Chapter 526: Chapter 526: Twinkle, Twinkle, Shining Bright
After the Base Commander opened the door of the castle villa, Bai Xiqin and Leng Yebai were momentarily stunned.
The door was already stunning, and the scene inside was even more breathtaking.
Even without turning on the lights, the luxurious decorations could be seen in the moonlight from outside.
Especially with the refracted light from the crystals, there was an abundance of sparkling items.
Not only was the chandelier adorned with large crystals, but even the columns and the tables were decorated with beautiful crystals.
A little bit of moonlight penetrated into the house, repeatedly refracted, lighting up the entire room like a fairyland.
With the refracted glimmer, one could see the carpet embedded with gemstones.
Without even stepping on it, Bai Xiqin felt a stingy pain.
The taste of the wealthy really is different, laying such expensive items casually on the ground; it’s too extravagant!
Apart from the expensive carpet on the floor, every decoration exuded a sense of "wealth".
The walls were adorned with old ink paintings that were obviously aged.
There was little modern furniture, not even a TV was visible, as everything was decorated in an ancient style.
It just looked like a very wealthy setting.
Bai Xiqin took a step and was jabbed by the gemstones embedded in the carpet.
"Why are these things on the carpet?"
Bai Xiqin felt an urge to bend down and pluck the gemstones out of the carpet.
"Hua loved to walk barefoot on pebbles, claiming it could massage the acupoints of the feet. Always going out to step on pebbles easily tanned the skin, so at home, such special carpets were laid."
The Base Commander said with a serious face.
Bai Xiqin: ...
Why not just bring the pebbles from outside into the house?
Indeed, she couldn’t comprehend the world of the wealthy.
"There’s nothing much to see upstairs, just some useless crystals and diamonds. Let’s head straight to the basement!"
The Base Commander honestly felt there was nothing interesting to see, as all that glitters cannot be eaten.
"Okay!"
Bai Xiqin’s mouth twitched slightly, glanced at Leng Yebai, and raised her eyebrows at him.
Unexpectedly, he was not only a promising young business leader but also a super second-generation rich kid!
Tsk!
If not for the end of the world, this ability would definitely lead him to the pinnacle of life.
Leng Yebai obviously understood Bai Xiqin’s thoughts and gave her a helpless smile.
If Leng Yebai could choose whether the world ends or not, he would unhesitatingly choose the world’s end.
No matter how many people die.
Because they met during the apocalypse, and if not for it, he believed he would still be a lonely person!
Owning a vast fortune, yet with no one to accompany, is actually a sad phenomenon.
Leng Yebai did indeed have a fondness for wealth, but the wealth he loved was not what he owned, but the smile that bloomed on Xiao Niu’s face when he gave it to her.
That was what he most wanted to see.
The Base Commander led the two further inside, stopping before a wall.
On the wall hung a gigantic painting, an oil painting depicting a family of three, identical to the photograph in the locket the Base Commander held.
It was a painting of Leng Yebai’s family of three.
The softness on the woman’s face in the painting was magnified a hundredfold, just sitting there exuded a sense of harmony.
The Base Commander gazed quietly at the oil painting, carefully took it down, and placed it aside.
Behind the painting was a hidden secret door; the Base Commander’s hand pressed something unknown and pushed open a white invisible door almost blending with the wall.
Inside the door was pitch black, a chill continuously flowed out from within.
Bai Xiqin reached out to touch the invisible door and could feel a slight coldness.
"It may be a bit cold inside." The Base Commander nonchalantly walked into the nearest room to the invisible door, came out holding a blanket, handed it to Bai Xiqin, and smiled, "Covering up with this might make it better."
Bai Xiqin, possessing an Ice Ability, was sensitive to cold but did not feel particularly cold.
She accepted the Base Commander’s kindness without refusal, thanked him, wrapped the blanket around herself, and walked in with the Base Commander and Leng Yebai.
Upon entering, perhaps it was an illusion, but Bai Xiqin constantly felt as though there was a mist lingering inside, possibly because it was too cold, spilling out cold air.
The Base Commander turned on the lights in the basement, and they weren’t particularly bright, emitting a dim and pale yellow glow.
The deeper they went, the colder it felt.
"It’s just inside; you’ll need to talk to her properly. She really wants to find you."
The Base Commander’s voice was soft.
Leng Yebai didn’t say anything, nor did he respond, but Bai Xiqin noticed out of the corner of her eye that he gave a barely noticeable nod.
The three finally arrived in front of a huge glass ice coffin.
The glass coffin appeared hazy, vaguely revealing the graceful figure of a woman lying inside.
Leng Yebai’s mother died more than twenty years ago, back when people got married; she was probably around the same age as Bai Xiqin now.
The whole glass coffin emanated waves of chilly air, visibly dissipating coldness.
Besides the refrigerated ice coffin, Bai Xiqin saw many scientific methods for preservation.
With the Base Commander’s financial prowess, achieving such a thing was too easy.
All it took was money.
"Hua, our son has been found, his eyes resemble yours, rest assured." The Base Commander’s voice was gentle, "He not only hasn’t given us any trouble but found himself a wonderful wife."
"This daughter-in-law is a very gentle and kind girl, whose family is also very amiable and easy to get along with."
"By the way, our son is even considering becoming a stay-at-home son-in-law. Being one is great, with such a lively family atmosphere. But for our family of three, it’d just be our son and me left. If he becomes a stay-at-home son-in-law, wouldn’t I just be left lonely?"
Though speaking to the ice coffin, the Base Commander’s eyes were fixed on Leng Yebai, his voice haunting.
"Why don’t you send a dream to our son, telling him to take his old father, who might not be able to care for himself in decades, with him when he becomes a stay-at-home son-in-law!"
"If he really doesn’t agree, you come up and take him away, have a good talk with him! Moreover, if the Bai Family dares to cancel the engagement, refusing our son as a stay-at-home son-in-law, you come up and take them away, have a nice chat."
The Base Commander maintained a calm demeanor.
Leng Yebai: ....
Bai Xiqin: ....
This was naked hostility!
Upon seeing the ice coffin, Leng Yebai felt a tinge of sadness, but hearing the Base Commander’s words, that faded.
He sinisterly thought, if the Base Commander were to die, would he have the right to scatter his ashes?
Leng Yebai muttered maliciously, thinking he’d need to ensure the wind was favorable when spreading the ashes; otherwise, ending up with a face full would become a mental scar!
"Ahem, I’ve said my piece, now it’s your turn."
The Base Commander silently stepped back, raising an eyebrow at Leng Yebai.
Leng Yebai walked two steps towards the ice coffin, gazing quietly at the blurry silhouette inside.
He uttered not a word, just standing there.
It seemed like he didn’t say anything, yet felt as though everything was spoken.
