Chapter 566: Chapter 566: A Call for Aid
"Why are you afraid of that?" Bai Xiqin still didn’t understand.
"It’s a very profound question. I’ll tell you in a week," Bai Yifan said.
Bai Yifan thought the most important thing was to run for their lives. Now their voices had attracted several more zombies.
The pressure from these zombies was too much for him.
Alone, he wouldn’t care. Even if scared, he could run away. Anyway, although he’s weak, he has a knack for getting into trouble and still survives.
But it’s different when he’s with his sister. Naturally, he’s afraid she’ll get hurt.
Even if his sister likes to tease him mercilessly, he still thinks she’s the cutest girl in the world.
He acts as if he’s annoyed by his tomboyish sister, but he’s fiercely protective in reality.
After all, his sister is a girl!
Girls should be protected.
"Xiao Fan, I found a zombie that’s different from the others. Its eyes seem shifty."
Bai Xiqin squinted hard at the horde of zombies, and her gaze finally settled on the face of a middle-aged zombie.
It looked like the other zombies, its face covered with rotting flesh, but its eyes weren’t as vacant. Bai Xiqin even saw it move its eyeballs.
Other zombies would turn their whole face and eyes to look at people, but this one only moved its eyes, making it seem "agile."
"Sis, that should be a High Rank Zombie. Let’s not mess around anymore. We should turn back ahead!"
Bai Yifan pedaled faster, his face twitching severely, but he didn’t say much more.
Afraid of scaring his sister.
In fact, Bai Xiqin wasn’t scared; it was Bai Yifan who was trembling all over.
"Okay!"
Bai Xiqin sensed a hint of malice from the middle-aged zombie’s eyes, which made her uncomfortable.
Better hurry back!
She thought it might be more fun to venture out with mom or grandma.
They are experts at dealing with corpses!
"Roar――"
The middle-aged zombie suddenly let out a loud roar, and following it, Bai Xiqin and her brother heard the distant roars of more zombies.
It was as if they were responding to the middle-aged zombie.
Hearing these sounds, Bai Yifan’s face turned even paler.
They might have bitten off more than they could chew this time!
Bai Yifan gritted his teeth, stood up, and pedaled furiously towards the direction where there were fewer zombies.
It’s not just about getting back to the base now; it’s about escaping the encirclement of these zombies first.
In no time, Bai Xiqin saw a dozen or so zombies chasing after them. These zombies seemed more flexible than ordinary ones and were slightly faster.
But even with their increased speed, they were still slower compared to the bike, so they couldn’t catch up for the moment.
However, the zombies were increasing in number; if they didn’t find a way to shake them off, they would eventually get surrounded.
Without being surrounded, Bai Yifan didn’t dare use his superpower. If it ran out, he couldn’t use the Gold Ability to protect himself and his sister.
So, for the first time, Bai Yifan didn’t shine when in danger, because he knew he was the only one to protect his sister now.
Several times, the zombies’ rotting claws almost touched Bai Xiqin and Bai Yifan, but Bai Yifan didn’t stop. He quickly weaved through the incoming horde of zombies, rapidly observing the surroundings.
He was looking for someone.
Seeing a green garbage truck would be the best outcome.
If not, running into a task team from the safe base would also be great.
The distance to the safe base wasn’t too far, they should be able to encounter them logically.
But all he saw were zombies summoned by the middle-aged zombie, and there was no sign of human Superpower Users.
"Xiao Fan, let’s go that way and climb the wall to fight them off."
Bai Xiqin calmly glanced around and spotted a section of the wall.
The wall was low enough that with a strong leap, they could barely climb over it.
Zombies couldn’t do it. Their stiff limbs made it impossible to climb.
"Okay!"
Bai Yifan instinctively headed in the direction Bai Xiqin suggested. Even though Bai Xiqin had lost her memory and didn’t know how to use her superpower, Bai Yifan still regarded his sister as a boss.
His sister’s authority was everlasting.
"Hey, daughter-in-law, you’re out for a stroll so early too!"
A crisp voice echoed.
Bai Xiqin followed the sound and saw a young girl about Bai Yifan’s age standing in the distance.
The girl had bright eyes and gleaming teeth, her face adorned with a sweet smile, and her big, sparkling eyes appeared exceptionally clear.
Exactly how Bai Xiqin imagined her daughter would look in the future.
So adorable.
"Zhang Chen, we desperately need help!"
Bai Yifan decisively turned and rode towards Zhang Chen.
He had heard from his sister that Zhang Chen might seem like a sixteen or seventeen-year-old girl, but was actually quite formidable, even able to make a Zombie Whale stop in its tracks.
"Xiao Fan, how can you be so rude and address your senior by name!"
Zhang Chen furrowed her eyebrows, ignoring the approaching ordinary zombies, and looked at Bai Yifan disapprovingly.
She was going to be the Base Commander’s woman, which meant she would be Leng Yebai’s stepmother, and Bai Xiqin’s stepmother-in-law.
Bai Yifan was Bai Xiqin’s brother, so logically, she should be his senior.
Seniority isn’t always about age.
Bai Yifan’s mouth twitched, and he seriously addressed Zhang Chen, "Aunt Leng, we desperately need help, please give us a hand!"
Though Zhang Chen and the Base Commander weren’t together yet, calling her "Aunt Leng" wasn’t appropriate, but Zhang Chen liked it.
She loved the surname "Leng." Since the day she met the Base Commander, the surname "Leng" had been etched into her genes.
"Good kid, don’t be afraid! Aunt Leng is here!"
Zhang Chen’s lips curled into a gentle smile, and she gave Bai Xiqin a reassuring smile, as gray and white lights shone from her fingertips.
The energies spread rapidly from Zhang Chen’s center.
The previously raging zombies rushing towards the flesh stopped immediately. Their twisted faces showed a momentary daze.
Before they could react, the white energy spread alongside the gray, enveloping them.
Amidst the hot summer, the zombies became like ice sculptures, frozen to the ground, unable to move.
Bai Xiqin sensed the gray glow emitting a very negative feeling, while the white energy radiated a sense of coldness.
She found this cold feeling familiar but couldn’t recall anything else.
"Daughter-in-law, are you okay!"
Zhang Chen cheerfully came to Bai Xiqin’s side, noticed the scar on her forehead, and her expression instantly froze.
"Daughter-in-law, what’s up with the scar on your face? Who did it! I’m going to kill them!"
Zhang Chen rolled up her sleeves, her young face looking adorably fierce but not at all threatening.
"What did you call me?" Bai Xiqin was most concerned about what the young girl was calling her.
"Of course, it’s ’daughter-in-law’!" Zhang Chen blinked her eyes. "You’ve always been my daughter-in-law, so I just call you that!"
She didn’t know yet that Bai Xiqin had lost her memory.
"What kind of weird relationship is this?"
Bai Xiqin looked at Zhang Chen, who looked even younger than Bai Yifan, and was instantly bewildered.
"Ahem, she plans to be Brother Leng’s stepmother, that’s why she calls you daughter-in-law."
Bai Yifan lightly coughed and quietly explained to Bai Xiqin.
Bai Xiqin: ...
What a mess!
