Chapter 420: Substitute Bride of the Demon King (24)
Silas was stunned for a second. This young woman still dared to hide!
The man felt even angrier. He grabbed the book on the table and smashed it onto her head, saying, "You are so brave that you even dared to make fun of me."
Yue Ran tried to move behind the table but was hit on the head by the leather book that the man had thrown at her. She cried out an "ouch" and appeared to be in great pain. She could only beg for mercy, "Do not be angry, Your Majesty. Do not throw things at me anymore. I know I was wrong. I apologize for my mistake. I really just want to make you happy..."
How could Silas, who was angry, listen to her words? All her words were just excuses in his ears.
"Make me happy? Oh, very good! I am very happy thinking about how many creative ways there are to kill you now," Silas said.
"Wait— don’t..." Yue Ran cried out in a panic.
The young woman wanted to hide, but when she stood up in a hurry, her forehead accidentally hit the raised wooden frame with a loud bang.
"It hurts... so much..." she complained weakly as she lifted a hand to touch her head.
Yue Ran staggered forward, her head spinning as an overwhelming dizziness washed over her like a heavy fog. Everything around her began to blur—shadows warping into indistinct shapes while colors bled together, creating a disorienting whirlpool that threatened to consume her.
This feeling was too bad. The young woman held her head and took a few steps forward in an effort to push through the growing weakness, but her body went limp soon after. The ground rushed up to meet her. At the last moment before her vision turned completely black, she caught a glimpse of the Demon King—a tall, imposing figure, draped in shadows, striding toward her.
"I have tolerated your misbehavior for a long time, and I can’t tolerate it any longer," Silas said as he walked toward Yue Ran with a sneer. "You dare to pretend to be dead? Do you really think I am a fool who can’t see through your tricks?!"
Yue Ran lay on the ground and did not respond.
Silas could not help but become even angrier now. He always had a bad temper. He rudely grabbed her wrist and pulled her up with force, yet her body still did not respond.
"Get up for me," he commanded. "Do not make me repeat myself."
After rudely tugging her hand to the side, revealing her condition, Silas then realized that her forehead was bleeding. He was stunned for a moment, and then his eyes turned deep.
Did this woman really faint? Or was she faking it?
Silas loosened his grip on her wrist and suppressed his anger. He felt a bit stuffy and depressed.
After coming to the conclusion that Yue Ran was genuinely unconscious, Silas threw the hand that he was holding on to the ground with a thud, intending to let her die of blood loss like this. However, when he looked down, he saw that she had her eyes closed and her face was bloodless, appearing very pitiful.
For some reason, the man felt a little reluctant to leave her fainting on the floor with blood flowing freshly from her head, all alone. Therefore, in a moment of trance and softness, he picked her up again.
"Someone, come and call the doctor," he barked out an order to the guards standing on call by the doors of his study.
As soon as he finished speaking, Silas realized a problem. He seemed to be soft-hearted toward this young woman— this fake— which was very wrong.
He could not help but fall into a kind of contemplation.
...
As soon as the doctor finished the diagnosis, he stepped aside and reported the situation to the Demon King with a bow, "Do not worry, Your Majesty; the lady is fine, but her physique is weak, and she has been overworked in the past few days, which caused the wound on her arm to be slightly infected. She had fainted because of this. She will recover after some rest."
Silas nodded and then waved his hand impatiently at the doctor, signaling for him to leave.
"Okay, go down and get her some medicine," he said. "It is enough as long as she does not die."
This is really cruel, the old doctor thought. He wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and did not dare to look around, and honestly withdrew.
Silence returned to the bedroom.
The incense burner on the table emitted wisps of hypnotic white smoke.
Silas glanced at the comatose Yue Ran on the bed. He now knew the cause of her fainting, but he felt even more upset.
Things had been getting more and more wrong since this woman came. The things she did, the words she said, and the way she looked at him when they were together all showed one fact: this woman admired him.
He could deny this no longer.
This realization slowly made Silas’s strange emotions rise. It seemed as if something unknown was eating him up bit by bit from the inside.
But even if the young woman did like him, what did it matter? He did not need other people’s affection, not to mention that this woman was just a substitute. There was a huge difference between her and Ellie, so how could she ever compare with Ellie?
After thinking for a long time, he still attributed his soft-hearted act to the fact that he loved Ellie. It was just because this woman looked similar to Ellie, so he felt a little sympathy for her.
Yes. The man nodded, successfully convincing himself. He had figured it out.
Silas turned around and wanted to leave the bedroom. But as soon as he stood up, he found that the corner of the sleeve of his...
