Chapter 237: Magic / 6.24 : The archmage
Atlas looked at Chuxiao and asked:
"Are you ready to admit the truth?"
Chuxiao smiled, it’s too bad Atlas is so insolent, he would’ve liked to have him before ending his life. Oh well. He waved his hand and everyone looked at Atlas who was floating above the thrones shocked.
Yan smiled, he waved his hand discretely and the doors were slammed shut and then sealed. He won’t let anyone interfere. He looked at Atlas thinking that he would be petrified, but he just looked amused.
He followed his eyes and they landed on the twins, they were looking up and they seemed just as amused. He ordered using the mind link:
*Chuxiao end him, can’t you see how he mocks you?*
Chuxiao’s eyes darkened, he unveiled his true face and everyone looked at him shocked. One of the ministers stood up and yelled:
"He is the dark mage!"
Chuxiao turned and smiled.
"I am and none of you will come out of this room alive."
Huang looked at Yan and implored using the mind link:
*Yan it’s not too late to follow the plan.*
Yan looked at him darkly and said out loud:
"I know it’s not too late but we’ll do my plan. This entire empire will bow to me."
Yan’s voice resonated in the entire hall and everyone heard. The minister who had spoken said shocked:
"You’re the one who’s been working with the dark mage."
Yan smiled and threw a ball of fire toward him. It hit him and he screamed in agony as he burned. Atlas waved his hand, and a huge ball of water fell above his head, extinguishing the fire.
Luckily only his robes and one of his legs had caught on fire. Yan and Chuxiao looked at Atlas. Chuxiao waved his hand to throw him against the wall, but Atlas was still levitating above the thrones.
Yan’s hands tightened into fists, Altas clearly cultivated a little before coming here. Still, it’s not enough to defeat him and Chuxiao. He tossed a ball of fire but it hit a force field around him. Chuxiao frowned.
Atlas landed in front of him and he asked:
"What are you?"
Atlas took a step forward so he would be the only one to see the archmage sign. He swallowed and took steps backward until he ran to the doors.
He unsealed the room, but before he could reach the doors, he felt a gust of wind pass through him until it turned into Atlas who was standing in front of him blocking the doors.
Everyone was speechless, the air element can only be mastered by genius. They looked at his forehead and only then did they understand the depth of his power. Yan was in shock, not only is Atlas an archmage, but he mastered all the element abilities.
Huang looked at his son, he admitted in front of everyone that he was going to enslave the imperial city. Atlas smiled at Chuxiao and asked:
"Where are you going? There’s a reward on your head and I’d like to get it."
Chuxiao took a step back and said:
"I had no idea there was an archmage protecting the imperial city, or I wouldn’t have accepted to help Yan and Huang. I’ll go back to where I came from and never set foot here again I swear."
He isn’t stupid, he knows how things work. If a strong mage protects a land, you should never set foot there. It’s part of the unspoken rules of mages. But Atlas is even more powerful than a mage, he is an archmage.
Atlas said:
"I’ll let you go If you tell me what you’ve helped them with."
Chuxiao immediately admitted:
"I gave them poison to kill every man from the imperial family, the empress and the empress dowager."
"So you’re the one who gave them the poison to kill my sons and my daughter-in-law?"
Everyone turned around and gaped at the empress dowager. How is she alive? Huang and Yan looked at Ling Saifei just as stunned. Things are only getting worst. Yan looked at Atlas, that son of a bitch is an archmage, that’s why he was so confident in curing her.
The empress dowager walked the aisle to Chuxiao and everyone bowed as she passed. When she reached him Chuxiao felt his heartbeat quicken. What the fuck? How many fuckin mages are there in this palace?
He could feel the power emanating from her, no wonder she didn’t directly die from the poison. Chuxiao said:
"I only did what they asked me to."
The empress dowager smiled sweetly, then she lifted her hand he felt the air being pulled out of his lungs. Chuxiao looked at her wide-eyed as he felt the air leaving his body. He fell to his knees, tears were running down his face while he heaved.
When he had no more oxygen in him he collapsed. The empress dowager looked at his body with disdain. Atlas tossed a ball of fire and it only took ten seconds for Chuxiao to turn into dust.
The entire hall was already scared of the empress dowager, but after seeing that she is a mage with air ability they were petrified. The empress dowager gave a grateful nodded at Atlas and he nodded back. They walked back to the thrones and took their seat.
When the four of them looked at Yan and Huang everyone did the same. Yan looked at his father in fear. Huang knew that there is nothing they can do, they are bound to die.
He walked to the thrones and said:
"I was the one responsible, not Yan. He only did what I ordered him to."
Atlas asked:
"Are you stupid? Do you truly believe I’m going to let him walk out of this hall alive?"
Atlas pulled his hand and Yan was forcefully pushed next to his father, and the two fell to their knees.
Atlas looked at Yan.
"You killed me when I was about to give you that esse beast. Then you went back and lied. Even with me gone you still wouldn’t let my family alone, I’m well aware of your plan to frame them as the traitors who worked with the dark mage."
Yan and Huang looked at Atlas stunned, he’s known everything all along. Yan’s eyes moistened and he said to the twins:
"I just wanted you to love me and the imperial city to see that I’m a better mage than Atlas was."
Yitian said:
"We have loved Atlas since he saved us at Beast Valley a year ago, you had no chance."
"And you want our love when you slaughtered our entire family? Are you insane?"
Yan looked at them wide-eyed. They met in Beast Valley before, that’s why they are already so close. He never had a chance with them, how could he have been so stupid? He looked down crying in silence.
Huang felt heartbroken for his son, he caressed his back. They’re bound to die anyway. When Yan heard a gargling sound coming from his father, he looked at him shocked. He yelled:
"Father!"
