Chapter 1176: Chapter 1176: Stirring Up Trouble
Wei Kaiyun heard the commotion and came out. Seeing the three people getting out of his family’s car, he finally relaxed.
"Uncle Wei."
"Hmm, you go back to sleep."
"But what about here?"
"We don’t need you here, go back and rest."
Li Yungui also told Guodong to drive back.
The three of them went into the house, and Li Yunqiang was already asleep.
They didn’t wake him. Li Yungui quietly recounted what had happened.
Wei Kaiyun also showed Li Yungui the notes he had made.
"Hmm, let’s just wait. Also, Brother Cunshan, have your wife make food for these ten people, but leave that one person hungry."
They all thought it best to keep these ten people behaving and helpful.
Actually, they could have completely denied knowing about Li Family Village’s application since Li Yungui had only told the director and hadn’t officially reported it to the county.
"Alright, I’m heading back; I’ll be back at six to bring meals."
"Okay, make sure everyone working here is accounted for in the records."
Li Cunshan nodded and left. Old Yang then spoke up. "You all stay here, I’ll go talk to that guy named Zhou."
Li Yungui had no objections, and Wei Kaiyun just reminded, "Be careful."
Old Yang waved his hand and left.
The two people left in the room were shortly joined by Changhe, who came to start the fire.
"No need, you head back to sleep."
The two discussed what might happen. The worst-case scenario was the authorities refusing to let it go, possibly retracting the application.
"They’d still need to ask if the villagers of Li Family Village would agree."
"Right, just like that — they can’t punish everyone. Zhou Qiang does have some influence, but we don’t need to fear him. Old Yang will take care of it soon."
Li Yungui trusted Wei Kaiyun. Once he spoke, he felt assured.
Li Yunqiang woke up as well. "Second brother, is everything alright?"
"It’s fine, we just have to wait. The county and city officials will come by later. You should go to work when you’re supposed to."
"Alright, I understand."
"Village Chief, I’m heading back for a bit, I’ll be back at seven."
"Okay, go ahead. I’m going to talk to Wen Zhenzong. He understands those people best."
After going home and taking a bath, Wei Kaiyun slipped back into bed with his wife.
"Has Li Yungui returned?"
"Yes, I’ll head over at seven."
"Alright, try to sleep quickly. I’ll wake you up when it’s time."
Old Yang returned half an hour later. Wei Kaiyun opened his eyes, showing no signs of having just been in deep sleep.
The two talked in the study for half an hour, by which time Jiang Xinyu had already prepared breakfast.
After eating, Old Yang checked on his wife and son, then left in the car.
"You go back to sleep."
"Alright, I’ll hug my son and sleep well."
At seven-thirty, Wei Kaiyun arrived at the brigade office.
There, the two of them discussed some village matters.
"Wen Zhenzong suggests I stand firm against their bullying of the village’s elderly."
Wei Kaiyun nodded. That’s truly how it was.
After half an hour, the issue at the poultry farm was tallied. The eggs weren’t actually missing, but it was claimed a hundred were gone, and the loss seemed to be multiplying, day by day, beyond just one hundred.
This was a loss of both the money and the resources.
The pig farm, on the other hand, was quite calm. Nothing needed to be said about that.
It was nine-thirty before two cars finally arrived in the village.
The children were all waiting outside, and when Cheng Lin saw the cars approaching, he blocked them.
"Who are you? What are you doing in our village? You’re not with those thieves from yesterday, are you? Friends, go quickly notify the adults, the bad guys are here again."
Xing Zhibin laughed at the little kid. It was quite amusing.
"We’re here to see your village chief. Little one, can you take us to him?"
A dozen or so kids, all aged eight or nine, stood firmly in front of the cars, listening to Cheng Lin.
"You want to see our village chief? You aren’t bad people, are you? Our chief hasn’t even returned yet."
Cheng Lin’s serious tone was thanks to Feifei’s advice. First impressions are powerful, and getting the upper hand is crucial. Let the authority figure think in their favor. There would inevitably be some bias.
"You kids, move out of the way, or we’ll drive right over you."
Cheng Lin refused. "Everyone, lay down! Let them run us over."
Xing Zhibin glanced at the driver who had just spoken, "You’re fired."
"Boss, I didn’t mean it, I was just trying to scare them a bit."
"You’re fired."
Immediately, everyone, including Cheng Lin and the people in the two cars, was silent.
At this moment, Li Yungui and Wei Kaiyun also came rushing over, seeing the kids lying in front of the cars. "What’s going on here?"
"Chief, these are bad people. They told us to move or they’d run us over, so I told everyone to lie down to make it easier for them."
Li Yungui glared at Xing Zhibin. "Director Xing, what’s this about?"
"The person who spoke earlier has already been disciplined."
The implication is for Li Yungui to drop the matter.
"You kids, get up quickly, go do whatever you need to do."
"Chief, they don’t want our village’s eggs, chickens, and pigs, do they?"
"No, no. Since you’re all so spirited, go do some work."
"Chief, we’re not leaving. We have to stay. If anyone tries to mess with our chickens and pigs, we’ll fight them."
Xing Zhibin figured these kids were definitely taught to say this by the adults.
Later, when he learned these were thoughts the children had on their own, he marveled, realizing that everyone in Li Family Village was incredibly clever.
"Get up, quickly."
Finally, the kids got up, but even then, Li Yungui couldn’t chase them away.
"Director Xing, let’s head to the brigade office."
They hadn’t walked a hundred meters when a group of elders approached, supporting each other. Those able to walk with a cane were considered young.
"Second Grandpa, Fourth Grandpa, why are you here? Please go back, there’s nothing to worry about here."
"Gui Zi, you’re such a useless village chief. Back when I was chief, not a single invader left the village alive."
"Second Grandpa, these are our comrades; they’re here to resolve matters. It’s really nothing."
Just then, two older men wobbled over, chests decorated with medals.
This made the people in the cars unable to remain seated; they all hurried out.
Xing Zhibin smiled and glanced at Li Yungui, realizing he also looked helpless and surprised. Could it be this wasn’t arranged by him?
From behind the car, came the voice of Li Yunqiao, "Uncle, you’re out here too? There’s no need to trouble you with this."
"Xiao Qiao?"
"Yes, it’s me." Li Yunqiao quickly helped the elder who spoke earlier, while Li Yungui supported another.
"Xiao Qiao, why did I hear from the kids that Li Family Village was destroyed? Who did it? Where’s the damage?"
"No, no. Uncle, I’ll take you back."
"Xiao Qiao, I heard that Third was beaten up? He’s seventy years old, and you young ones still let him get beaten up? Don’t you feel ashamed?"
"Uncle, my Third Uncle is fine. I’m back to resolve this matter."
