Chapter 246: Chapter 244: Make-up Chapter
This wasn’t something one could easily bring up with the other leaders...
Xie Changning followed behind Xie Changyi, both of them carrying a great many bags. The moment the leaders saw the bags, they knew: the Anong County daily chemical factory had new products again!
The leaders were more than happy to help test them.
The products from the daily chemical factory were always new and interesting. Their families loved them, they smelled pleasant, and their cleaning power was strong.
Besides, they were countless times more effective than foreign products.
Xie Changning distributed the samples to the leaders. "I’m here to trouble you all again. I hope you can help. After you’ve tried the products, please write down your thoughts in the feedback booklet you’ll find in the bags."
Xie Changning spoke with such sincerity that the leaders naturally wouldn’t turn her down.
The leaders agreed with a smile, then said to Xie Changning, "Go on, sit down. We were just waiting for you two."
This was a small preparatory meeting for an upcoming sharing session.
Xie Changning took a fountain pen and a notebook from her cloth bag and sat beside Xie Changyi, listening to the leaders’ ideas.
Whenever she had a question, she would raise her hand and ask.
"I have a question. Is this sharing session the beginning of something, or will it be a one-time event?" Xie Changning felt that Lin Province lacked any real investment conferences, making this sharing session an excellent opportunity.
It could stimulate the provincial economy, as well as the economies of sister provinces.
The angle of Xie Changning’s question was exactly what the leader was considering. "You mean, we should give this sharing session a proper name and then hold it at a fixed time every year?"
"Twice a year wouldn’t be out of the question, either."
Xie Changning’s words made the leader’s eyes light up. He thought her proposal was indeed excellent.
Then he laughed heartily. "Young people nowadays are truly something else. Such sharp minds!"
The Guangzhou Trade Fair targeted foreign countries, whereas Lin Province’s sharing session would target domestic trade.
Xie Changyi also thought this was an excellent opportunity.
Everyone wanted to know how Xie Changning operated and earned US Dollars from foreigners, and Lin Province could ride this wave of momentum to establish its own trade channels.
Killing two birds with one stone. It was a great plan.
The leader said to Xie Changning, "If you have any other ideas, don’t be afraid to voice them!"
So, Xie Changning laid out all her ideas for the leaders, such as the sharing session’s agenda, how participating factories could exhibit their product samples, and so on.
The sharing session would be different from the Guangzhou Trade Fair.
For the Guangzhou Trade Fair, the state paid for accommodations. For the sharing session, Xie Changning proposed they could send out invitations, but each session would have a fixed quota, inviting only ten factories.
Other factories would have to pay their own way to attend.
If they wanted to learn, they would have to pay to learn.
"This... will that really work?" Hearing Xie Changning say they wouldn’t cover food and lodging, the leaders grew hesitant.
Xie Changyi glanced at Xie Changning and understood her reasoning.
The sharing session was, in essence, a conference on how to make money. But people don’t treasure things they get for free. Only by paying for something would everyone come to value it.
Since they couldn’t guarantee everyone would appreciate the opportunity, they would make them pay for it to ensure they did.
Besides, Xie Changning’s time was valuable, too.
Helping was one thing, but there had to be boundaries.
"I think Changning’s proposal is quite good. The leaders might want to consider it." Xie Changyi stood behind Xie Changning’s idea, which made everyone frown.
Xie Changyi then explained to everyone the reasoning behind having attendees pay for their own food and lodging.
After hearing Xie Changyi’s explanation, the leaders felt that it was indeed a viable method.
Sometimes, if something was given for free, some people would assume that Xie Changning wasn’t sharing any of her true expertise—that anything she was willing to tell them for free must be just superficial principles.
The leaders exchanged glances and approved Xie Changning’s proposal.
The meeting went on for the better part of the day as they continued to discuss the details of the sharing session: how many days it should last, how much time to allocate for each segment, and so on.
After all the procedures were finalized, the head leader couldn’t help but praise Xie Changning.
"Comrade Xiao Xie is truly young and promising! If Comrade Xiao Xie didn’t have so many projects at her factory right now, I would really want to transfer her back to Chuncheng."
’With Xie Changning in Chuncheng, the city’s factories wouldn’t have to worry about sales!’
Xie Changning smiled. "Even if you asked me to come back now, Sir, I couldn’t. The laboratory in Anong County has just been completed, and I have to oversee it. Otherwise... when would we ever get our cellular phones up and running?"
The leaders’ hearts pounded with excitement at the mention of cellular phones.
They already had these wireless telephones themselves, but without a signal source, they were useless!
You can’t imagine the frustration!
The leader nodded. "Just keep up the good work. You have our full support!"
Xie Changning inclined her head, showing her determination to complete the task.
After they left the leaders’ office, Xie Changyi finally spoke to Xie Changning. "I really thought the leader was going to transfer you back."
To be honest, Xie Changyi had actually been hoping for that to happen.
However, she also knew that Xie Changning’s career had only just taken off, so she probably wouldn’t return.
Xie Changning shook her head. "The factories in Anong County will gradually expand in the future. I don’t need a transfer." ’Anong County is perfectly fine.’
’If I can manage to stimulate the entire economy of Anong County, that in itself would be a major accomplishment.’
"You’re a girl with your own ideas. Do whatever you want to do. All the family wants is for you to be happy."
"Mm! I will!"
The two of them chatted as they walked downstairs.
Since they hadn’t eaten, the two sisters went to the restaurant next door for a meal. While they ate, Xie Changning told her about what had happened the day before.
Xie Changyi’s brows furrowed slightly.
"A social mixer?" She didn’t quite approve of Xie Changning agreeing to it. "I know it’s not good to say this, but... being a soldier doesn’t necessarily mean someone has good character."
"Many people only join the army because they have no other options."
"It’s not because they’re particularly passionate about it."
"This is especially true for the rank-and-file soldiers; their quality is a mixed bag."
"Yi Han’s superiors came to talk to me. It was difficult to refuse, so I just set some requirements." Xie Changning then explained what her conditions were.
After hearing them, Xie Changyi couldn’t help but chuckle.
"That’s a solution only you could come up with. But your conditions aren’t unreasonable. They should indeed filter out some of the men with poor qualifications or character."
Besides, since their superiors were the ones who brought it up, they wouldn’t be in a position to object to Xie Changning’s conditions.
They could only agree.
"Fundamentally, I don’t like getting involved in this kind of thing." ’Being a matchmaker isn’t easy. If things go wrong and one party feels wronged, the matchmaker has to step in and act as a judge.’
She had no desire to get mixed up in other people’s romantic affairs.
Xie Changning didn’t like to invite trouble.
Xie Changyi knew that, but it was a situation where refusal was impossible. The only choice was to try and handle it as well as possible.
"Do you have a plan?"
"I have a few very independent young women at my factory, as well as two university graduates. I imagine... the matchmaking probably won’t be successful."
Xie Changning just smiled.
