Chapter 141: Ch 140: A Surprised Presence
"Cardinal Flux is planning something. Should we foil his plan?"
Leon asked as he walked beside Kael. He was supposed to walk in front with the guards, but Leon decided he did not want to do that.
And if the Hero did not want to do something, then the temple was in no position to force him. So that was how Leon ended up walking beside Kael while they headed toward their assigned chamber.
"We don’t even know what the Cardinal is planning, so how do you plan to foil his plan?"
Kael asked, and Leon gave him a confident glance.
"I will find a way. You do not need to worry about it. I have a plan or two-"
The chamber doors were opened for them, and Leon stepped inside first. But Kael was stopped outside.
"Please wait out here for the Hero. There is sacred ground beyond this point. Only the Hero is permitted entry."
The guards blocked Kael’s way, which he did not appreciate. But he could understand their hesitation as well.
There was a barrier that prevented people from entering the inner chamber. Leon could enter because he was the Hero.
However, to say that only Leon could enter that area would not be correct. Kael had a feeling he had more than enough power to cross the barrier as well.
"Tsk, if Kael entering that space is a problem, then I will give him permission. Now let him in."
Leon demanded, but the guard still looked scared yet firm.
"I am afraid it is not that simple. The barrier will-"
"Then, it won’t be a problem if the barrier does not reject me, right?"
Kael placed a hand on the guard’s shoulder, and that took the guard by surprise. But after thinking about it for a few more moments, he decided that it was the best course of action.
The barrier was here to prevent unwanted entry, and there was no way it would allow someone like Kael to enter.
"Alright! You can try your luck."
The guard told Kael confidently, and Kael nodded before he headed toward the barrier. It tried to resist Kael, but it was not very firm.
Kael was easily able to push his way inside with a small bit of force, making the guards look beyond shocked.
"Y-You! How did you-?"
"How did I enter? Well, the barrier did not reject me."
Kael pointed out, and it made the guards annoyed. So they decided they wanted to try coming in as well...only for the barrier to reject their entry.
"Well, that resolves one issue. If the barrier did not want me to come in, it would have rejected me."
The guards had nothing left to say after that, and Kael immediately headed after Leon to the inner chamber where the baths were.
However, as soon as he entered beyond the barrier, he noticed that he and Leon were not the only ones inside. There was another young and innocent presence inside.
"Leon-"
"I know. There is someone else in here as well. We better keep our guard up."
Leon nodded and took the lead. He was ready to take out the intruder, but something else waited for them inside.
Instead of an intruder here to kill them, it was a young boy who looked hardly older than Seraphina. And he was startled by their presence.
"Who are you, and what are you doing here?"
Leon asked in a rough voice, causing the kid to flinch.
"I-I was brought here by the Cardinal. He said that he had something important to tell me. I-I did not do anything wrong. Please forgive me."
The kid begged earnestly, and it was a pathetic sight to see. Kael felt sorry for the kid, who was obviously being used by the Cardinal, but Leon had no such pity in his system.
"Tsk, what are you asking forgiveness for? Be more clear with your words. And you better tell us clearly what that man is planning next."
Leon threatened the kid, who looked even more scared.
Kael felt sorry for the kid and decided to place a hand on his shoulder to ease his fear.
"It’s alright. Leon did not mean any harm by what he said. He’s just a little stressed. Now, would you like to tell us what the Cardinal told you?"
The kid looked much calmer once Kael stood in front of him, and he instantly leaned toward him, away from Leon.
After a few seconds of deliberation, the kid finally decided to open up.
"C-Cardinal Flux...told me that I had an important role to play. He said that the Saintess had a new prophecy, and I was going to play a role in it. He...did not say much to me after that."
Kael nodded to show that he was listening. But honestly, he was more concerned about the spell that had been cast on this kid. The aura of magic coming off him was too strong.
"I see. That’s not a good thing. Would you like me to calm your nerves?"
Kael asked, and the kid looked grateful.
"You would do that for me? T-Then, I would appreciate your help."
The kid agreed, and Kael forced his magic through him. Not only did he calm the kid down, but he also used his magic to remove the other magic that had filled the kid.
Kael pulled back quickly, and the kid in front of him looked relieved to finally have his body back.
"Do you feel better now?"
Kael asked, and the kid nodded.
"I do. I...do you mind if I ask for your name?"
Kael hesitated to give his name...mostly because Leon was giving him glances that said, ’Don’t you dare.’
But in the end, the earnest look he was receiving won.
"My name is Kael. You can come and look for me if you ever need help."
Kael told the kid, and he nodded. Unfortunately, he needed to leave before Kael could question him any further.
But it was clear what the Cardinal was doing here.
He was likely going to announce a new Hero today to try and gain control of the situation.
