Chapter 2388: Chapter 2388: Not Interested
Xuexue got up from the ground and walked around the Elder’s coffin a few times, even knocking on it, producing a crisp sound. At first glance, she thought this large red coffin was made of wood, but now she knew it wasn’t.
"Elder, this coffin is so sturdy. What material is it made of?"
"It’s made of specially crafted Mysterious Iron." The Elder gritted his teeth as he spoke: "This turtle shell has tortured me immensely. Just carrying it, the noise was so loud that it scared even the mice away. I nearly starved to death."
If the coffin and chains weren’t specially made, he would have long broken free and wouldn’t have spent decades in this cold underground palace, wasting so much of his youth.
Xuexue finally understood why the Elder had sent the Thin Man to steal the treasured sword. It was to break free from the turtle shell on his back.
If a normal person had been locked in the coffin, they would have starved to death long ago. Yet, this Elder, with his martial arts, managed to carry the coffin day in and day out, searching for food. Doing so for decades, such torment is imaginable.
"Elder, if I help you open it, will you take me out of the underground palace?"
"Ahahaha...!"
Upon hearing this, the Elder burst into laughter, tears coming to his eyes. He said, "I’ve been studying this for decades and couldn’t open it. And you, a mere girl with no experience, intend to open it? That’s sheer arrogance."
"How do you know if you don’t try?"
"Then go ahead and try. Anyway, I have nothing to lose."
"Elder, do you agree that if I help unlock it, you’ll let me out?"
"Rest assured, you’re a pretty little girl, but I’m not interested. I already have someone in my heart."
"Alright, it’s a deal."
As Xuexue spoke, she took out a Needle Pack from her pocket, selecting the thickest needle, walked up to the coffin, and inserted it into the lock hole. Initially, her attempts failed several times, but she didn’t give up and continued trying.
Suddenly, with a "click," one lock opened. Xuexue was overjoyed, but she couldn’t be careless because there were dozens of lock holes of various sizes on this coffin, and they were interconnected. To free the Elder from the coffin, she had to open them one by one; even a single mistake couldn’t be made.
The Elder was astounded. He hadn’t managed to unlock a single one in his decades of research, yet this young girl opened one with ease. He began to look at Xuexue with a newfound fondness.
This young girl was really not as simple as she appeared. Initially thought to be just a pretty face, she actually had genuine skills.
"Take your time, girl. There’s no rush, since I’ve waited so many years already."
"Click!"
At that moment, another lock opened.
"Elder, don’t worry. I’m not rushing. Unlocking is a technical job; hastiness only makes it harder," Xuexue said, fully focused on opening the locks.
Elder: "...!"
Damn, this speed is considered slow? He’s been studying for decades and hasn’t opened a single lock!
It’s frustrating to compare oneself to others.
Intelligence is truly unpredictable; smart people can handle things in moments, while dull ones might never figure it out.
In about the time it takes an incense stick to burn, Xuexue had nearly opened all the locks.
The Elder was ecstatic when he saw it. To wait for this day, he had waited for decades, and he finally could break free from the turtle shell. He had thought he’d carry it even in death.
