Chapter 70: Ch 70: Intruders in Home

"Sir, are we going to take this insult lying down? Once people hear about what happened here, all our respect and fear will be gone. We need to do something fast."

The council leader nodded at those words, showing that he understood the gravity of the situation.

They could try to hide what happened, but the truth had ways of revealing itself. A single careless mouth under the influence of too many drinks would be their undoing.

Moreover, even if they could silence the nobles, the servants and spies were a different matter.

’Darn it! I suggested this match in an open space so that I could show the difference in our strengths. How did this end up having the opposite effect?’

The council leader almost slammed his hand on the table before he calmed himself down.

Getting angry at his fellow council members would not help. It would only alienate them even more.

"So, what are we going to do about that slave? She might be a Sword Master, but her origins as a slave remain. Do we really have to welcome someone like her into the noble ranks?"

"Ugh, just thinking about that woman seducing another noble and mixing her blood with ours makes me feel disgusted."

The nobles shuddered at the thought. But there was one reason they could not let go of her—her power and connections.

If she were to head to a more open-minded country and marry into their ranks, not only would they gain another Sword Master, but they would also gain a way to contact Grand Master Kael.

"Everyone, since it has come to this, let’s welcome that slave into our ranks with open arms. Merebel, contact Sir Ridley. Tell him that we have a new wife for him to take. In exchange, we will need some...compensation."

Merebel Winter, the noble secretary of the council leader, bowed to him and went out. She kept her expression neutral, but it turned to one of disgust as soon as she left the council room.

"Those idiots! Not only are they going to make an enemy out of a Sword Master, but they’re also trying to pawn her off? Sir Ridley is hardly a noble himself, and this will be his tenth marriage. Do they think Grand Master Kael’s eyes are just for show?"

Merebel was a young lady and had only earned her place in the council because of her beauty. She knew better than anyone how rotten the council was.

After all, she was just an accessory to these people as well.

"Ugh, now that things have come to this, I have no choice but to play both sides."

She quickly entered the post office with orders to send a single message. But she ended up sending two instead.

This way, she could plead her innocence once Grand Master Kael officially moved against the council.

’This council will not last much longer. I better start looking into people who can replace these fools. Thankfully, I started making a list a long time ago.’

Now it was time to officially start looking into things.

"Finally, we are home... Why are there people right outside the main gate? I don’t think I recognize them."

Iris entered the main gate first and paused as soon as her eyes landed on two unconscious bodies on the ground.

A proud Lyra quickly came out to greet them, standing over the two unconscious bodies with her head held high.

"It seems our dear Lyra dealt with these two intruders who tried to break into our home. You did a good job."

Kael had not expected such a gift when he returned home, but it was nice to see that Lyra had defended his home. It meant that she recognized this place as her home as well.

The Demon Queen leaned into his hand for a bit before she realized what she was doing and decided to bite him.

But her teeth were not developed yet, so Kael felt nothing.

He picked her up, and Lyra protested before settling into his arms. But she began to struggle again when he handed her to Seraphina.

"You all should head inside. I will take care of the clean-up here."

There were looks of protest before the trio decided that Kael was the only one with the authority to resolve this issue.

Kael watched them leave before he grabbed one of the intruders and shook him.

"Well, it’s time to check up on you and see who your employer is. Although, I have a feeling I already know who sent you."

For someone to voluntarily break into his place, they needed to have both a motive and a way in. Normal people could not even see this place.

So it had to be someone who had access to enough resources to make it possible.

"Hmm, let’s see. What was the spell that allowed me to trace magic?"

Kael’s memory was sharp, but it was not photographic. That was why he had created a simple spell that could help him recall most of his knowledge.

It was also the reason he could remember his previous life and had such an easy time adjusting to this one. It was one of his proudest achievements from his past life.

"Oh! So it was the Cardinal? The council must have told him that they were going to call Iris, Leon, and me in for a meeting. Did he decide to use this chance to grab Seraphina? That was a foolish assumption."

Kael sighed before taking out his staff. He pointed it at the unconscious pair, and they became trapped inside a box.

"I should send the Cardinal this gift as well. I am sure he would appreciate it."

Kael smiled coldly before using a tracking spell to send a message. A large messenger bird appeared and grabbed the box in its claws before flying away.

With this, one more matter was settled. However, it also raised more questions for him.

"Now then, I need to find out which tower member leaked my location to the temple. They are the only ones who know the key to this place."

Kael raised his staff, and the magic barrier spun around him before changing shape. With this, the key to entering his domain changed once more.

"Ah, it looks like I cannot avoid visiting the tower now. I better bring the master a gift as a bribe so that I can investigate more freely."
