Chapter 85: Origin Pulse
"Roaar~"
Rio once again countered with the divine move. In the sky, Charizard’s purple flames clashed with the two streams of fire from Archer’s Pokémon. This time, Sacred Fire didn’t overwhelm them as quickly as before, but it still slowly consumed the opposing flames, pushing forward steadily.
"How is this possible? Could the flames from this Charizard truly be the legendary flames of Ho-Oh?" Archer was filled with shock and disbelief.
Just moments ago, he’d recalled the origin of the words "Sacred Fire"—the flames of the legendary Pokémon Ho-Oh, said to possess endless, all-consuming power. No other flame could rival it. He hadn’t believed it at first—how could a Charizard wield Ho-Oh’s fire? He’d only read about it in ancient texts. But now, he was forced to believe it. There was no other explanation for the sheer, incomprehensible power of those flames.
"Sabrina—attack the trainer!" Archer’s expression darkened as he signaled his subordinate to use psychic powers against Rio. He admitted his earlier arrogance. But now, for Team Rocket’s goal, he was willing to use any means—no matter how dirty.
Sabrina understood and exchanged a telepathic command with Alakazam. The next second—
Whoosh— Rio was lifted off the ground, flying toward Acher’s position, with several psychic blades aimed at him.
The sudden turn of events caught Rio off guard. He shouted in panic: "Charizard!"
"Roaar~" Charizard instantly abandoned the beam clash, swooped in front of Rio, and with a single claw strike, shattered the incoming Psycho Cuts. Then it grabbed Rio and shot upward, quickly escaping Alakazam’s psychic range.
"Bastards! Can’t win fair, so you play dirty?!" Rio was drenched in sweat, having narrowly escaped with his life. He hadn’t expected them to go after him directly—unable to beat Charizard, they’d tried to kill him instead.
"Fine—let’s see how you like having two divine moves come at you at once!" Rio pulled out another Poké Ball and tossed it toward Archer and Sabrina.
With a flash of light, Munchlax appeared right in front of them.
"Munchlax, Metronome!"
"Ka~" Munchlax raised its paws and began to wave them.
Sabrina’s eyes widened as bad memories flooded back. An icy chill ran down her spine.
"No—run!" She was about to use Teleport to flee, but Archer grabbed her arm.
"What are you scared of?! I told you—last time was just bad luck! It’s just a Metronome—what’s there to be afraid of?!" Archer barked, then immediately commanded his Pokémon to attack Munchlax.
"Houndoom, Flamethrower!"
"Magmortar, Blast Burn—take out that Munchlax!"
"Hound~"
"Mag~"
Two streams of scorching flames shot toward Munchlax. Just as they were about to hit, Charizard appeared above Munchlax, shielding it with a wall of purple Sacred Fire.
At that moment, Munchlax entered its divine state.
"Ka~" It floated in the air, radiating a powerful pressure just like Charizard. Behind it, six blue orbs materialized, gathering azure energy. The sky above darkened with roiling storm clouds, as if a torrential downpour was about to break.
"Th-this..." Archer’s pupils dilated. "What move did it just roll?!"
His mind raced, desperately trying to recall any move that could cause the sky to change like this—but his brain nearly crashed before he found an answer.
"Run—now!" He shouted at Sabrina.
Sabrina shot him a glare. Now you want to run? I told you to run, and you wouldn’t listen. Now the move’s already been unleashed, and you want me to drag you along?! I barely have time to save myself!
Meanwhile, the six blue orbs behind Munchlax completed their charge, and six powerful beams of light erupted, immediately engulfing Houndoom and Magmortar alongside Charizard’s Sacred Fire. Sabrina tried to escape with Archer, but the speed and power of the two divine moves made it impossible to save him. When the attack came, she made the cold decision to abandon her foolish leader and fled with Alakazam.
In an instant, they reappeared a hundred meters away.
Rio didn’t chase her—he knew that with her psychic powers, he couldn’t catch her unless he abandoned Lavender Town and pursued her relentlessly with Charizard. But if he did that, Archer would likely escape. And between Archer and Sabrina, the choice was clear: a General definitely had more money than a high-ranking executive.
So, as soon as Munchlax’s move finished, Rio tossed it a few Energy Cubes and rushed over to the dazed Archer, kicking him to the ground.
"Run now, will you?!" Rio growled. If you can get away, I’ll— well, that saying didn’t really work in Chinese. But he didn’t care—the point was the intimidation.
SMACK! Rio slapped Archer across the face.
All because of this bastard, his brand-new Lavender Gym was completely destroyed. He wouldn’t rest until he’d taken every last cent from this scumbag.
Archer, jolted back to reality by the kick and slap, glared at Rio: "You little—!"
He tried to get up and fight back.
SMACK! Another slap landed. Rio planted his foot on Archer’s chest and looked down at him.
"You what?! Both your Pokémon are down—what gives you the right to talk back?! Or do you think your subordinates can rescue you from my Charizard?"
"Roaar~" Charizard posed behind Rio, hands on its hips, looking absolutely smug. That’s right—this genius is just that awesome.
Lying on the ground, Archer looked at the arrogant Rio and the powerful Charizard behind him. His anger faded, replaced by silence. After a moment, he spoke quietly: "What move did your Munchlax just roll? Do you know what it was?"
"Origin Pulse—the signature move of Kyogre, the legendary Pokémon of the Hoenn region." Rio didn’t bother hiding it. He’d recognized the move instantly—clearly the arch-nemesis of his boy Groudon.
"Kyogre? That was Kyogre’s move?" Archer was stunned, clearly familiar with the legendary Pokémon. What struck him even more was Rio’s tone—as if Munchlax rolling Kyogre’s move was nothing unusual.
"Is your Charizard using Ho-Oh’s Sacred Fire?" Archer asked.
"Yes."
"How is that possible?! That’s Ho-Oh’s flame! And how can it re-evolve?!"
"Want to know?" Rio raised an eyebrow.
"Yes, yes!" Archer nodded eagerly, practically trembling with excitement. If this got out, it would shake the Pokémon world—Charizard prices would skyrocket, and researchers would flock to study them.
Rio leaned in and smiled. "Then give me your bank card PIN."
