Chapter 41: Hydra's Lair

"No one. Only a small minority of people here can speak the same language as you kid."

The bulky man leaned onto his shield while drinking the ale in his mug. Foam fell to the ground as the liquid overflowed from his mouth.

He looked to be in his sixties and had very heavy armor on himself, the only part that was not covered was his face, which was covered by a long white beard and short hair.

Cien's teasing hit the nail on the head as Leo turned a bit red on his face out of embarrassment about expecting more.

"Well... I'm glad at least you showed up!"

Leo sprung up and went to shake the old man's hand while introducing himself and the party.

"...And here is Gloppy, he will help you on the front lines. I think its everyone."

"Akshually you fhorghot one pershon!"

Amelia fixed her glasses while angrily stomping toward him while looking into the sky. With each step closer, she got redder on the face.

She ran up to Leo and the old man rapidly and pushed their heads away from herself before she could relax.

"I've decided to jhoin your pharty."

[Party Status]

[Leo Astralis 🜲 - Level 22]

[Nyssa Choi - Level 20]

[Amelia Branderwurst- level 31]

[Trevor Torin - level 30]

Both of the new party members looked at the status window and then back at Leo, then back at the window and the summoner, this continued for a while before both of them exploded.

"Level 22?! Are you the Leo Astralis that beaten so many gates?"

"I khnew it was too ghood to be thrue!"

Her hand was already hovering over the button to leave the group, and so did the older man. They expected people on the same level as the Explorer's Guild, not some run-off-the-mill Climbers.

"Wait wait, I can prove to you that I am who I say I am."

He took out his phone and called a number, handing it over to the two, they could hear Adams on the line asking who was it calling him at such a crucial moment.

They had a pretty short talk with him clarifying that he is THE Leo Astralis and his strength is nothing to scoff at.

Amelia sighed loudly while stepping away from the two men.

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions so fast."

Trevor also nodded to show that he is in fact, sorry about treating him like a liar.

"It's okay, now that we have everything sorted out, we can begin our expedition."

Before they could enter though, they had to stop at a military checkpoint right in front of the entrance to the gate.

One of the soldiers handled their signing documents as to not interupt their mission any longer. It was a pretty basic form that Leo signed without even asking someone to translate it.

"Good luck on your attempt, team 001."

All of the people there saluted at them as they entered through the gate. They even fired a barrage of shots into the sky to show their respect for their sacrifice.

'They are acting way stranger than I expected.'

[Entering Hydra's Lair]

In an instant, the odor of dead bodies hit their nostrils as piles of corpses laid around the entrance.

They found themselves inside a deep tunnel with barely any light.

The Fearmonger threw a fireball through it to give them vision.

Now they were able to see a few goblins smashing bones while searching for anything valuable the Climbers might have had on them before their death.

Amelia puked at the grotesque sight in front of them, it was the first time she had seen that many dead people at once.

While she did that, the furious Leo and Nyssa massacred all of the green creatures desecrating corpses.

"That's strange, I don't remember the report of this place mentioning goblins."

Trevor noticed while caressing his beard, the heavy armor he wore clunking with each step.

Now that he mentioned this fact, it struck all of them as a bit odd.

Even Leo didn't have an explanation for the sudden appearance of new monster species inside a gate.

There was only one way to find out what was happening in the gate, and that thing was to continue exploring the gate.

Slowly, they made their way out of the tunnel, killing any monsters they saw so they wouldn't call for any backup.

Once they left the tunnel, they found themselves in an endless swamp in all directions, only thing that broke the gloom terrain was a few patches of mangrove trees.

A bunch of Murlocks patroled the area. The fish like creatures rode huge frogs and held out their javelins. Leo pointed towards nearby bushes.

One of the monsters held out a horn and blew into it, making the group believe they were spotted.

"Mrglglglglgl!"

It called out while pointing in a different direction than the one where the group hid.

Leo peeked over the bushes to see what was going on. There was a group of tall blue creatures in the distance walking towards their direction.

As they got closer, the weather turned from a humid sear to ice cold blizzard that raged over the terrain.

After a few more steps, they were able to make out the source of this terrible weather. There was a group of Ice Golems walking towards the Murlocks.

'Another group of monsters that shouldn't be here...'

Both of the monster groups began to fight for territory, like animals they tore each other apart and screamed.

Then, it clicked.

The gears inside the summoner's brain began to spin and the wheels were turning.

"I figured it out!"

He screamed it out instead of thinking about it in his brain.

Every single person and monster in the proximity looked at him, most in shock, some in disappointment.

"Run!"

Trevor yelled while taking his shield out. Javelins and ice bolts were thrown his way, but he blocked them without an issue.

"No! Don't run, we are killing them here."

Leo stated as he took out his Spirit Sword and Water Spirit Staff. Amelia and Nyssa took out their weapons as well, ready to fight.

In an instant, a whole army of summons appeared behind them, which broke the morale of their enemies and surprised the two new recruits.

However there was no way for them to escape now as they were swarmed by endless sea of Hellwings and slimes.

"Listen here."

He pulled all of them close to himself while the monsters were being slaughtered like cattle.

"Are you going to apologize for getting their attention?"

The still shocked Trevor asked while glancing at the fight between monsters, then at Leo who almost caused them to get attacked by them. However Leo shook his head and sighed loudly.

"It's the other gates, they were empty because the monsters somehow passed here through them."

They looked at him like he was a lunatic, but that didn't matter to him. Right now their attention was the only thing he needed.
