Chapter 140: Chapter 140

Kyra’s POV

"Sara..."

The way Caleb said her name caught my attention immediately. There was history in that single word. His usual confident demeanor seemed to crumble before my eyes, revealing a vulnerability I’d never seen from him before.

His eyes were fixed on her with unmistakable gentleness. They knew each other. But how?

Sara’s gaze traveled past me to find Caleb standing behind me, and I watched as her expression transformed.

The hospital room felt different now. I could tell there was something between them that they weren’t saying.

Caleb cleared his throat. His hand moved between my arm and waist. "Kyra, I have to go."

I nodded. I still felt suspicious about something. "Thanks for visiting."

When he walked past Sara, I could see the tension clearly. She looked away from him on purpose. Her husband stared at Caleb with anger. Caleb looked at Sara one more time before he left.

This confirmed what I was thinking.

After the door closed, Sara spoke. "Is she my niece?"

I felt angry. I moved closer to Snow’s bed, where my daughter was sleeping. Ana stood nearby. She kept looking at me and then at Sara and her husband. She was waiting for me to tell her what to do. Emily stood on the other side of the bed. She was protecting Snow too.

"What are you doing here?" I asked.

"We came to visit, Kyra. She’s my niece. I’m worried about her." She did not sound like she cared.

"I don’t believe you. If you want something, just tell me."

Her fake smile disappeared. She lifted her chin. "Make Wes the Vice President of the company."

I looked at her husband. His face looked dark and mean. This was so stupid that I started laughing. Sara and Wes looked angry at me for laughing.

"I’m not joking, Kyra," Sara said loudly. "Make Wes the Vice President or you will regret it!"

I smiled. Sylvia made me feel confident. "I wonder why Connor didn’t make him Vice President. Are you fighting with each other?"

"That’s none of your business!" She was shouting now. "I want you to do what I’m telling you or—"

"Or what?" I walked closer to her. I wanted to scare her. My wolf was getting angry, and I knew my eyes were changing color.

"I don’t listen to people who talk like this."

"I am not asking! I’m telling you to obey me!"

"And if I don’t?"

She smiled in an ugly way. "Everyone will know what kind of whore you are. Sleeping with three men at the same time? I knew you were fake. You’re playing with Caleb, Nathan Anderson, and Kieran Carver! You greedy bitch!"

I felt angry. Sylvia was snarling inside me. She wanted to hurt this woman. I walked toward Sara slowly like I was hunting her. She tried to look brave, but I could smell that she was getting scared.

"You don’t know anything, Sara," I said quietly. My voice sounded dangerous. "You’re just a wife who does what her husband tells her. You don’t even know what’s happening in your own family. You should learn who people really are before you try to threaten me."

"You don’t get to tell me what to do! I am still your aunt!"

"You are, but I won’t let you ruin my life and my mother’s things."

"You think I’m ruining this family? I’m not! I deserve something because I was the one who took care of Mom when she was dying!"

I lifted my chin. I felt sorry for her but also disgusted. I understood family, but this woman’s love was twisted by greed.

"You’re lucky you got to see your mother before she died. You’re lucky you took care of her. If I could have done the same with my mother, I would never ask for anything back."

She laughed in a bitter way. "Now you’re making me look like the bad person. I took care of her. It’s normal for me to be hurt and angry that she didn’t leave me any property. Instead, she gave everything to the child she lost long ago!"

I could sense real pain under her anger. I knew she felt betrayed. From what I’d learned about the Foster family, Sara wasn’t as mean as Wes, Connor, or Diane. But something was still missing from the story.

"I lost my mother the same day I lost all rights to my parents’ things, Kyra!" Her voice almost broke. "Can you blame me for trying to get what I deserve after everything? You’ve heard things about me, but not the whole story. This family has many problems, and I know everything!"

I spoke more softly. Maybe this was a chance. "Then why don’t you help me, Sara? Help me find out who killed my mom."

She laughed. Tears came to her eyes. "Help you and then what? After you get everything, you’ll throw me away? I’m not stupid, Kyra. Just give me or my husband a job in the company, and I’ll never bother you again. That’s all I want. I know it isn’t hard. It won’t cost you money."

"This isn’t about money," I said. "This is about justice. Someone murdered my parents. You don’t know how it feels to learn that while trying to fix my own life."

She shook her head. "Don’t tell me about struggle. You don’t know the pain I’ve been through... And I didn’t come here to fight about who had a harder life. I came as your family, wanting to be part of my parents’ company. Connor stopped me from that, and if you do the same, I’ll make you regret it."

Before I could say anything, she turned and walked out. Her husband followed her.

I breathed out slowly. I rubbed my nose.

Ana and Emily were watching me, but I barely saw them. I felt strange, guilty but also careful. Part of me understood Sara’s pain. I knew she felt treated unfairly. But I couldn’t let someone with so much anger into the company. It would be like letting a hurt lion into my home.

I already had enough enemies. I couldn’t let another one live under my roof, even if she was family.
