Chapter 197: Chapter 197: The Environmental Protection Industry

"DING!"

"Congratulations, Host, on completing the ’Luxury Car Collection x5’ achievement. You have received one random reward. Do you wish to draw it now?"

Having just paid, Wu Yun certainly wasn’t going to open his reward in the middle of someone else’s store. He planned to go home, shower, change, and then test his luck.

"We’re leaving! Remember to deliver the car after you get the license plates sorted!"

Wu Yun wrapped his arm around Xu Chenxi’s slender waist and walked out the glass door.

Amidst the flattery of Liu Rui and Qiao Xin, Wu Yun drove the freshly washed Big Black Bull away from the dealership.

That evening, leaving an exhausted Xu Chenxi fast asleep on the bed, Wu Yun stepped into the bathroom to rinse off. Only then did he, clad in a bathrobe, sit on the sofa to claim his prize.

"System! Draw the reward!"

Wu Yun rubbed his hands together, watching as the ribbon on a gift box on the virtual screen came undone.

The sound of the box opening echoed in Wu Yun’s mind.

"Congratulations, Host. You have obtained a 50% Off Private Jet Purchase Card (Limit: US$100 million)!"

He let out a long sigh.

Wu Yun let out a long sigh of relief. At least it wasn’t a useless prize.

He had, however, asked the system why his mansion hadn’t earned him an achievement badge.

The system’s explanation was: "It will only be counted if it is under the Host’s name."

This also explained why the G63 hadn’t counted toward his luxury car collection achievement.

Still, Wu Yun had no use for a private jet at the moment, so he could only store the card in his system inventory.

Wu Yun no longer felt the same excitement he had when buying the Lamborghini. He climbed into bed, held Xu Chenxi close, and quickly fell asleep.

...

「The next day.」

Xu Chenxi had originally planned to go back to work, but ever since the idea of starting her own business took root, she couldn’t suppress the urge to resign.

So, she took another day off, ready to spend one more cozy day with Wu Yun.

For lunch, the two of them just ordered some takeout to the hotel.

The location Wang Gang had sent was a teahouse, and they were scheduled to meet at two-thirty in the afternoon.

So, they took their time getting ready before heading out to their destination.

In a teahouse, in a secluded corner booth.

Wu Yun lifted the curtain to the booth.

Inside, two men were sitting side by side, conversing in low voices. They fell silent.

It was Wang Gang and an ordinarily dressed man in his thirties.

The man glanced at Xu Chenxi and frowned slightly.

Wu Yun noticed the expression and said to Xu Chenxi, "Why don’t you wait for me in the main hall."

Understanding, Xu Chenxi picked up her bag and left.

"Young Master Wu! You’re here! Please, sit!" Wang Gang said with a grin, gesturing to the sofa opposite them.

"Let me make the introductions." Wang Gang pointed to the man in his thirties beside him. "This is my friend, Zhou Cheng. He’s the chief engineer for our upcoming project. He’ll be participating by contributing his technology as equity."

Wang Gang then introduced Wu Yun to Zhou Cheng.

Through his glasses’ detection function, Zhou Cheng’s data was laid bare.

What surprised him was that Zhou Cheng actually had two Master Level Skills: Chemical Engineering and Chemical Refining.

"Brother Gang! So, can you tell me what industry we’re investing in now?" Wu Yun got straight to the point.

Wang Gang smiled and said calmly, "It’s a chemical plant related to environmental protection. I wonder, has Young Master Wu ever heard of oil sludge and gold refining? That’s our main focus."

Wu Yun had heard of gold refining, but this was the first time he’d heard of oil sludge.

"What’s oil sludge?"

Zhou Cheng put down his teacup, his expression confident. "Young Master Wu’s family must not be in the chemical industry. It’s normal that you wouldn’t be familiar with it."

"Every year, the petrochemical industry produces vast quantities of oily sludge. This sludge primarily comes from the bottom of crude oil tanks and from wastewater treatment plants."

"Oil waste is a difficult problem to handle. And with the continuous rise in landfill disposal fees, it represents a significant operational cost—especially when this oily sludge is classified as hazardous waste."

"So for both petrochemical companies and the wastewater treatment industry, dealing with this sludge is a major headache."

Seeing Wu Yun’s interested expression, Zhou Cheng continued, "In the past, the disposal method used by many companies and even countries was simple and crude: just dig a pit and bury it."

"But not only does that method pollute the environment, the cost of burial has also been increasing year after year."

As he spoke, Zhou Cheng drew a circle on the coffee table with his right index finger. He then jabbed his finger firmly in the center. "Because of the changes in the domestic macro-environment last year," he said with conviction, "we predict that in the future, major development policies will all revolve around environmental protection."

"Yes, yes! So we’ve also found the right people to handle certain matters, but that, too, comes at a price."

Wu Yun nodded in understanding, but he still didn’t have a clear picture of the industry. He asked, "So, aside from profiting by helping treat oil waste, what are the other revenue streams for this technology?"

Seeing Wu Yun cut straight to the heart of the matter, Wang Gang and Zhou Cheng exchanged a look. Their impression of him instantly went up a Level.

Zhou Cheng smiled. "Refineries come in many types—petroleum, cooking oil, and so on. When the sludge is brought to our plant, we can use our technology to separate the oil from the solid waste."

"The separated solids can then be rendered harmless. As for the oil, we can recover crude petroleum, cooking oil, and even gutter oil!"

Zhou Cheng joked, "Of course, the gutter oil can’t be used for cooking. But with a bit of processing, I can turn it into industrial lubricant."

Wu Yun was quite convinced of the project’s feasibility, but he still had one doubt. "If the project is this promising, why come to a group like us?"

He was referring to the group from yesterday’s party.

Wang Gang understood Wu Yun’s line of thinking. After all, he’d have the same suspicions if he were in Wu Yun’s shoes.

"Young Master Wu, certain... individuals are involved in this project, which is why we need to raise funds discreetly. You should know that a project like this has no trouble finding capital, but if word gets out, it will attract too many eyes from on high."

"Someone is handling the environmental-impact-assessment certificate and all the various permits. Our next step is to raise the capital to build the plant, buy the equipment, and begin production."

"Of course, Brother Cheng’s technology is at the forefront of the industry here in China, and it’s world-class. So, we don’t have to worry about pressure from domestic competitors. The technology is still relatively new in this country."

"But it’s better to strike out on your own than to keep working for others in a research institute. Brother Cheng has already patented his technology and designs."

"So our plan is to invest in building the first plant now. Then, as national policies continue to open up, we’ll expand across the country and grow bigger and stronger!"

"Forty of my fifty million came from my dad. If he wasn’t also busy building new plants on a massive scale, I wouldn’t be sharing such a great opportunity."

Having said his piece, Wang Gang stared at Wu Yun, awaiting his response.
