Chapter 74: Primeape’s Love Magic Spin

The blue Gyarados collapsed moments later.

Everyone stared at Rio and his Red Gyarados in shock. Looking at their stunned expressions, Rio had only two words: Satisfying! This was exactly the reaction he wanted. This was why he’d caught the Red Gyarados—for its legendary-tier constitution, the ability to spam Hyper Beam like a basic attack. You dare to trade Hyper Beams with me? Fine. After the clash, unless you one-shot me, you’re dead.

"Why—why can your Gyarados use Hyper Beam consecutively?!" the five-badge holder Dafeng shouted, utterly incredulous. His question echoed what many were thinking.

"No reason—just talent," Rio said, walking over to the Red Gyarados. The fierce-looking beast lowered its head and let Rio pet it with a gentle expression. Ever since Rio had made getting beaten by Primeape a reward, this itchy-skinned Gyarados had seen its friendship skyrocket. It wouldn’t be long before the first system reward unlocked.

"You did great today. I’ll have your monkey brother give you an extra beating or two," Rio said, patting its head. The Red Gyarados nodded happily.

Rio couldn’t help but laugh at its eagerness, then turned to look at Dairo—the man who had just gotten his sedative. "Boss—was that a landslide win? I get the 200,000, right?" he asked cheerfully.

What a good man. Even after being driven to sedatives, he was still funding this poor soul. And thanks to this battle, the Red Gyarados had gained two levels, rising from 35 to 37. Rio sincerely hoped he wouldn’t actually keel over.

On the other side, Dairo looked like he’d swallowed a mouthful of crap. Red-faced, he reluctantly nodded. After cursing the blue Gyarados trainer as useless in his mind, he said to Rio: "Don’t get too cocky—there are still two more trainers. Win against them first."

"Sure thing, boss. Whatever you say. But..." Rio suddenly looked bashful and rubbed his hands together. "Are there prizes for the next battles too?"

Dairo: (╬▔皿▔)

Though Rio hadn’t said "you’re backing out" this time, his smug expression was somehow even more infuriating.

"I’ll go next." The six-badge holder stepped forward. "My Venusaur is very confident of victory."

He sent out a Level 45 Venusaur.

"Venus~"

Dairo looked at the six-badge trainer’s confident face and Venusaur’s massive frame, nodding inwardly. The five-badge one was probably a fraud. The six-badge one should be much more reliable.

He waved his hand: "Same deal—the winner gets 100,000, and a landslide gets 200,000."

Rio’s face lit up. Thanks, boss. He recalled the Red Gyarados and reached for another Poké Ball. His Red Gyarados could probably beat a Level 45 Venusaur, but a landslide win was uncertain.

With a flash of light and a "Pu-cha," Primeape appeared.

SMACK! The moment it appeared, Rio gave it a loving slap on the head.

"Pu-cha~" Primeape instantly turned red-hot and looked up at Rio.

"Primeape—that thing is worth 200,000 League coins! Get it!" Rio pointed at Venusaur.

"Pu-cha~"

Without waiting for the referee to start the match, Primeape charged.

"Venusaur, Power Whip—crush it!" the Venusaur trainer quickly countered.

"Venus~"

Venusaur looked down at the charging Primeape and lashed out with thick vines, ready to turn the monkey into a corpse.

But it miscalculated.

The moment the vines were about to strike, Primeape caught them.

"Pu-cha~"

Then, to everyone’s shock, Primeape began spinning—Love’s Magic Spin. One turn, two turns, three turns—wild, relentless spinning. No one knew how many turns it would take.

"Venus~"

"Venus~"

"Venus~"

Venusaur cried out in panic, whipping Primeape frantically, but Primeape refused to let go—it only spun faster and faster.

Even President Takuma was stunned. Then he remembered something and quickly called to his secretary: "Quick—record this! Send it to the company!"

"Yes, sir!"

Primeape’s performance reminded him of a recent project—creating a custom Ghost-type suit that could withstand Fighting-type attacks. But they had no suitable Fighting-type Pokémon to test it with, and the deadline was approaching. They’d even invited Saffron’s Fighting-type Gym Leader to test it, but his Hitmonchan couldn’t break the prototype, let alone the final version. They couldn’t ask the client to bring their own Pokémon—that would be beneath a world-class company.

Now, seeing Rio’s Primeape in action, Takuma saw an opportunity—he could pay Rio to have Primeape assist with the testing.

Half a minute later, the battle was over.

Venusaur was defeated. Under everyone’s stunned gazes, its vines snapped and it went flying—out of the estate entirely. The trainer chased after it like a madman, shouting: "Venusaur! My Venusaur!"
