Chapter 203: Chapter 203
Kyra’s POV
After meeting with Kieran, we returned to the Nightfall Pack house.
"At least now we know who’s behind Connor," Nathan said as he parked the car in front of our home. "This Dark Crown sounds dangerous, but at least we have a direction."
I nodded in agreement. "Yes, and with Kieran’s help, we finally have a chance to take Connor down."
"The leads from Matt are crucial too. If we could find Connor’s secret office..." Nathan paused, looking at me intently. "Do you think Matt will help us?"
"He will. Connor imprisoned him and possibly hurt Emily, after all." I squeezed Nathan’s hand reassuringly.
Nathan lifted my hand to his lips and kissed it gently. "Yes. Soon this will all be over, and we can have a peaceful life."
Security personnel were stationed throughout the house, so I knew we were safe. Even Anna, Yara had their own guards assigned by Nathan.
After taking a quick shower, I lay down on the bed beside Nathan. He immediately wrapped his arms around my waist and buried his face against my neck. I smiled as I rested my leg over his and hugged him close.
"Goodnight, mommy and our baby," he whispered, kissing my hair softly.
I smiled and snuggled deeper into his chest. "Goodnight, daddy."
We slept peacefully that night. It seemed strange that despite the chaos surrounding us and the threats to our lives, I found myself sleeping soundly in Nathan’s arms. Perhaps it was because I knew he was right beside me, and no matter what happened, he would keep us safe.
The next morning, my peaceful sleep was interrupted by loud knocking on our door. Nathan, who had been sleeping beside me, immediately sat up and went to answer it.
"Alpha, Emily is missing," the guard announced.
The bad news jolted me completely awake. I quickly got out of bed and stood behind Nathan.
"What do you mean?" Nathan asked sharply.
The guard lowered his gaze. "I apologize, Alpha. She sneaked out last night while everyone was sleeping. She apparently thought our guards were sent by her father to imprison her, so she escaped. Matt tried to stop her, but she knocked him unconscious before fleeing."
I pressed my hand against my forehead and sucked in a breath. "She’s lost her memory and doesn’t remember we’re protecting her. She must be terrified."
Nathan quickly pulled on his clothes. "Send more men to find her immediately. Search the entire city."
"Yes, Alpha. We’ve already begun searching, but there are no leads so far."
"We need to look for her ourselves. Emily is unstable right now, and if Connor’s people find her..."
"I know." Nathan took my hand firmly. "We’ll go together."
As we were driving away, a thought suddenly hit me. "Wait, we should tell Kieran about this."
Nathan frowned. "Why?"
"Emily and Kieran have known each other for years. In this world, apart from her father, Kieran might be the only one who truly understands Emily’s past. If she’s lost her memory and wants to go somewhere she feels safe, Kieran might know where she’d go."
Nathan considered this for a moment, then nodded. "You’re right. Call him."
I quickly dialed Kieran’s number. He answered after a few rings.
"Kyra, what’s wrong?" His voice sounded alert.
"Kieran, Emily is missing. She’s lost her memory and thought our guards were sent by her father to imprison her, so she ran away."
There was silence on the other end for a few seconds. "She doesn’t remember recent events?"
"No, she only remembers her past. She mentioned her dead fiancé."
I heard Kieran sigh heavily before responding. "Go home and rest. I think I know where she might be."
Hope surged through me. "Really? You know where she is?"
Nathan glanced at me, and I nodded encouragingly.
"I have a few ideas," Kieran replied. "But don’t wander around, even with bodyguards. It’s not safe, especially with your pregnancy."
"Okay. Please update us when you find her."
"I will."
After ending the call, I immediately relayed my conversation with Kieran to Nathan. He looked relieved too.
"If Kieran has leads, let’s head home and wait for news," Nathan said, starting the car.
However, as we drove back, one of our tires suddenly exploded. I screamed in panic as the car swerved wildly. We would have rolled over if not for another vehicle blocking our path.
The airbags deployed effectively, protecting us from impact. I realized the car that had blocked us was one of our security detail vehicles. Another car stopped behind us—more bodyguards.
"Kyra, are you okay?" Nathan immediately cupped my face in his hands.
I nodded. "Yes, I’m—"
A bullet shattered the windshield and embedded itself in the driver’s seat headrest. I screamed and ducked down instinctively.
My eyes widened in fear as I looked at Nathan. He immediately covered my body with his own.
I grabbed his shirt, pulling him lower. "Nathan!"
"I’m fine," he assured me.
I shook my head and looked around anxiously. Our bodyguards were outside, scanning the area for the shooter.
"ON THE BUILDING ROOFTOP!" one guard shouted, and half of them took off in pursuit.
"Alpha, Luna, are you both alright?" another guard called.
Nathan opened the passenger door. Despite my fear, I followed him out. Nathan gripped my wrist firmly and positioned me between himself and the car for protection.
He looked down at me with concern. "Are you really okay? You weren’t hurt? The baby?"
His hand moved to my stomach, the warmth of his palm somehow calming my frayed nerves.
"We’re both fine," I assured him.
He sighed and nodded. "If they catch the shooter, we won’t turn him over to the authorities or the Alpha Council. Those institutions might be infiltrated by Dark Crown. My men will interrogate him."
I nodded in agreement. This was the best approach, since we no longer knew who to trust.
