Still holding his spear—
Lay severed on the ground.
Silence fell across the battlefield.
Demon Legion stopped moving.
Invincible commander of the Demon Legion lost one arm.
Draven stared at the place where his hand should be.
During several long moments...
He was silent.
Then—
He laughed.
Strange low sound that resounded across the silent valley.
"So..."
"You are worthy."
Dark energy swirled around the wound, slowing the bleeding, stopping the blood – but it couldn’t bring his arm back. Demonic power couldn’t restore what had been severed by divine steel.
He looked at Jennie with respect.
"The next time we meet..."
"I’ll kill you."
Jennie pointed Excalibur at him.
"You can try."
He raised the other hand.
There was a gigantic dark portal right behind him—a gate into hell; the edges of it were wriggling with darkness.
He gazed upon his commanders.
"Fall back."
Some of the demons seemed unsure.
"But why?"
"Aren’t we going to fight?"
Draven’s face hardened.
"This battle is over."
He turned his eyes toward the faraway western horizon—the lands that lay beyond it.
"The war..."
"...is just about to start."
The remaining demons retreated one by one into the portal. They did so in order; there was discipline in their movements—they were not fleeing, but falling back in order to conserve energy.
Before disappearing in the portal, he delivered the last order from him that rang like a tolling bell throughout the entire valley.
"All legions—advance!"
"Burn all the western kingdoms!"
"Leave nothing behind!"
This order swept across the Demon Continent like a wildfire.
Countless hidden strongholds woke up.
Ancient doors creaked open.
Millions of demons started moving.
The Great Demon War had begun.
The battlefield became silent at last.
Rosario had survived the attack.
But it had been done at an enormous price.
Jennie turned toward the western horizon.
Beyond the mountain range, black smoke could already be seen rising—dozens of columns, hundreds, covering the sky as a pyre for an entire continent.
They weren’t targeting any specific village anymore.
Now they were invading everything.
Snow appeared next to her—his huge form settled into the ground.
"This is only the beginning."
Roxy nodded, looking at the smoking horizon. Her staff glowed with the residual powers she used earlier.
"We should warn the kingdoms. We must warn all of them!"
Jennie looked down at the three Divine Swords.
Excalibur glowed with hope—it gave her promise that the dawn would follow every night.
Leviathan was filled with resolve—an ocean that would never submit.
The wind of Tempest spoke the last promise from Luka—the promise that was whispered on the breeze, reaching the ends of the world.
Slowly, she sheathed all three of them.
The rays of the setting sun highlighted their hilts—gold, blue, and silver, all united by the will of the past heroes.
Ahead there were endless battlefields.
Endless lives to protect.
And an endless enemy advancing toward the west mercilessly.
Looking ahead at the horizon, where dark clouds were gathering, Jennie stood atop the walls of Rosario.
Behind her, her friends stood.
At her sides there were the three Divine Swords, glowing together like an answer to the will of every fallen hero.
The next battlefield awaited.
