Chapter 347: Throwing Balls at Palkia

That’s right — golden flames. Charizard’s Sacred Fire had transformed from purple to the same golden flames as Ho-Oh’s.

Origin Forme Palkia, locked in battle with Mewtwo, was startled when X-Form Charizard suddenly attacked. Then came fury — it couldn’t believe a mere Charizard would dare to attack the great Space God Palkia. Utterly presumptuous!

So Palkia, after dodging one of Mewtwo’s Psycho Cuts, threw an Aura Sphere at the Charizard that had spat flames at it. The Aura Sphere and Sacred Fire collided — and the result was obvious. Palkia’s Aura Sphere was completely overwhelmed by Charizard’s Sacred Fire, which reached Palkia in an instant and dealt significant damage.

Palkia stared at Charizard in shock. It couldn’t believe its Aura Sphere couldn’t overpower the attack, and that it had been burned by a single flame. Unbelievable — Dialga would laugh itself silly if it heard about this.

Mewtwo, who had been cut off, was both shocked that Charizard could hurt Palkia and annoyed at Rio — it knew Charizard’s involvement was Rio’s doing.

"This is my fight." Mewtwo’s voice echoed in Rio’s mind.

"Mewtwo, time is against us. A battle at your level can’t be resolved quickly. Dragging it out will not only cause severe damage to this world — it could attract the legendary creator god Arceus. Even Rayquaza would be easily dealt with by it." Rio explained.

"So we need to end this now. If you truly want to fight, we can do it in the Distortion World after I capture Palkia and Giratina. But right now, I need you and Charizard to work together to take it down quickly — even if you hate me for it."

Mewtwo looked at Rio’s serious expression. Its face grew solemn. The creator god Arceus? Something that could easily deal with Rayquaza? Dragging this out could summon it? Mewtwo pondered.

After a moment, it understood. Rio was right — if such a powerful being showed up, it wouldn’t be worth it. It could barely beat Rayquaza — against something that could crush Rayquaza, it would be asking for a beating. Better to follow Rio’s lead, capture Palkia, and find another time to fight.

With that settled, Mewtwo no longer hesitated. It raised its right hand and gathered a Psystrike, firing it alongside Charizard’s Sacred Fire at Palkia.

Facing two divine moves at once, Origin Forme Palkia desperately used Spacial Rend. But one divine move against two was no match. Palkia’s Spacial Rend was overwhelmed and extinguished. The two divine moves forced Palkia to dodge frantically — it dodged Psystrike, but couldn’t avoid Sacred Fire, which struck it hard, leaving it badly burned.

"Palkia!!!" — Are you really a Charizard?!

After several more exchanges, Palkia asked in shock. It couldn’t understand — this Charizard’s combat power felt even fiercer than the one calling itself Mewtwo. Against Mewtwo, it had been evenly matched, but in a direct skill comparison with this Charizard, it had come out worse? And this Charizard could even use Ho-Oh’s divine move. WHY?

What was wrong with the world today? It had been fighting Dialga in the dimensional space when two jerks and a human showed up. It fought them and got beaten. It thought it was because it hadn’t entered Origin Forme. Now it had, and it was evenly matched with Mewtwo — but then a Charizard that could overpower it appeared? The world had gone mad. It was the Space God, not some roadside Caterpie.

Down below, the Eterna Historical Museum director was equally stunned — a Charizard battling the Space God Palkia, using golden flames that could wound it!

"That’s Rio’s Charizard, isn’t it? I remember Rio has a Charizard." The director marveled, then raised his binoculars to focus on Charizard. But the Charizard was too large — he couldn’t see clearly who was on its back, only a vague human shape.

"Director, that can’t be Rio’s Charizard. The Sinnoh League just questioned the Kanto League and held a video call — they confirmed that Rio is in Kanto with his Pokémon." The staff member said.

The director was quiet at first, but then shook his head. "No, that is Rio’s Charizard. I think I just saw the person on its back — it’s Rio." He said excitedly. "Go tell the League to hold another video call with Kanto. I bet the ’Rio’ on the other end is a Ditto in disguise. If not, have him release his Charizard and Mega Evolve it — I know his Charizard can Mega Evolve, but Ditto can’t. If it can’t, then Rio is right above us right now."

"Yes, Director." The staff member ran off. Soon, the Sinnoh League received the message and called Serīna again.

Serīna was furious when she heard the Sinnoh League suspected Rio was a Ditto in disguise. "Stop slandering us! Mr. Rio is right here in Kanto! He never went to your backwater Sinnoh! That museum director is blind — just because you see a Charizard doesn’t mean it’s Mr. Rio’s!" She fired back.

But the Sinnoh League insisted — the director had seen Rio, and demanded another video call, asking Rio to release his Charizard and Mega Evolve it, or else he was a Ditto. Serīna, exasperated, complied and relayed the request to Zoroark.

Zoroark was happy to oblige — it was the Phantom’s Overlord; creating an illusion was child’s play. It could even fake Arceus if it wanted. So another video call was held between the Sinnoh League and Zoroark-as-Rio. Following their demands, Zoroark released a Luxury Ball containing a black Charizard, then had it Mega Evolve into Y Form.

Once again, the Sinnoh League was left stunned — their accusations refuted. They could only stammer an apology: "We’re sorry, Mr. Rio. The Eterna museum director was talking nonsense. We’ll reprimand him." They hung up.

"Such lunatics — always trying to frame you for something." Serīna muttered in annoyance.

Soon, the Eterna museum director received the League’s reply — and was stunned to learn Rio was in Kanto.

"What?! I just saw the person on Charizard’s back — it’s Rio! How can he be in Kanto? How could he release a Charizard that can Mega Evolve? They’re right above us!" The director couldn’t accept it.

"Director, the League no longer trusts you. They said if you keep spreading rumors about Rio, they’ll come after you." The staff member warned.

"But I’m telling the truth!" The director’s face was full of grievance. "Unless the Rio above us is an imposter..."

That thought made him pause. What if the Rio above them was fake? That would explain why the League saw Rio in Kanto — someone was impersonating him to stir up trouble.

"Yes, that must be it! But who would impersonate Rio? Remnants of the Hunter Organization? Or Team Galactic? It has to be one of them — only they’d have a motive."

"They want to make Sinnoh and Kanto enemies? Not on my watch!" The director grinned smugly. "Tell the League I’ve figured it out — this is likely the Hunter Organization remnants or Team Galactic impersonating Rio. Send reinforcements!"

"Understood, Director." The staff member ran off again. After he left, the director looked up at the sky, muttering: "Those damn Hunters and Team Galactic — trying to fool me? Not a chance! I’ve eaten more salt than you’ve walked roads."

"Still, Palkia — hang in there! Don’t let them catch you!"

Meanwhile, Palkia was barely holding on against Mewtwo and Charizard’s combined assault. It had no chance — evenly matched with Mewtwo, then a stronger Charizard joined in. Finally, a Dragon Claw from Charizard sent Palkia flying, reverting it from Origin Forme. The Lustrous Orb fell from the sky toward Eterna City.

"Quick! Have Eterna’s Grass-type Gym Leader, Gardenia, retrieve the Lustrous Orb!" The director shouted. He feared the evil Hunters or Team Galactic might steal it.

High above, Palkia, knocked out of Origin Forme, crashed into a forest outside Eterna City. Rio urged Charizard down and began his first capture attempt.

A flash of light — Palkia was drawn in. The ball shook, nearly making it to three shakes before Palkia burst out.

"Damn! Mewtwo, hit it with an Aura Sphere!" Rio commanded. Mewtwo fired, and Rio threw again. The ball shook twice before Palkia burst out again.

Rio sighed and ordered Mewtwo to use Psycho Cut. He threw a third time — just as the ground began to shake violently.

"What’s happening?" Rio looked around in alarm. It felt like a Pokémon using Earthquake — but any Pokémon that had seen Charizard, Mewtwo, and Palkia fighting should have fled long ago. Who would dare stay nearby?

Just then, a whirlpool formed in a forest lake — and a Pokémon Rio didn’t expect emerged: Giratina. Origin Forme Giratina. It burst from the lake, looking down at Rio, Mewtwo, Charizard, and Palkia. Its expression was fierce — until it saw Palkia lying on the ground, battered and broken. Then it looked like a bewildered husky.

Wait, something’s wrong. How did Palkia get beaten so badly?

"Palkia!!!" — Help me, Giratina! Help me!

Palkia, seeing Giratina, begged for help.

"Charizard, get ready — you’re the only one who can fight Giratina now." Rio said, raising an eyebrow. In his sight, Giratina’s level information appeared:
