Gu Ningyue dried her hair and stepped out of the bathroom just as Ling Tianyou turned off the main light in the bedroom. Only the small bedside lamp illuminated the room.
"Are you going to sleep?" Gu Ningyue asked Ling Tianyou.
Ling Tianyou nodded, "I’m a bit tired."
Gu Ningyue responded, "Then you go ahead and sleep! I need to apply the ointment first, or by the time the actual wedding comes around, the scars on my body will be the main attraction."
Besides the wedding dress she’d already chosen, Gu Ningyue needed two additional outfits for greeting the guests.
A wedding happens just once in a lifetime, and Gu Ningyue didn’t want her body full of scars to ruin this rare moment of happiness.
Hearing this, Ling Tianyou said to Gu Ningyue, "Let me apply the ointment for you."
Gu Ningyue turned away from the vanity, "You?"
Ling Tianyou nodded, "What? Are you afraid I won’t do it right?"
Gu Ningyue laughed, "No, I’m just worried you’d be disgusted..."
Those scars covering her back had caused quite an uproar at her twenty-third birthday party. Even the photos taken by media outlets were quite shocking, not to mention how Ling Tianyou must feel touching them now.
For some reason, Gu Ningyue suddenly felt a bit inferior.
It’s not because of the scars, but the original owner’s inherent inferiority that had remained in her body.

Gu Ningyue glanced at the ointment Shangguan Wuyue had given, hesitated for two seconds, then sat down in front of Ling Tianyou, "Just apply it to the scars, right? Did Shangguan Wuyue tell you anything?"
Ever since she got the ointment back, she hadn’t asked about it.
Ling Tianyou looked at Gu Ningyue, "Shangguan Wuyue said applying this ointment twice could eliminate the scars on your body."
Gu Ningyue’s eyes lit up, "Twice? How often?"
Ling Tianyou looked at Gu Ningyue, "Once every three days."
Gu Ningyue nodded, turned her back to Ling Tianyou, removed her top, and lay down on the bed, "Let’s start!"
Even though there was only one lamp by the bed, it was enough for Ling Tianyou to see the scars on Gu Ningyue’s back clearly.
He never imagined the Gu Family could be this ruthless, even if he knew the person who suffered before wasn’t the current Gu Ningyue. But as Ling Tianyou thought about those scars on her body, he couldn’t help but feel heartache.
"Are you going?" Gu Ningyue turned her head on the bed, looking at Ling Tianyou, "What’s wrong?"
Ling Tianyou shook his head, "Nothing, just didn’t think they’d be so merciless!"
Gu Ningyue smiled faintly, "The old Gu Ningyue getting beaten was common. Do you see the dark scar behind? That’s from long ago when a burning tongs accidentally poked through."
A cold sensation followed on her spine, as Ling Tianyou applied the ointment onto the scars, "Why did they do this? You were so severely hurt, didn’t Gu Zheng ask about it?"
If it were his daughter, Ling Tianyou would’ve made sure that person never appeared before him again.
"Gu Zheng never liked Gu Ningyue as a daughter, and with Li Yulan leading the claim that it was an accident, Gu Heng playing the bad cop, and Gu Wanwan the good cop, do you think Gu Zheng would say anything?"
Ling Tianyou looked at the scars on Gu Ningyue’s back, his eyes filled with pain, "Does it hurt?"
Gu Ningyue shook her head, "No, it hasn’t hurt for a long time."
After all this time, how could it still hurt?
If anything, it’s the residual pain in the original owner’s heart that still lingered!
Even saying this, Ling Tianyou’s hand still turned gentler, "They owe you, and I’ll help you get it back; Li Yulan won’t get what she wants."
Gu Ningyue nodded, "I don’t know why, but I feel like there’ll be a storm waiting for me when I return the day after tomorrow. Maybe Li Yulan is plotting something again!"
Otherwise, why would Gu Zheng be so kind to invite her and Ling Tianyou back for dinner?
