Chapter 28: Chapter 28
Kyra’s POV
The private jet’s engines hummed softly as I stared out the window, the clouds below us mirroring the storm brewing in my chest. Kieran’s cedar and musk scent filled the cabin, an intoxicating reminder of last night’s confession that had my wolf spirit, Sylvia, pacing restlessly.
"Stop pretending you don’t feel the pull," Sylvia huffed when I deliberately avoided looking at Kieran’s broad shoulders stretching against his tailored shirt. "His wolf has been calling to us since we boarded."
A sudden weight against my ear made me jump. Kieran had slipped an earbud in without asking, his fingers brushing my cheek with deliberate slowness.
Soft piano music filled my right ear as he leaned back, his ice-blue eyes glinting with satisfaction.
"Sleep," he commanded, his Alpha tone making my spine straighten instinctively. "I’ll wake you for dinner."
Sylvia growled at his high-handedness, but exhaustion won out. When I woke hours later, my cheek was pressed against Kieran’s shoulder, his warmth seeping into my skin.
I heard someone giggle, so I lifted my face and found a flight stewardess pouring wine into Kieran’s glass. I pressed my lips together as I realized what was going on in her mind.
"Are you a newlywed, ma’am, sir?"
My forehead creased as I stared blankly at the woman. She immediately bowed her head and walked away after seeing my reaction. I faced Kieran after the flight stewardess left.
"She thought we’re a couple, Kieran."
He stared at me languidly. "Don’t make it a big deal."
"What? We’re not a couple, Kieran. I think you forgot the fact that I’m your stepsister..."
He gazed into my eyes with a creased forehead. "I think you forgot what I said last night, stepsister. We’re not blood-related."
I gasped. "Still..."
"You should know that the more you talk about our complicated relationship, the more I’m tempted to kiss you."
My jaw dropped. "W-What?"
He glanced at my lips before locking eyes with me again. "I made myself clear last night, Kyra. I don’t care about the rules. And if you’re worried about your father, don’t even think about it. He knows."
"Huh? He knows what?"
His smirk was pure predator. "Alpha Darian knows I intend to make you mine. He’s rather...enthusiastic about the union. We’re not going to end up like naughty step-siblings."
I gritted my teeth as I glared at him. "I won’t get naughty with you."
A shiver ran down my spine as the corner of his lips curled up slowly. "Are you sure about that?"
"Kieran!" I growled at him.
He just smirked at me again, which annoyed me even more. I averted my gaze from him and closed my eyes. Sleeping was better than talking to this moody devil.

I was wearing a black evening dress with killer heels. The slit of my dress on the right side exposed half of my leg. The cleavage was low, but not enough to expose my breasts. I grabbed my pouch and went downstairs. We were in my family’s villa. Kieran and I had agreed to stay here while we were in this country.
Kieran was waiting for me at the end of the stairs. He looked so dashing in his black suit, messy hair, and serious expression.
I pressed my lips together. I felt like his confession had affected me, and I was starting to appreciate his physical features.
He offered his arm to me and I immediately held onto him. He accompanied me to the car. We sat in the backseat as the driver started the engine and drove off carefully.
When we arrived at the venue, I was shocked by the huge crowd attending the party. Bitterness crept into my heart as I looked around. Our wedding before had been private, but this? This was just an engagement party, but I thought some of the biggest personalities were here. I even saw some people from the media.
What do I expect? Nathan was in love with that woman. Of course he’d publicize this ’important’ event.
"Look at them," Sylvia sneered as Sophia floated through the crowd in a white dress too virginal for a wolf who’d stolen another’s mate.
My heart raced when I met familiar brown eyes looking at me. He was standing a few meters away, surrounded by people. I suddenly felt my throat go dry as I whispered his name in my mind. Nathan...
I flinched when a warm hand touched my back. I lifted my face and looked at Kieran. His expression was dark and he was also looking at Nathan.
"Kyra!"
I almost rolled my eyes. Sophia was smiling from ear to ear as she dragged Nathan in my direction.
Kieran’s hand burned against my lower back as he sent me a mind link. "Breathe, little wolf."
"I’m glad you came, Kyra," Sophia said with a fake smile, glancing at Kieran beside me. "Is he your boyfriend? You look good together. I wonder how he fell in love with you. Did you... you know, leave personal things..."
I gritted my teeth and looked at her blankly. "I appreciate that you’re very curious about me, Sophia."
Her face went blank immediately. She glanced at Kieran and then Nathan before looking at me again. For the nth time, she faked a smile. "I just want to thank you for taking care of Nathan while I was away. I really appreciate it."
The corner of my lips lifted. "It’s nothing, Sophia. Congratulations on your successful career and your successful relationship, by the way. Your plans worked out."
I knew the atmosphere around us was heating up but I didn’t care. From the corner of my eye, I saw Nathan staring at my face, but I didn’t give him a single glance.
Sophia’s pupils dilated as she eyed Kieran—a wolf recognizing a more dangerous predator. "Is this your new mate? How... unexpected. I hope you’ll take care of her. She’s very important to my future mate because they’re good friends. I just wonder if you know that they had a relationship before. I guess lust really is powerful."
I chuckled without humor. "I know, right? He enjoyed every single moment with me because I’m good at... everything."
Sophia looked furious now. She wrapped her arm around Nathan, obviously triggered. I raised an eyebrow and grabbed a juice from the server who walked by, but Sophia laughed and stopped the server. She grabbed two glasses of liquor and handed one to me.
"Juice is boring, Kyra. Why don’t we drink and enjoy my grand engagement? Nathan’s family is so excited about this event, especially Grandma. Let’s toast?"
I clenched my jaw. She would really do everything to provoke me.
Kieran took the glass of liquor Sophia was handing me and drank it in one gulp. He looked at her coldly and spoke, "Liquor isn’t very good for a pregnant she-wolf."
My lips parted as I slowly turned to Kieran. Shocked, I shifted my gaze to Nathan, and he was looking at me with the same stunned expression.
What have you done, Kieran?
