Chapter 107: Chapter 107: Attacking the Heart

’If my little rabbit were still here, she’d know the rules of the Snake Clan—that we must discard inferior offspring...’

’She would surely cry.’

’She was like she was made of water, always with so many tears.’

’They were impossible to stop.’

The Duke had to hold her and comfort her for a long time every single time.

A complex emotion flashed in his golden, slitted pupils. The wind rose, and dead leaves drifted down. That delicate, charming figure he thought he’d just seen was nothing but a wistful fantasy.

...

The servant behind the Duke saw his master’s resolute attitude and dared not try to dissuade him any further.

’All I can do is mourn for the young masters,’ he thought.

It couldn’t be helped. The Snake Clan was incredibly strict about their bloodlines, never accepting anything less than perfect.

After all, Lord Bo Lan once had ten older brothers. On the long road to maturity, every single one of them had died.

Lord Bo Lan was the sole survivor.

And the strongest male the Snake Clan had ever known.

Just as the loyal servant was about to report back to the elders, he suddenly heard Lord Bo Lan’s voice from behind.

"Wait." The Duke’s body tensed. He stepped into the study. "Keep them for now."

’This isn’t just my bloodline.’

’They’re her cubs, too.’

’A memento left behind by that disobedient little rabbit.’

A total of six of them.

Not a single one could be missing.

The Duke walked down the corridor and straight into the room. He glanced at a dimly lit folding screen to one side and said, "Bring me her communication address."

He didn’t say her name, but his personal servant knew instantly who the "she" Lord Bo Lan was referring to.

"Yes, Duke."

The servant quickly returned, clutching a slip of paper.

The Duke sat at his desk.

The servant bowed and lit the tobacco in the Duke’s long, slender pipe.

The Duke clutched the slip of paper. On it was the young female’s communication number in Paradise.

’The master has always been so stubborn.’

’Even after learning Ms. Zhi Zhi’s exact whereabouts, he didn’t show any sign of it.’

’But this time, he finally couldn’t hold back.’

The servant said softly, "Ms. Zhi Zhi watched today’s livestream as well."

He handed over another slip of paper. "This is the bullet comment she posted."

Although the master had never mentioned Ms. Zhi Zhi since she left, as his personal servant, he knew in his heart that Lord Bo Lan missed her dearly.

No news concerning Ms. Zhi Zhi could be overlooked.

The Duke leaned back in the soft chair and slowly exhaled a puff of smoke.

He unfolded the paper. When he saw the words written on it, his golden, slitted pupils froze for a moment.

"The Duke only cares about Snake Clan females."

’What a heartless little rabbit!’

The Duke laughed.

"Haven’t I been good enough to her?" he asked, his voice chillingly quiet.

’When the little rabbit was with me, everything she wanted, and even things she didn’t know she wanted—if I had it, I gave it to her.’

’I slept in the study every night. No matter how busy I was, I would always come to see her.’

’I gave her all my free time.’

’Including my heart, and my body—’

’To say I only care about Snake Clan females is pure slander.’

The servant couldn’t possibly reply. He could only bow his head and keep his eyes down, feigning ignorance.

Finally, he heard the Duke say—

"Get out."

The servant let out a silent sigh of relief, hastily exiting the study and closing the door behind him.

The Duke shut himself in the study.

He removed his dark blue robe and walked barefoot over the smooth stones to the edge of a pool. Steam curled into the air as he sank into the water.

He rested his elbows on the edge of the pool behind him and tilted his head back. With a slight movement of his fingers in the water, a small object with deep blue butterfly wings flew from a nearby table and attached itself securely to his ear.

It was a communicator.

After a long internal struggle, he finally decided to dial the communication device at House 27 on Paradise Star Street in the Moon Rising Empire.

BEEP... BEEP... BEEP...

At the thought of possibly hearing the young female’s voice, his hand resting on the edge of the pool clenched slightly.

But the other end went unanswered.

After watching the livestream, Yu Zhizhi turned off the projector.

"Miss, remember to give the Mermaid his medicine."

Louis’s voice drifted from the kitchen. He placed a small white pill in Yu Zhizhi’s hand.

At the same time, he was holding a communicator, its pale screen displaying a few lines of text.

Yu Zhizhi stared blankly.

Louis made a "shushing" gesture.

—*If you want a baby from the Mermaid, winning his heart is the best strategy.*

Gripping the pill, she headed upstairs.

The Mermaid had the attic to himself.

The moment she entered the room, she was greeted by the scent of a sea breeze. The Mermaid was lying on the bed, a pale blue tail draped over the edge from beneath soft, white covers.

Sunlight from the skylight cast a faint golden sheen across the Mermaid’s pale face. He lay with his eyes peacefully closed, and a delicate mole on the tip of his nose drew one’s gaze.

Yu Zhizhi slowly walked over.

Yusen was awake.

He didn’t open his eyes, just waited quietly for the young female to feed him his medicine.

Yu Zhizhi was a little nervous.

Following Louis’s written instructions, she said softly, "Let’s... stop taking the medicine from now on, okay? I’ll cover for you."

Yusen opened his eyes. He looked at the young female standing beside him, his gaze lingering on her porcelain-white face for a few seconds.

His stare made her even more nervous.

Yu Zhizhi quickly said, "Let’s go out today! Is there anywhere you’d like to go?"

Yusen looked away, his gaze drifting to the skylight. A faint golden light reflected in his ice-blue eyes. His voice was soft and a little hoarse. "Nowhere."

There was nowhere he wanted to go.

He didn’t even want to return to the sea.

Yu Zhizhi didn’t know why a look of desolation crossed the Mermaid’s face. She had been a little afraid of an unmedicated Yusen, but in that instant, her fear vanished.

She went to him and knelt by the bed, holding the Mermaid’s wrists.

"Then how about we go play in the snow?"

Yu Zhizhi really wanted to go out and play, too.

Paradise’s recreational facilities were sparse, with seemingly nowhere for its regular inhabitants to have fun. But in this region draped in white, the snow itself was a source of endless fun.

"Whatever," Yusen replied. Seeing the hopeful look on the young female’s face, he suddenly didn’t want to disappoint her.

His tail gave a couple of gentle swishes, and he sat up. The white blanket slid down, but Yu Zhizhi caught it and gently placed it back on the bed.

When she saw Yusen was about to change, she quickly turned away.

She ran downstairs. "Louis, we’re going to play in the snow! Is there anything we should take with us?"

"I’ll prepare it, Miss."

Yu Zhizhi slipped on a thick, white, knee-length coat. She pushed open the door, and a refreshing blast of cold air hit her, clearing her head.

Just as she was about to go out, she was pulled back by Louis.

He wrapped a red scarf around her neck, his expression gentle. "Don’t catch a chill."

"Are you coming, Louis?"

"This is a date for you two. It wouldn’t be right for me to go." A smile touched Louis’s lips. "But don’t worry, I’ll be watching over you from the shadows."

"Oh..." Yu Zhizhi nodded.

Yusen came down from upstairs, his expression calm. As he passed Louis, he frowned slightly.

’There’s something about this guy’s aura that’s always unsettling.’

’He seems to be hiding something.’

Just then, the telephone rang.
