Chapter 130: Chapter 130
Kyra’s POV
I stood on the balcony watching Snow eat her strawberry ice cream with Ana. She looked so happy. It was different from all the chaos in our lives. My phone buzzed. Nathan was calling again.
I sighed and answered. "Hey," I said quietly.
"Are you okay?" His voice sounded worried. "The reporters attacked me during my morning run. Three of them jumped out from behind bushes."
I leaned against the railing. "We’re okay. How’s Phoebe? This mess might hurt her too."
"Dad got more security for her. She’s safe," Nathan said. "I’m more worried about Snow. She can’t run and play outside anymore. Every pup needs that."
My chest felt tight. My daughter should have a normal childhood. She shouldn’t be chased by reporters or stuck inside like a prisoner.
"Yeah, I’m worried about her too."
We were both quiet. I just listened to him breathing on the other end. Even with everything pulling us apart—Sophia, Kieran, now these reporters—something still connected us.
"How are you doing?" Nathan finally asked. "You know you can do whatever you need to end this mess."
I bit my lip. "This is about both of us, Nathan. It’s not just my choice."
"I’ll support whatever you think is best for Snow," he said. "Whatever you choose, I’m with you."
After I hung up with Nathan, I called Attorney Lee right away. My mother’s siblings lived in the north where the Foster family house was. I asked them to come to the city instead. The attorney said he would talk to them. They might come next week if they agreed.
For seven days, I worked from home to take care of Snow myself. I only went to the office for important meetings. Nathan stayed away like he promised, but he called every day to check on us.
When the day came to meet my mother’s family, I drove to the nice hotel where they were staying. Attorney Lee had called earlier. They were already waiting. I took a deep breath outside the door, fixed my navy blue jacket, and walked in with my head up.
Four people sat in the suite’s living area. Two women in expensive designer clothes and two men in fancy suits that screamed old money. The room turned cold the moment I walked in. The women looked at each other with disgust.
"Kyra, you’re just in time," Attorney Lee said warmly.
The man with wire glasses scoffed. "Just in time? She’s late, Attorney. She’s not the only one with a busy schedule here." He had a northern accent that made his words sound even ruder.
I stayed calm and bowed my head a little. "I apologize for keeping you waiting."
"Why don’t you apologize for making us come all this way too?" the woman in the red dress said. Her lips curled into a mean smile. "You think quite highly of yourself for someone raised in a southern pack with questionable standards."
Sylvia growled inside me. She was angry at the insult. Northern packs always looked down on southern packs. They thought we were less refined and powerful. I pressed my lips together and stood straighter. I wouldn’t bow again.
"Please sit down, Kyra," Attorney Lee said. "Let me introduce everyone. Mr. and Mrs. Foster, and Mr. and Mrs. Carter, this is Miss Kyra Monroe, Eva Foster’s biological daughter."
"Are you sure she’s Eva’s daughter?" Mr. Foster asked. He looked at me like I was dirt on his shoe.
I lost my patience. "I am very sure I am her biological daughter," I said, looking right at him. "I have all the papers to prove it. My blood carries the Foster name whether you like it or not."
"Such vulgar language," Mrs. Carter said quietly, looking at her sister.
I turned to Attorney Lee. "Attorney, could you please tell me which properties will be transferred to my name?"
"What a shameless little bitch!" Mrs. Carter gasped. Her face turned red.
I watched her reaction carefully. Her neck and face turned red with anger. This confirmed what I thought. These people only cared about power and money. Too bad for them, my mother was the legal heir. Now I was.
"Mrs. Carter," Attorney Lee said calmly, "Madam Foster’s will clearly states that Eva Foster or her child has the legal right..."
"Clearly, Attorney," Mr. Foster cut him off, "she’s only after the money. Once she gets everything, she’ll leave the family and abandon my mother’s legacy."
"That’s not my concern, Mr. Foster," the attorney said politely. "My job is to make sure the inheritance goes to the rightful heir as the will says."
Mrs. Foster stood up. Her diamond jewelry caught the light. "We are Eva’s siblings, Attorney. Don’t we have the right to manage the company and protect our mother’s legacy since Eva is dead? Why should it go to this girl who knows nothing about our ways?"
Attorney Lee stayed quiet. I clenched my jaw and studied these people. They shared my blood but were complete strangers. This was crazy! I had expected at least some warmth. After all, I was their long-lost sister’s daughter. But they didn’t seem to care that my mother had been kidnapped as a child. All they cared about was the money and power they were about to lose.
Mr. Foster got up and stared down at me. His eyes were as cold as a northern winter. "You’re too young and inexperienced to handle a company this big. What can you possibly do for an empire? The Foster Empire is more complex than anything you’ve seen in your little southern pack."
I stood up to match his height. "I’m the CEO of my father’s company," I said calmly.
He laughed. It sounded harsh and mean. "The company that almost failed because you got pregnant early, just like your mother? Like mother, like daughter. Both of you spread your legs before thinking about your future."
Sylvia snarled inside me. Her anger matched mine. "What do you know about my mother? You didn’t even know her."
"We know enough," he said with a nasty smile. "We’ve seen the news about you. Your personal life is messy and unstable. A Luna rejected by her Alpha, carrying a child whose father is unknown. Are you sure you can run a company while raising a child who needs your attention? I suggest you focus on your daughter before she gets kidnapped too."
His words hit me like punches, but I wouldn’t show weakness. This was what he wanted—to make me angry, to insult me until I gave up my claim. Now I understood why their mother didn’t trust them with her legacy. Greed had poisoned their souls.
"My personal life has nothing to do with my work," I said. "I became Luna and helped my Alpha manage the pack very well. I managed my father’s pack while fixing his failing business. You judge a woman by who she sleeps with, but the business world judges success by results and vision. I have both."
I turned to Attorney Lee and lifted my chin. "I want to take over the company. It’s my right. Please contact me about the paperwork. By next week, I expect the Foster Empire to be under my leadership where it belongs."
I turned my back on them and walked to the door. Their angry voices got louder behind me. I had come hoping for a peaceful meeting. Maybe even to find family. But if they wanted to insult me and my daughter, I wouldn’t back down. I hadn’t come this far just to be stepped on by these fake people. If they thought they were greedy, they would soon learn I could be ruthless when protecting what was mine.
Sylvia purred with satisfaction inside me. We were done being victims. From now on, we would make others tremble.
