Chapter 637: Word spreads quickly
Alex watched Luther disappear into the dark fracture in space with an expression as cold and hard as steel.
Then silence fell.
Though that silence only accounted for the lack of sound in the vacuum of space, in the world around Alex, Bugonia system was anything but silent.
The system was still drowning in war. Distant battles shook ripples through space. Ships burned, countless lives still blinking out every second beneath the shadow of greed, ambition, and betrayal all across the system.
All because some unknown power behind the scenes plotted the whole thing.
Yet around Alex himself, a strange stillness settled.
As though the universe itself instinctively understood that approaching him now was a very poor decision.
He only remained motionless for only a few breaths though.
Then his Spatial Perceptioion erupted outward.
Now that he had advanced to A- rank, his range extended far beyond Bugonia.
The battered star system unfolded in his mind with far greater clarity than before. Every major life signature within billions upon billions of kilometres became a point of awareness.
Over half of the alien fleets had taken each other out by now, the other half still out searching for more prey every second.
His gaze slowly shifted.
The first thing he checked was Althea.
She was still alive, still fighting, and still some distance away from his current position. Her aura flared brightly as she clashed with another Variant class S tier near the remains of a torn apart mothership – of which Alex was relieved to find out wasn’t the Jewel.
Even this far away, he could sense that she was under pressure.
Not losing, but not comfortable to relax either.
Good. That meant she was still doing her job.
He moved on to check the locations of all the other S tiers still remaining in the system, and wasn’t too surprised that nearly all of them were still alive aside from the ones he and Althea had taken care of.
After all, the majority of deaths in every war came from the lower ranked cannon fodder on the ships. S tiers might’ve fought each other, but both sides held back from going too far against their opponents.
They valued their lives too much to risk them in a minor battle like this. Which was why he was still surprised now that Luthor had agreed to help so readily.
He was also an S tier, a King class one at that, which just made it all the more unbelievable. ’Though it does make his words more trustworthy.’
Knowing that Luthor paraded himself as more of a neutral-good person, it helped his case that he so readily entered such a dangerous place as the Void realm even for someone of his rank.
It made no sense for someone like that to risk entering the Void for a stranger just to collect a future favour in return – unless he actually saw the potential in Alex.
But whatever the reason, the fact he wasn’t all talk was good enough for him.
Still, he would never place his full trust in another stranger, especially such a strong Alien at that.
Luthor had no reason to lie about Mira being alive, if he wanted to manipulate Alex, there were far easier ways to go about it – so Alex floated in the void of space patiently to hear the good news when Luthor returned.
A few more minutes passed, which for beings of their power was quite a long time, making Alex a bit worried.
But then a flicker of movement at the edge of his perception made him turn slightly.
However, his face sank when he realised it still wasn’t Luthor.
Three high rank Alien combtatants were heading towards this sector of Bugonia at speed, likely drawn over by the lingering traces of power from Luthor’s entry to the void. They were cautious, keeping their distance from the largest battlefields while approaching through a field of broken debris.
A pair of A tiers, likely not just Ordinary class, and behind them an S tier.
Alex’s expression did not change despite being outnumbered 3 to 1.
For someone like him, who had power on the same level as Luthor right now, being outnumbered like this wasn’t a big deal at all.
He lifted one hand, and the three life signatures froze in place as if time itself had stopped for them.
Then space around them began to fold inward with merciless precision.
By the time their terrified minds fully understood what happened, their bodies had already been crushed into ruined scraps of armour and flesh.
Alex lowered his hand in the next instant, already shifting his attention away from that area of space.
He didn’t care whether they were planning on attacking him or not – the simple fact remained that they were in this system alone. Although he respected Luthor after hearing his story, Alex only gave him the time to actually explain himself because he wouldn’t have been able to take care of him as quickly as he did everyone else.
If Luthor were weaker, he would have unfortunately ended up like most of the other S tiers in the Bugonia system...
Moments continued to pass, and Alex continued to keep watch alone.
He stood in the void, with his swift dispatch of the three high rank combatants sending a stark warning to the rest of the star system to stear clear of his area.
In the time since he’d arrived, rumours of his earlier kills had clearly spread – he wasn’t the only one who could sense the entire system after all, not with over a dozen S tiers still there.
Several fleets had already changed course the moment they detected the death of those three Aliens.
Smart.
Unfortunately not everybody was smart.
A hidden warship of the Lux tried to skim along the far edge of his area, and upon sensing who it belonged to, Alex destroyed it without even glancing in their direction.
Soon, Althea’s voice came over to his mind from across the system.
"Alex, you lied to me! I said to send me toward the strongest being in this system, yet you just sent me to one at random!"
She was clearly pissed, though Alex couldn’t care less.
"If you want to be sent straight to your death, be my guest, since I just happened to meet the strongest, and his strength was on par with Farnes’."
Althea fell silent.
Crackle!
And then finally, space started to stir around him.
’Is Luthor finally back?’
