"Yes," John said.

"Because Maren’s specific capacity is the human instrument," Daven said.

"Yes."

"The engagement will be conducted in the medium that Maren has been administering for four centuries," Daven said. "In the human bodies of the people conducting the engagement."

"Yes," John said. He held Daven’s gaze with the honest attention. "Which is why it is the last one rather than an earlier one. The preparation required the prior engagements. Not for the operational learning alone. For what the prior engagements produced in the instruments that the Caldris Basin requires."

"The staff," he said.

Daven was quiet.

"The covenant claims the medium," he said. Not the question. The accurate naming of the strategy’s form.

"Yes," John said.
