Chapter 9: Chapter 009: Not Tired of It
Eva finished shouting, then seemed to realize it was inappropriate, quickly lowered her voice, clutched the files, and jogged over to Sophie, asking with concern, "Are you feeling unwell? If you’re not feeling well, just take a leave. It’s just a day’s salary deduction, money isn’t worth risking your life over."
She really is such a good sister, doing both the good and bad parts herself, and not feeling tired.
"Sophie, come here." Eva pulled Sophie into the break room and asked, "Sophie, how’s the debt you owe?"
Sophie glanced at the time, knowing that every day at this time, someone would come over to brew a cup of coffee.
Sophie’s eyes flashed with a knowing smile, and she said easily, "Paid it off."
"What?" Eva was clearly surprised by the answer, asking incredulously, "Didn’t you say you owed high-interest loans? How did you pay them off?"
"Sophie... did you do something bad?" Eva’s peripheral vision caught a glimpse of men’s shoes outside the break room, intentionally emphasized her tone, saying, "Sophie, you can’t sell yourself."
Sophie gave a charming smile, replied gracefully, "I did sell myself."
Eva gasped, unable to contain the shock on her face, and beneath it, the thrill was about to burst.
"Sophie Wilson, how can you be so depraved?" Bang! The break room door was slammed open, and a man in dress pants and a white shirt stood at the door, his face filled with anger and deep disappointment, glaring at Sophie.
"Selling yourself for a bit of money, I truly misjudged you!" Lucas Payten’s shout caught the curiosity of workers in various departments, making them look over.
"Lucas Payten, what are you yelling about?" Amidst the company’s gossiping, Sophie was unfazed, rolling her eyes at him, mocked, "Are you trying to show that not chasing me was your foresight?"
Sophie’s words turned Lucas’s righteous indignation into embarrassed awkwardness.
Seeing this, Eva hurriedly stood in front of Lucas, "Sophie, Lucas is just worried about you. How can you not recognize his good intentions?"
"Good person?" Sophie glanced at Eva, and burst into laughter, "Just because Lucas used to pursue me, now that he’s your boyfriend, you need to undermine me to feel better?"
Eva’s expression changed, quickly pretended to be confused, asking, "Sophie, what are you talking about? Aren’t we good friends? You were the one who said you owed money, someone was chasing you for debt."
"Besides, you just admitted that you did sell yourself." Eva’s eyes reddened as she looked at Sophie with grievance, "You can’t slander me just because you’re jealous."
"Jealous of you?" Sophie couldn’t help but laugh, "Because you’re the niece of our general manager? Or because you have a boyfriend who, as soon as he knew your identity, launched a fierce attack and became your boyfriend?"
With what Sophie said, many in the company couldn’t hold back their laughter.
Back then, who didn’t know that when Lucas Payten first met Sophie at the company, he was stunned by her, and immediately began pursuing her fervently.
However, Sophie politely turned him down.
Right after being rejected, he turned around and was seen going around with the general manager’s niece, Eva. This opportunistic behavior made those who initially admired his gentlemanly appearance regard him with contempt.
