Chapter 201: ABO / 5.12 : Truth be told
Elwyn walked down the stairs and entered the dining room. He sat around the table on his father’s right and looked at where Atlas would usually seat.
"Atlas isn’t hungry?"
Mircea said:
"He’s staying at Damian’s house during the time he uses Cian Cube’s new facilities. He called me at lunch, he sounded so excited. He even said that Damian got him the motion sensor 3000."
Mircea was surprised when Atlas called him but extremely happy. Even if he knew before that Atlas had a crush on Jacob he never told him anything about it but today he was open and he liked that.
He likes that Atlas feels that he can come to him and share his life. Atlas has always made him feel as though he didn’t need him as a mother. He needed Atlas more than he needed him since he brings a lot to the company and hates that.
He’s his mother he should be the one on top, not Atlas but he feels that the balance is tipping on his side. He likes that Atlas needs him and he’s glad he found someone he likes.
Though he is worried, he doesn’t want him to be heartbroken. Mircea thought and his eyes shone brightly. If Atlas was heartbroken he would need him even more.
He just wants Atlas to understand that it goes both ways but before he never had the opportunity to show him but now he finally can.
Elwyn’s hand tightened into a fist. He can’t believe Atlas was invited to stay at his future father-in-law’s house. He is so angry he can’t stand it. It’s a good thing he’ll deal with him.
He asked Ludek:
"Father when will the demo for Extinct be released?"
Before the game is sold worldwide the company gives it to a few influencers as a focus group to demo. Once they do they post a review and a few days later the game is released for sale.
He can’t wait for them to try it. Ludek answered:
"Production will be done tomorrow morning and we’ll send the game to the focus group that afternoon then release it a week later. I need to speak to Damian since we still haven’t talked terms. This is by far the best game Atlas has ever created so I know that we’ll sell it for a good price to Cian Cube."
Elwyn nodded with a smile. Those poor influencers will have the worst surprise and once they post what happened after they played Extinct everyone will blame Atlas.
Nye Games has a focus group made of the most famous video game players on youtube. Each of them has at least 10 000 000 subscribers.
Ludek asked:
"How far along are you with your study?"
"I’ve made a lot of progress."
Mircea said:
"Sweety we can get you a teacher if you want instead of learning on your own. Not everyone can learn the way Atlas did."
Elwyn’s heartbeat quickened in anger, he’s sick of always being compared to fuckin Atlas. He smiled.
"Sure I’d like that since Atlas has refused to help me anymore."
Mircea said:
"Atlas has a lot to do you know that, he always works on projects and he is working on the most important yet. He already helped you so you shouldn’t be ungrateful Elwyn."
Elwyn said:
"I’m sorry I just want to make you proud."
Ludek said:
"You can take your time learning Atlas is always going to be there to help you run the company. He even told me that he was happy that now he has someone who can help him. He truly wants to make this work so you should show him that you want the same."
Mircea asked:
"When did he say that?"
"This afternoon when he called me to let me know that he’ll be staying at Damian’s house."
Mircea smiled.
"Did you hear how excited he sounded on the phone?"
Ludek chuckled.
"I did it’s good that he’s happy again."
Elwyn looked at his parents with narrowed eyes. When they decided to toss Atlas out of the house he thought that it was because they didn’t love him but he was deadly wrong.
Their problem was just that Atlas was rebelling, it’s clear as day that they love Atlas, especially his mother. Even if they love Atlas they love the company more so if they have to lose a little money for them to hate him then so it shall be.
It’s the only way that they’ll only feel hatred for Atlas. He can’t believe how Atlas managed to get them in the palm of his hands in a matter of days. Before he was the one who controlled them.
What angers him the most is that Atlas isn’t even doing this on purpose. He’s become more open and happy since he met Damian and their parents like that he comes to them.
It makes them feel like Atlas hasn’t everything under control and that he still needs them because they know that without Atlas the company wouldn’t be as successful. They just want to get the upper hand on him.
It’s obvious he saw it as soon as he came into the house. He’ll be done with Atlas in a matter of days so he better enjoy his time at Damian’s house.
Atlas sat on Damian’s right and smiled at Jacob and he smiled back. He asked:
"Don’t you feel lonely in this huge estate with just the two of you?"
Jacob smiled.
"It is, I used to have a dog and the house was more lively."
"What kind of dog?"
Jacob answered:
"A west highland terrier."
"Who got you the dog?"
"My grandmother."
At that answer, Atlas glanced at Damian quickly. He asked Jacob:
"Why did he choose that breed?"
Jacob opened his mouth but nothing came and he realized that he has no idea why he choose that breed. He never asked since he loved it, it reminded him of this favorite cartoon when he was younger.
He looked at his father when he answered:
"He knew that he loved the cartoon Terry the terrier since he would watch it every morning on Saturday when it was on."
Jacob looked at his father surprised that he remembered then down thinking. After a few seconds, he looked at his father incredulously and said:
"You’re the one who got me the dog."
Atlas leaned back on his chair with a smile and looked at Damian who asked:
"What?"
Jacob said:
"Terry the terrier started airing two weeks after you came back and grandmother went to take care of grandpa at that time. He only came back to see us a few months later and he got me the dog before he visited. Why would you say it came from him?"
Damian simply answered:
"I didn’t think you would take it if you knew it came from me."
Jacob looked at his father stunned then asked:
"Why did you always work from home on Saturday? And why would you sit in the living room while you could’ve worked upstairs in your office when you knew I would spend the day watching cartoons?"
Now that he thinks about it doesn’t make any sense. He would’ve been more comfortable in his office without hearing his cartoons. He could feel him looking up from his work every once in a while like he was checking on him.
How did he not notice and how did he not figure out that the dog came from him? When his father gave it to him and said that it came from grandma he even said that he named him terry.
He never thought much about it when he watched the carton with the dog at his side since he was a kid and believed what his father said but now that he is he feels stupid.
Damian said:
"We only ate dinner together during the weekend since you were in school and I was at work late so I thought I would stay home during the weekend."
Jacob looked at his father discouraged. Why doesn’t he tell him anything? Does he hate him or does he not? He asked frustrated:
"Why can’t you just tell me things? Why is it so hard for you to talk to me?"
Damian felt his heart clench when he saw how upset his son was. He swallowed with difficulty.
"Even if I were to say something nothing would come of it. It wouldn’t change the fact that I abandoned you and that you resent and hate me for it."
He feels guilty about living abroad for the first 8 years of his son’s life but he couldn’t stay in China anymore. Every day he was on the news and he was followed everywhere by reporters and paparazzi.
He was losing his mind, the person who’s been at his side since he was a baby abused him and then made it known to the whole world and it was too much to handle. He left without having ever met his son and came back 8 years later.
As soon as he saw him he fell in love with him and was overtaken by guilt for abandoning his son. He could feel Jacob’s anger and resentment and it’s not like he can blame him.
He thought that he would at least do everything to make him happy and help his dream come true even if he didn’t love him.
After everything that happened he didn’t feel period but the first time he felt affection after that was when he saw his son. he convinced himself that he felt nothing for him either and it made things easier.
