Chapter 269: Interstellar / 2.4 : Disrespectful
As Kian walked to his quarters with Xiaoshu, he asked:
"Did you know private Bei before today?"
Kian answered:
"I didn’t. For some reason, Shaotian has it out for me."
Xiaoshu said:
"You should call him private Bei, I feel it will make him angrier if you don’t."
Kian smiled.
"I don’t have to, since I’m just a recruit right now. I know every rule of Bei Academy."
Xiaoshu smiled and asked:
"Aren’t you afraid of him?"
Kian said:
"It’s true that his spiritual force is overwhelming. I don’t like it, it makes me feel uncomfortable. But I’m more impulsive than scared, so I tend to say things others wouldn’t."
Xiaoshu smiled and said:
"I’ll help you with that."
Kian smiled.
"Deal."
When they reached their quarters, Kian asked:
"Do you want to meet in the simulation room in 30 minutes to train?"
Xiaoshu nodded.
"I’ll knock on your door in 30."
"Okay."
Kian entered his chambers and looked around. There was a two-person bed, a bathroom, and his suitcase on the side. Kian walked to his suitcase and looked at the clothes in it. He’ll just get clothes from Versem.
He pulled out something comfortable to fight and new sneakers. Kian couldn’t even buy durable clothes because he had to give money to Tan. All the money he set aside went to him.
Kian put the clothes on the bed and closed the suitcase. He went to the bathroom to look at his reflection. The only difference he could see from the previous universe was his eye color. His previous blue eyes were now gold. Kian was satisfied enough.
He went back to the room and undressed. When he heard a knock he checked who it was with Versem and said:
"Come in."
Tan entered and was stunned to see Kian only wearing a boxer. He glanced at his body, stunned to see abs. Tan felt that he looked stronger than before. He didn’t realize he trained that much before the trial.
He didn’t join him since he’s stronger than him. Tan doesn’t doubt that he’ll make it, while Kian will fail. Even more, now that he is despised by Shaotian.
Thinking about it, he asked:
"What’s going on with you?"
Kian who was about to dress stopped and looked at Tan.
"What are you talking about?"
"I heard you speak to that beta."
Kian said:
"His name is Xiaoshu, and I don’t see what’s wrong with what I said."
Tan said:
"You were disrespectful to Shaotian. You know how much I idolize him. You’re my best friend, how could you speak to him like that? And when I told you to apologize, you didn’t. You know I want to become friends with him, to learn as much as possible. What if he decides not to train me when I rank first? Don’t you care about me?"
Kian forced himself not to laugh. Tan genuinely believes that he’ll take first place, he does not doubt it. In the OGTL despite taking first place, everyone was more impressed with him because of his technique and generosity.
Tan was furious at him when Shaotian praised him. He said that he did it purposefully, so no one would care that he got first place. Tan added that he was a selfish and terrible friend. As usual, Kian profusely apologized and swore that he wouldn’t outshine him anymore.
Tan said that he’ll have to prove to him that he’s really his friend. He only stopped giving him the cold shoulder when they passed the spiritual test, and he saw that he was weaker. He can’t believe how pathetic he was.
Not only is he going to outshine him, but he’ll take first place in every trial. The only reason he was first in the OGTL, was that he was helped by alphas. So, each time he would take half of their points.
Tan knows how to manipulate people, and since he knew that Kian loved him, it was that much easier. Well, he’s not in love with him now. Kian asked confused:
"What does it have to do with you idolizing him?"
Tan said:
"Because you’re my best friend, people will believe I stand for the same things as you do."
Kian said:
"Even if Shaotian..."
Before he could finish, Tan cut him.
"It’s private Bei."
"Since you’ve heard my talk with Xiaoshu, you know that only soldiers have to call him that."
Tan’s eyes darken. Kian continued:
"As I was saying before you cut me, even if Shaotian finds out we are best friends, he won’t be unfair. Aren’t you the one who said that he always does the right thing?"
Kian knows for a fact that he doesn’t. He cheated on his fiancé with Tan. He’s never met such a gross alpha, and that says a lot.
Kian turned around and put on his clothes. Tan was about to order him to apologize but stopped when he saw his clothes.
He looked at it stunned. How could Kian afford to buy the soldier’s keeper? It’s called that way because the clothes protect you against everything.
When it’s cold the clothes heat up and when it’s warm, they cool you down. They can transform into a vest and a parka. They’re also stretchy and it’s the most comfortable clothes you’ll ever wear.
They cost a fortune, and Kian told him that the money he gave him to sign up for Bei Academy was his entire saving. He even has the sneakers that go with it.
Tan asked:
"Kian, how many soldier’s keepers do you have?"
Kian turned around and answered:
"Three. This one plus the two I’ll wear when we’re in that forest."
Tan smiled when he heard that. That’s great, he’ll be able to give him one. They’re the same size, so it’s perfect.
"Can you give me one?"
Kian answered:
"I can’t."
Tan looked at him stunned, then his eyes darkened.
"Why?"
"It was a gift for the trials."
Tan frowned. What kind of friend of Tan can afford to buy him expensive clothes like that? Tan asked:
"Which friend? You and I both know I’m your only friend."
Kian ignored the dig and said:
"My boss at the shop gave them to me. He knew about me signing up for Bei Academy."
Tan nodded and said:
"Let’s go see private Bei, so you can apologize."
That way, he’ll be able to speak to him and see that he’ll never let anyone disrespect him.
Kian said:
"If you’re so worried about your reputation, let’s just keep secret that we know each other. If you think I need to apologize when Shaotian had it out for me, then maybe you’re not my best friend."
Tan took a step forward and said with sad eyes:
"I’m scared because of what happened, you won’t be admitted to Bei Academy. I want us to succeed together, don’t you want that too?"
Kian said:
"Of course I do, that’s why I’ll let my hard work speak for me. But if it’s important for you, I’ll talk to him later."
Tan smiled and hugged him.
"Tell me so we can go together."
Kian pulled back and nodded. Having achieved what he needed, Tan left for his quarters. The only reason he’s being patient with Kian is that he hasn’t finished paying his signing fees.
Once he reached the second trial, he’ll have to make a second payment, and Kian promised he would. Once he paid for everything, he’ll be done with him.
To think he spoke to Shaotian like that when he knows how he feels about him.
