Chapter 636: Chapter 634: Not a Real Mother

When Ming Wan finished showering and came out, Yan Hui was indeed no longer home, and there were several bags placed at the door of her room. She rummaged through them and found clothes, a full set of toiletries, and even a couple of novels to pass the time...

Everything was exquisite and perfectly suited to her tastes, so Ming Wan knew these must have been bought by Yan Hui himself, not prepared by Little Si.

She couldn’t help but smile; amidst all the setbacks of the day, at least something could bring her a heartfelt smile.

Ming Wan picked up the items and, turning her head, saw a note stuck on the door, with Little Si and his phone number written on it, telling her to call him if she needed anything.

Having his number, she certainly wouldn’t call Little Si.

Later, when Ming Wan estimated that Wan Chuchu should be free, she called her.

"I won’t be going to your place," Ming Wan said, without explaining the reason. She didn’t want anything to do with that woman anymore.

Wan Chuchu asked with concern, "Where will you stay then, are you going back home?"

Ming Wan hesitated for a moment, then said, "I’m not going back home, I’m at a friend’s place, it’s quite close to yours."

"What friend? Is it reliable?"

Wan Chuchu couldn’t help but ask again, thinking that if there were such a close friend, Ming Wan wouldn’t have called her earlier. She worried Ming Wan might have been tricked.

Pressed by Wan Chuchu twice, Ming Wan had to say, "It’s someone you know too, it’s Brother Yan’s place, but he doesn’t live here, it’s just me."

Hearing it was Yan Hui, Wan Chuchu felt relieved and focused on taking care of the two injured little ones.

Jiang Kechu wasn’t home either, so she directly took the two children to the old house and got them excused from kindergarten for a while.

When the people in the courtyard saw Hunter with a bandage on his forehead and Chuanqi with a plaster on his face, they were all shocked.

Mao Xiaoyu and Mrs. Zhu were heartbroken, holding the little ones’ hands, asking what happened, if it hurt, or if it was itchy.

Having already been scolded by Wan Chuchu for an entire afternoon, Chuanqi and Hunter were deflated. Hearing Aunt Xiao Yu and Grandma Zhu asking, they didn’t have the heart to speak up, only glancing at Wan Chuchu’s face and stiffly saying, "It’s fine, it doesn’t hurt."

The old man smiled as he watched them, while Li Shan stood with a blank face, pondering something.

Wan Chuchu snorted unceremoniously and told everyone, "Do you know what these two did? One played the ’heroic rescue’ in front of a pretty girl, acting like a hero. The other idiotically sought revenge and fell into the bush with someone. Look, their faces are all messed up. Don’t they realize their age? Not even five years old, I’ve never seen anyone so foolishly self-destructive."

Embarrassed by their mother’s chiding, Chuanqi and Hunter blushed deeply, inwardly agreeing with her: they had done something stupid.

Old Sir Zhong chuckled and shook his head, addressing the two little ones, "Come on, follow Great-grandpa."

These smart, lively, and adorable little ones shouldn’t be discouraged by Wan Chuchu anymore.

Chuanqi and Hunter obediently followed Great-grandpa. Once they left, Mrs. Zhu and Mao Xiaoyu couldn’t help but protest to Wan Chuchu.

"Chuanqi and Hunter are so young. Can’t you just talk to them properly? They’re so pitiful."

"Exactly, they’re already injured, and instead of comforting them, you’re giving them a hard time."

"If Chuanqi and Hunter didn’t look like you, I’d almost think you’re their stepmother."

"Right, what kind of mother does this?"

...

Wan Chuchu hadn’t expected to be besieged like this. She blinked and said, "You guys are scolding the wrong person. They’re the ones who did wrong..."

Mrs. Zhu rolled her eyes at her, "You’re the stepmother. I’ll go make something good for Xiao Zhuo and Xiao Ya." With that, she leisurely went to the back kitchen to cook.

Though Mao Xiaoyu didn’t roll her eyes at Wan Chuchu, she disapproved, saying, "Sister-in-law, don’t reprimand Xiao Zhuo and Xiao Ya like that in the future. They’re so cute, so smart, how could you be so harsh on them?" With that, she also left.

This left Wan Chuchu bewildered in the wind, wondering what she had done as if she was responsible for the little ones’ injuries.

She looked at Li Shan, who was still standing nearby, and asked expectantly, "Brother Lishan, I wasn’t wrong, right?"

Li Shan gave her a blank glance and said, "In the future, don’t let Hunter and Chuanqi go to that kindergarten. Let them stay here. I’ll teach them martial arts every day. Soon, they’ll be invincible amongst their peers." With that, he turned and walked away, pondering which moves and skills to start with.

Wan Chuchu: "..."

Thus, Chuanqi and Hunter were taken under the care of the old man and Li Shan, while Mrs. Zhu and Mao Xiaoyu busied themselves around the two kids.

When Xiao Bai heard about this, he laughed and said, "Finally you got a chance to teach those two little ones a lesson, or else they’d be pampered enough to have their tails cocked to the sky."

Wan Chuchu shot him a glance, "Talking nonsense with the bare truth."

One must admit, Xiao Bai really knew her well. Just like Mrs. Zhu and Mao Xiaoyu said, the two twins completely inherited the best qualities of her and Jiang Kechu: smart, lively, adorable, receiving praise everywhere they went. These two little ones were praised until they didn’t know how high the sky was, believing they were invincible. That’s why she seized this opportunity to reprimand them harshly, striking heavily at their pride, letting them understand their actual worth.

Meanwhile, after Yan Hui lent his place to Ming Wan, he went to find the Crown Prince.

As soon as he saw the Crown Prince, he coldly questioned, "What do you mean by this? If you really don’t like Ming Wan as your half-sister, then stay away from her in the future!"

"Don’t tell me about settling debts of the mother by the son, taking out the grievances of your mother on Ming Wan."

It turned out that Ming Wan and the Crown Prince were half-siblings, with the Crown Prince’s mother having passed away from depression, not without influence by Ming Wan’s mother.

Upon hearing Yan Hui’s questioning, the Crown Prince’s face immediately turned ashen; it had been a long time since his face changed for anyone.

"Mr. Yan, you’re overstepping. This is our family matter; on what grounds do you come to say such things to me?"

Yan Hui replied, "If you think I’m overstepping, I don’t mind bringing this up to your father."

The Crown Prince’s sharp gaze fixed on him, "Who do you think you are!"

"Just wait and see," Yan Hui countered directly.

In the end, they parted on bad terms, with nothing resolved.

After Yan Hui left, the Crown Prince sat alone for a long time before calming his emotions. He called someone over, calmly instructed them to check Ming Wan’s whereabouts, and soon found out about the incident at the Jinhui Imperial Building and that Ming Wan was now living in Yan Hui’s house.

"Crown Prince, do you need anything done?" the subordinate asked.

After a moment of silence, the Crown Prince waved his hand, "Nothing needs to be done."
