Chapter 77: Alchemist / 8.11 : After dinner from hell
As they ate dinner there was a great ambiance all around. Everyone seemed happy. When they finished eating they all left for the living room. Eden crossed his legs and looked at his uncle who was sitting in front of him.
"Uncle, why do you look so happy?"
Huang smirked and answered:
"I have a gift for you."
Eden’s eyes shone in excitement.
"What is it?"
Huang pulled out the contract and Yinglun immediately took it and gave it to Eden with a bright smile.
Yan who was sitting on the side frowned and then looked at the hour. What is going on? Why aren’t they here yet? He stood up and tried to pull the contract out of Eden’s hands but he was faster than him. Eden looked at him confused.
Yinglun couldn’t understand what Yan was trying to do, she pushed him onto the couch and sat on his lap. She asked in his ear:
"Don’t you want to see his face when he founds out?"
No, he doesn’t that’s why he made sure it wouldn’t happen. He looked at the hour again stressed than at Eden to see his reaction.
Eden skimmed through the contract and looked at Huang confused. He had a grin on his face.
"What is this?"
"Isn’t it clear? It’s a legally binding contract declaring that you’re giving me my father’s entire inheritance including Z Elixir."
The twins looked at Huan furiously. Eden tilted his head with a smile:
"Why should I sign that?"
Huang said with a sadistic smile:
"Because I’ve been poisoning you and the only way you’ll get the antidote is if you sign that contract and finish the experience my father had started before dying."
Eden scoffed:
"That’s impossible you and I didn’t have any close contact for you to poison me."
Huang grinned and pointed out:
"You and I might not have but you and Yan did. He was extremely useful."
When Eden’s smile fell the entire family chuckled.
Eden slowly turned his head toward Yan and asked:
"Is that true?"
Yinglun who was sitting on his lap smiled.
"Of course, it’s the truth did you really think my fiance was interested in you? Yan just pretended to be your friend so he could poison you but like a fool, you fell in love with him. You are pathetic."
Eden ignored her and just focussed on Yan.
"Is it true?"
Yan was about to speak when someone rang. As soon as the maid opened policemen entered the living room. Huang frowned and looked at the detective.
"What is going on here?"
The detective asked:
"Are you Zhen Huang?"
He nodded with a frown.
The detective ordered one of the policemen:
"Cuff him."
Huang took a few steps back and yelled:
"You have no right to arrest me for no reason."
The detective said:
"You’re under arrest for illegally producing poison. You’re aware that producing any illegal poison is punishable by up to 30 years in prison."
Another policeman held him until he was in handcuffs. Zihan screamed:
"He didn’t do what you said you can’t just throw an accusation like that."
The detective smirked and asked:
"Do you mean that the footage of him buying the ingredients for the poison and him preparing it in a laboratory at Z Elixir isn’t real?"
Huang looked at him wide-eyed. How could they get the footage of him making the poison when no one knew what he was doing?
People think that he knows nothing about alchemy but he knows enough to make poison and some potions. But no one knows that at the company. The only one who knew he made the poison was his wife, daughter, and Yan. He turned his head and looked at Yan. He seethed:
"You son of a bitch you’re the one who turned me in."
Yan looked at Eden uncaring of Huang, Eden was looking at the contract sadly.
He pushed Yinglun who was sitting on his lap crying and she fell to the floor. Yan knelt in front of Eden and he met his eyes.
"I already have the antidote I promise I won’t let you die."
"You’re the one who’s been poisoning me and now you care?"
When Yan saw the anger in Eden’s eyes he felt his heart clench. He held his hand and said:
"I didn’t think I would come to care for you but I did. I swear I’ll protect you and I won’t let anything happen to you ever again."
The entire family looked at Yan in shock. Not only did that son of a bitch denounce Huang to the police but he even got the antidote for Eden. Yinglun stood up and cried:
"How could you do this to us? You’re turned my father in and now you’re saying you love him!"
Eden looked at the policeman and asked:
"If I have proof of Huang’s accomplices can they be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law too?"
The detective nodded.
Eden ordered:
"Don’t move I’ll get you everything you need."
Eden left for his room and Yan followed him. The twins were about to follow but when Eden looked at him they stood in place. Eden got in the elevator and ignored Yan. He walked out when he was on the third floor and entered his home office. He took a seat behind his desk and opened his computer.
Yan stood before the desk and looked as Eden seemingly searched for something.
"Eden?"
"En?"
"Did you hear what I said?"
"I don’t need your help."
Yan frowned, he leaned in and said:
"Eden I know that you’re angry but please take the antidote."
Eden pulled out a USB card and grabbed his tablet. He finally met Yan’s eyes and ordered:
"I trusted you but you betrayed me so from now on stay away from me."
Eden left and Yan ran after him. Eden ran down the stairs to avoid him but Yan followed him.
When he arrived in the living room Zihan was begging on her knees to the detective:
"Please let him go."
The detective sneered:
"Do you really think I’m going to let him go when he broke the law just because you knelt?"
Yinglun burst out crying again. What is she going to do without her father taking care of her?
Eden showed a video to the detective. Hearing their voices Yinglun and Zihan immediately panicked. As soon as the conversation started they knew that they were screwed. They remember that day, Huang was saying how he doesn’t have time to get a few elements and he sent them both to get more of it. They clearly said in the tape that they were going to poison Eden. It is more than enough to incriminate them.
When the video ended the detective just looked at a few policemen and they handcuffed them. Eden gave the detective the USB, he took it and took them all away as they screamed. When they were gone Eden crossed his arms and looked at Yan. He took a step forward but he stopped when his brothers stood next to Eden.
"Get out."
Yan swallowed with difficulty.
He pulled out a vial from his pocket and put it on the table.
"Even if you don’t want to talk to me at least drink the antidote."
When Eden grabbed it he felt better but he smashed it on the floor. Yan looked at the broken vial on the ground wide-eyed. This is the only antidote he had made, he was planning on giving it to Eden secretly.
He fell to his knees looking at the vial with tears in his eyes. He had talked to the police so they would show up during dinner but they came too late. Eden has already seen the contract and knows that he’s been helping his family. If that wasn’t bad enough in a couple of weeks he’ll die. The main ingredient for the antidote is impossible to find, it took him forever to find it. He looked when Eden yelled again:
"Get out!"
Yan stood up and left in a hurry. He needs to find a way to keep Eden alive. He’ll never rest until he is safe.
When he was gone Eden rolled his eyes, and the twins smiled. Eden narrowed his eyes at them and asked:
"What are you doing here?"
Zishu looked at him innocently and answered:
"We just wanted to make sure you’re okay."
Zhenxuan asked:
"Did you drink the poison Yan gave you?"
"I did."
The twins looked at him wide-eyed. Zushi held his hand tightly and said:
"Eden from the way Yan reacted it seems like the ingredients in it are hard to find."
Zhenxuan said:
"We need to find out what poison he..."
"I’m okay. The day we met I was making an elixir to stop me from ever being poisoned."
The twins both let out a breath.
"I’m an alchemist my nose is spiritual I know when I’m being fed poison."
The twins couldn’t stop themselves from hugging him. Eden smiled but it disappeared when they pulled back.
"You should leave."
Zishu said:
"No, we’re staying the night."
Eden crossed his arms.
"You don’t have anything."
Zhenxuan said
"We brought a bag."
Eden rolled his eyes again and left for his room followed by the twins.
