Chapter 634: Chapter 632: Chaos
The driver took Ming Wan back to the entrance of Jinse Garden, in front of Wan Chu’er’s house. Once they arrived, he waited for a moment but saw no movement from Ming Wan, so he softly called out her name a few times.
"Miss, wake up."
"We’re here, you should get off the car now."
Ming Wan groggily came to her senses, and when she saw the driver’s face, she was startled and immediately became fully awake.
"Who are you?" she instinctively wrapped her arms around herself, staring vigilantly at the driver in the front seat.
The driver quickly and respectfully explained, "Miss, hello, I am Mr. Yan’s driver, Little Si. You were drunk, and Mr. Yan instructed me to take you home. Outside is your home."
Little Si?
The name was a bit strange.
Ming Wan glanced outside but didn’t recognize the place.
Mr. Yan? Oh, it’s Brother Yan, she remembered. Earlier, she and Yan Hui had dinner at Jinhui Imperial Building, and Wan Chu’er asked Yan Hui to bring her to Wan Chu’er’s house. Could it be that outside is indeed Wan Chu’er’s house?
Ming Wan came to a realization and asked, "Then where is your Mr. Yan?"
Little Si quickly recalled how Mr. Yan returned home earlier, looking cold as ice, and cautiously replied, "Mr. Yan went home."
That doesn’t seem like Brother Yan’s style, going home by himself and leaving her with the driver. Did something happen? Ming Wan, being very perceptive, immediately sensed something was off.
"Did your Mr. Yan encounter some kind of trouble?"
How to answer this? Little Si was momentarily hesitant. If he told the truth, this refined young lady might feel embarrassed; if he didn’t, he had no idea how else to put it.
Ming Wan noticed Little Si’s hesitation and immediately said, "What’s wrong? Is there something amiss? If it’s a confidential matter involving Brother Yan, then you don’t need to tell me. But if it’s not something that needs to be kept secret, you can just tell me honestly."
That incident probably wasn’t a confidential matter, right? Little Si thought for a moment and decided to be honest:
"Earlier, Miss, you accidentally threw up on Mr. Yan’s leg, and then Mr. Yan went home first and asked me to drive you here afterward."
She threw up on Yan Hui’s leg!
Ming Wan’s face went stone cold and she couldn’t move, her ears only ringing with one phrase: She threw up on Yan Hui’s leg!!!
That scene was unimaginable! Yan Hui, such a clean freak!
Little Si only saw Ming Wan’s face turn red like a lantern in an instant, and she looked as if she’d been struck by lightning, utterly mortified, which was truly pitiful.
So Little Si quickly added, "Mr. Yan’s house is just across the street, very close. He wasn’t angry with you; he even instructed me to bring you back here."
Ming Wan stiffly nodded, hurriedly grabbed her bag, and prepared to get out of the car.
Seeing this, Little Si immediately got out, went to the back to open the car door for her. After Ming Wan got out, she quickly nodded in thanks to Little Si and, without bothering to look back, walked toward the nearby small yard, where a middle-aged woman, who looked like a housekeeper, stood smiling at her.
It should be Wan Chu’er’s housekeeper, right? Ming Wan forced an awkward smile, uninterested in small talk, only wanting to shut herself away quickly.
It was so embarrassing! She actually threw up on Yan Hui.
Ugh ugh... can’t face anyone, can’t face anyone...
Just two steps from the iron gate of the small yard, a voice filled with surprise and a hint of disbelief came from her left, "Ming Wan? Is that you, Ming Wan?"
Ming Wan turned her head to look, and her expression changed even more. Without a second thought, she turned around, took two steps back to the car, opened the back door again, and sat inside, saying to the still-unresponsive Little Si, "Drive, quickly!"
Little Si gave an "Oh," stepped on the gas pedal, and the car sped away again.
This left Wan Chu’er’s housekeeper dumbfounded. She looked in the direction the car disappeared, then turned her head to look at the plump middle-aged woman in front of the gate of their house.
She had seen this middle-aged woman a few times; she lived a couple of doors down, very elegant and well-mannered. It was evident she was someone who always carried herself gracefully. She didn’t expect that she knew a friend of the Legendary Mother, and in such a manner.
As the car left without a pause, the middle-aged woman’s initial surprise turned into sadness and despair. She took two futile steps to try and catch up, then stood there in disappointment, watching in the direction the car left.
The housekeeper waited for a while and then turned to head back inside, deciding she should give Wan Chuchu a call to inform her of what happened.
The sound of the door opening startled the dazed middle-aged woman into speaking, "Excuse me, I have a question I’d like to ask you."
The housekeeper was stunned. She stopped and turned around, looking left and right, noticing the middle-aged lady politely gazing at her, which assured her that the woman was indeed addressing her. Such politeness, such manners from a well-bred person.
"Ma’am, you may ask whatever you need, don’t mention teaching or advice. I’m just a housekeeper," the housekeeper replied with an embarrassed smile.
The middle-aged woman smiled and asked, "May I ask what relation the young lady has with your household? It seemed like she was about to come into your home."
Oh, it turns out she was concerned about the young lady earlier.
The housekeeper thought it over and felt it wasn’t something secretive, so she said, "She is my employer’s friend and was visiting for the first time. I don’t know much else." She cautiously didn’t reveal too much.
Upon hearing this, the middle-aged woman’s eyes lit up, and she asked, "Is your employer at home by any chance? May I meet her?"
"Oh, she’s not back yet."
"I see," the middle-aged woman regretfully replied, but still smiled and said, "Thank you for your trouble."
"You’re welcome, we’re all neighbors," the housekeeper quickly said, thinking how pleasant the lady’s words were as she addressed her with such respect, making her feel quite at ease.
So the middle-aged woman nodded at her and gracefully returned to her own home, inwardly deciding that when the lady of the house returned, she would definitely call upon her.
Once the middle-aged woman passed through her own gate and was out of sight, the housekeeper refocused her attention, clicked her tongue twice, and decided to mention this incident when she called Wan Chuchu later.
After she finished the call with Wan Chuchu, she suddenly remembered and slapped her thigh.
That middle-aged lady looked very much like the friend of the Legendary Mother! The resemblance in the eyes was uncanny; apart from the slightly different nose and mouth, they looked almost identical.
Seated in the car as it swiftly left Jinse Garden, Ming Wan’s face finally started to recover from its pallor, and her hands gradually relaxed.
She didn’t expect to run into that person at Wan Chuchu’s doorstep!
Why was that person there? No way could she go to Wan Chuchu’s house now, and her mind grew even more chaotic.
