Chapter 66: First Morning/Love Song

The following morning, the couple woke to the soft golden light of dawn filtering through the sheer curtains of their master bedroom.

The villa was quiet, peaceful—the only sounds the gentle chirping of birds in the garden and the distant hum of the city waking to life. The four-poster bed cradled them in warmth, the silk sheets cool against their skin, the heavy quilt keeping them cozy.

Gabriel stirred first, his eyes fluttering open. The first thing he saw was Lilith’s silver hair spread across the pillow, her face relaxed and peaceful in sleep. Her small horns caught the morning light, their surfaces gleaming like polished obsidian.

He watched her for a moment, a soft smile playing on his lips. Even after all this time, he never tired of this—of waking up beside her, of seeing her vulnerable and unguarded, of knowing that she was his and he was hers.

He reached out and gently brushed a strand of silver hair from her face.

Her eyes fluttered open, crimson meeting gold.

"Good morning, hubby," she murmured, her voice still thick with sleep.

"Good morning, babe," he replied, leaning in to press a soft kiss to her forehead.

They lay there for a while, tangled in each other, the morning light growing brighter around them. The silence was comfortable, filled only with the warmth of their bodies and the steady rhythm of their breathing.

Finally, Lilith stretched, her arms reaching above her head, her body arching against the sheets.

"Breakfast?" she asked.

"Breakfast," Gabriel agreed readily.

They rose from the bed and dressed in comfortable, casual clothes—Gabriel in a simple linen shirt and loose trousers, Lilith in a soft cotton dress that fell to her knees. They padded barefoot to the kitchen, their footsteps soft on the polished oak floors.

The kitchen was spacious and bright, with large windows that overlooked the garden. The morning sun streamed in, casting warm golden rays across the marble countertops and the large wooden table at the center of the room.

Lilith opened the pantry, her eyes scanning the ingredients they had stocked the day before. "What do you feel like?"

"Something simple," Gabriel said, tying an apron around his waist. "Eggs. Toast. Maybe some fruit."

"Sounds perfect."

They moved around the kitchen in perfect synchronization, their movements fluid and practiced. Gabriel cracked eggs into a bowl, whisking them with a pinch of salt and pepper. Lilith sliced bread and arranged it on a baking tray, drizzling it with olive oil.

He sautéed mushrooms and tomatoes in butter, their aroma filling the kitchen. She prepared a small bowl of fresh berries—strawberries, blueberries, raspberries—their colors bright and inviting.

They worked side by side, their bodies brushing occasionally, their hands touching when they reached for the same utensil. They did not speak much, but their silence was comfortable, filled with the simple joy of sharing a task.

Gabriel poured two cups of coffee, the rich, dark liquid steaming in the cool morning air. He handed one to Lilith, their fingers brushing as she took it.

"Thank you," she said softly.

"Always," he replied.

They sat at the table by the window, their plates filled with food, the morning sun warming their faces. The eggs were fluffy and golden, the toast crispy and warm, the mushrooms and tomatoes savory and rich. The berries were sweet and fresh, their juices bursting on their tongues.

They ate in comfortable silence, sharing bites of each other’s food. Gabriel fed Lilith a strawberry, and she fed him a piece of toast. They sipped their coffee, their eyes meeting over the rim of their cups.

The garden outside was alive with color—the flowering bushes, the climbing roses, the gentle fountain that bubbled and sparkled in the sunlight.

"This is perfect," Lilith said softly, her eyes sweeping across the room, the garden, the man beside her.

"It is," Gabriel agreed. "This is what we worked for. This peace."

She reached across the table and took his hand. "I’m glad we’re here. Together."

He squeezed her hand gently. "So am I."

They finished their breakfast and cleared the table, washing the dishes together in comfortable silence. The water was warm, the soap fragrant, and their hands brushed as they passed plates and cups.

After breakfast, they changed into their swimwear—Gabriel in simple dark trunks, Lilith in a sleek white one-piece that hugged her curves. They walked through the villa and out into the back garden, the morning sun warm on their skin.

The pool was sparkling, its surface reflecting the blue sky above. The water was crystal clear, revealing the smooth stones at the bottom. The pergola draped with climbing roses cast dappled shadows across the terrace.

Lilith dipped her toe into the water, then pulled back with a slight shiver. "It’s cool."

"Refreshing," Gabriel corrected, stepping past her and diving in.

He surfaced, his golden hair slicked back, a grin on his face. "Come on. It’s perfect."

Lilith rolled her eyes but smiled. She stepped to the edge and dove in, her body cutting through the water with graceful precision.

She surfaced beside him, her silver hair floating around her like a halo.

"Not bad," she admitted.

"Told you."

They swam together, their movements synchronized, their bodies gliding through the water. The pool was large enough for laps, but they had no interest in exercise—only in each other.

Gabriel floated on his back, gazing up at the sky. Lilith swam over and rested her hands on his chest, her face hovering above his.

"What are you thinking about?" she asked.

"About how lucky I am," he said simply.

She leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to his lips. "You’re not the only lucky one."

They continued swimming, their laughter echoing across the garden. Lilith splashed Gabriel, and he retaliated, sending a wave of water over her head. She dove beneath the surface and emerged behind him, wrapping her arms around his neck.

"Gotcha," she murmured in his ear.

"Got me," he agreed.

Eventually, they climbed out of the pool and settled on the terrace, stretched out on the sun-warmed stone. The pergola shaded them from the full force of the sun, but the warmth was still pleasant on their damp skin.

They lay side by side, their bodies close, their hands intertwined. The garden was quiet, the only sounds the gentle bubbling of the fountain and the distant chirping of birds.

Lilith’s eyes drifted closed, a contented smile on her face.

"Could this day get any better?" she murmured.

Gabriel turned his head to look at her, her silver hair fanned out across the stone, her body relaxed and at peace.

"Yes," he said softly. "It could always get better. Because every day with you is better than the last."

She opened one eye and looked at him. "You’re going to make me cry."

"I’d never want to make you cry. Unless they’re tears of joy."

She laughed softly and shifted closer, her head resting on his chest. He wrapped his arms around her, holding her close.

As they lay there in the warmth of the morning sun, their bodies still damp from the pool, the garden peaceful and still around them, Gabriel began to sing.

His voice was natural—not enhanced by magic, not amplified by power. Just his voice, raw and honest, rising softly into the quiet air. It was rich and warm, carrying a gentle melody that seemed to have been born from the very moment itself.

The song was for her. Only for her.

"In the silence of the morning light,

I found you standing in my sight.

A silver flame in a world of gray,

You chased the shadows all away."

Lilith’s breath caught. Her crimson eyes, half-closed, opened fully. She looked up at him, her gaze soft and questioning.

He continued, his voice unwavering.

"Through endless skies and oceans deep,

Across the worlds we dared to leap.

From death to life, from dark to dawn,

In every life, you are my home."

The melody rose, tender and aching.

"And when the stars begin to fade,

And all the worlds begin to sway,

I’ll hold you close, I’ll hold you tight,

My love for you will never die."

Gabriel looked down at her, his golden eyes meeting her crimson ones. His voice dropped to a whisper, yet still carried the depth of his soul.

"You are the light I chose to keep,

The dream I’ll hold when I’m asleep.

Through every tear and every smile,

I’ll love you through every mile."

The last notes faded, dissolving into the warm morning air. The garden was silent, the only sound the gentle bubbling of the fountain and the distant chirping of birds.

Lilith’s eyes were wet. Her hand came up to rest on his chest, over his heart.

"That was beautiful," she whispered, her voice trembling slightly.

"Only because it’s for you," he replied.

She leaned up and kissed him—a soft, tender kiss that tasted of salt and sweetness and all the unspoken words between them. Her fingers curled into his shirt, holding him close.

He kissed her back, his arms wrapping around her, pulling her into the warmth of his embrace.

When they finally parted, her cheeks were flushed, her eyes bright.

"I love you, Gabriel," she said, her voice filled with conviction.

"I love you too, Lilith," he replied, his voice just as certain. "Always."

She rested her head on his chest, listening to the steady rhythm of his heart. The sun continued its slow climb across the sky, the garden wrapped around them like a cocoon of warmth and peace.

They lay there, tangled in each other, the song still echoing softly in their hearts.

And in that moment, the world outside their villa did not exist.

There was only them. Only this. Only love.
