Chapter 327: Fighting Two Deoxys (Two-in-One)
A spiral-shaped beam shot from Deoxys’s chest crystal, striking the meteorite. The meteorite responded with the same spiral glow.
"Is it awakening it, or communicating with it?"
Under a tree on Birth Island, Rio muttered as he watched Deoxys’s actions on the screen.
Meanwhile, his old acquaintance, Team Rocket’s Four General Apollo, felt deeply uneasy about Deoxys’s behavior. Following the principle of always interrupting the enemy’s actions, he shouted urgently:
"Hurry! Send out your Pokémon! Work with me to stop it!"
"Houndoom, Magmar — Flamethrower!" He commanded his two aces, who had just struggled back to their feet.
Both Pokémon gathered flames in their mouths. Other Rocket grunts also released their Pokémon.
Sensing the danger, Deoxys simply rotated its head a full 360 degrees — a terrifying sight — and glanced at the Rocket members. Its chest crystal glowed with a different kind of light.
The next second, Deoxys began splitting rapidly — one became two, two became four, four became eight. Within seconds, dozens of Deoxys clones filled the base. They formed layers of protection around the original Deoxys. Some blocked the attacks from Houndoom, Magmar, and the other Pokémon. Others began counterattacking.
And Deoxys’s clones kept multiplying.
"This Pokémon is too powerful! How can it create so many copies?!" Apollo cried out in terror.
The number of clones Team Rocket eliminated was far slower than the rate at which Deoxys produced them. For every five clones they destroyed, they’d turn around to find twenty more had appeared in the encirclement.
Damn it — the clones weren’t decreasing; they were increasing!
Meanwhile, their own Pokémon and Rocket members were being picked off one by one, thrown out of the base by Deoxys. Within less than three minutes, the base was packed with Deoxys clones — a dense, terrifying sea of them.
"General Apollo, what do we do?! At this rate, we’ll all be prisoners of this unknown Pokémon!" The Rocket scientist said nervously, glancing at the clones surrounding them. "Maybe we should retreat for now, then track this Pokémon later and return with Boss Giovanni to capture it!"
"Retreat?! Retreat my ass!" Apollo glared. "Do you think things will go according to your plan?! What if we retreat and can’t track it anymore?! How am I supposed to explain that to Boss Giovanni?!"
Ever since encountering that Rio, Apollo’s missions had been failing one after another. This time, he hadn’t even run into Rio — if he failed again, he’d have no face left to show Giovanni.
"I’m telling you — no one retreats! Even if we die here, we die! We trap it here and don’t let it leave!"
"Besides — if I’m not wrong, that Kanto Champion Rio must have already suffered at this Pokémon’s hands! This Pokémon came from the meteorite Boss Giovanni gave him! And since Rio hasn’t shown himself yet, he’s clearly helpless against it!"
"If we can capture it, Boss Giovanni will definitely see us in a new light!"
Apollo’s tone grew more excited as he spoke, already imagining presenting this Deoxys to Giovanni — and making sure to mention it came from the meteorite Giovanni had given to Rio.
The Rocket scientist beside him rolled his eyes. He thought Apollo was daydreaming. If even Kanto Champion Rio couldn’t handle this Pokémon, how could they? Apollo, don’t be delusional!
Just as the scientist was thinking this, the Deoxys clones surrounding them suddenly vanished. The base, once crowded with clones, now stood mostly empty.
"Hahahaha! The heavens favor us!" Apollo laughed in exhilaration, thinking something had gone wrong with Deoxys.
But seconds later, his laughter died. The meteorite that Deoxys had bathed in the spiral beam began to crack, sending out a series of snapping sounds.
"Oh no! The Pokémon inside the meteorite is about to emerge!" The Rocket scientist screamed in terror.
They couldn’t even handle one alien-like Pokémon — if a second one appeared, they were doomed!
As he spoke, the meteorite, now covered in cracks, burst with blinding white light — so bright that Apollo and everyone else instinctively closed their eyes. Even Rio outside the base could only see a field of white.
When the light faded, Apollo saw a second Deoxys — identical to the first. They floated side by side, hovering in midair, looking down at the Rocket members like gods observing mortals. Their eyes were filled with indifference.
"We’re finished." The scientist muttered. Apollo’s face tightened with panic. But he had no choice but to stand firm — he was the base’s commander.
"Houndoom, Magmar — Flamethrower!" He shouted.
Other Rocket members followed suit, commanding their Pokémon to attack. Facing their assault, the Deoxys that had broken in began to counter — but the newly awakened Deoxys raised a hand, stopping it.
The newly awakened Deoxys shifted from Normal Form to Attack Form — brimming with killing intent. Its two tentacles clasped together, forming a powerful shockwave that spread outward. Then came a shower of debris. Everything in the base — Pokémon and humans alike — was sent flying, crashing into walls and falling unconscious.
One of the things that broke was a livestream camera. Through that breaking, Deoxys sensed something. Its chest crystal emitted a blue spiral beam, scanning the ground — until it stopped beside a potted plant.
Deoxys turned to its companion. A beam of light shot into the other’s crystal. The other Deoxys immediately responded, forming a Psycho Cut blade midair and striking toward the potted plant — or rather, its shadow.
But just as the blade was about to strike, a powerful psychic force shattered it in midair.
"Kehehehe~"
A piercing cackle emerged from the shadow beside the potted plant. A lavender fat creature — equal parts cute and terrifying — rose from the shadows. It looked at the two Deoxys and said smugly:
"Gengar~" — Not bad. You two are the first Pokémon to discover me while I was hiding.
"Gengar~" — Come on, fight Old Ghost! Let Rio see who’s the strongest Pokémon on his team!
The two Deoxys exchanged glances. One of them extended its tentacles to the wall, grabbing a Rocket Houndoom and pulling it close. The Houndoom had been unconscious, but under the glow of Deoxys’s chest crystal, it awakened — though it lost all self-awareness. Its eyes glowed green, just like the Deoxys.
It let out a roar.
"Hound~" — Your name is Gengar, right? My partner and I are beings from space. I didn’t quite understand what you said — could you repeat it? But I can sense you’re quite strong. Become our subordinate — join us in ruling this world.
Those two roars carried a lot of information — and they made Gengar, who had been eager to fight, suddenly annoyed.
What did that mean? These two idiots wanted Old Ghost — a Gengar who had weathered centuries of storms — to serve these extraterrestrial beings? Become a traitor? Old Ghost wasn’t that kind of Pokémon!
"Gengar~" — Dream on! You want Old Ghost to serve you? You should be serving me!
Gengar growled, spreading its hands. Two Shadow Balls appeared and hurled toward each Deoxys.
The two Deoxys simultaneously shifted into Defense Form and used Barrier, blocking the Shadow Balls. After blocking, the possessed Houndoom roared again:
"Hound~" — Looks like you need some discipline before you’ll listen to us.
Outside the base, Rio had lost the livestream signal and was debating whether to go in. Two Deoxys — the Rocket grunts below were definitely in deep trouble. There was no way they could fight back. This was the perfect moment for him to step in and capture both Deoxys.
Just as he was thinking that, the ground beneath him shook. Two pitch-black energy balls burst from the mountain, blowing a massive hole through it. Then two Deoxys emerged side by side, flying out. A thick black mist followed them from inside the mountain.
Seeing this, Rio raised an eyebrow — Gengar had clearly engaged the Deoxys in battle.
"Roooar~" Charizard growled beside him.
Rio understood: Charizard was asking if it should join the fight.
"Let—" Rio instinctively reached for Mewtwo’s Poké Ball. But seeing Charizard’s eager eyes, he stopped.
He realized something: Charizard hadn’t participated in any high-level battles lately. The reason was simple — against guardian-level legendaries like Rayquaza, Kyogre, and Ho-Oh, Charizard’s current strength could only handle secondary legends like Entei. There was still a gap. How could he let Charizard go and get beaten up? Unless it unlocked its third friendship reward.
So he hadn’t let it join battles recently. But now, he felt he couldn’t keep Charizard out any longer. Charizard clearly wanted to prove itself. If he refused and sent Mewtwo instead, Charizard might feel slighted, and its friendship could drop.
Since that was the case...
"Charizard, go. This battle is yours and Gengar’s — help me capture these two Deoxys." Rio smiled.
Charizard nodded excitedly, flicking the Mega Stone on its tail. Rio understood.
"Mega Evolve, Charizard. Show those Pokémon from space what a one-in-a-million genius of the Charizard line looks like." Rio revealed the Key Stone on his chest.
The Key Stone resonated with the Charizardite Y on Charizard’s tail. Light flashed. Charizard’s form transformed into its Y Form. Its level rose from 74 to 84.
Yes — Charizard’s base level had reached 74 through its own training at Mt. Silver. That was why Rio felt comfortable sending it to fight alongside Gengar. One-on-one, it might not beat two level 88 Deoxys — but with Gengar at level 90, the combined power was evenly matched.
"Roooar~" After Mega Evolving, Charizard flicked its tail at Rio, signaling him to get on its back.
"No need, Charizard. Taking me along will only hold you back. You’ll fight better alone. I’ll have Mewtwo carry me up later." Rio smiled.
The real reason was that he didn’t want to risk it. Both Deoxys outleveled Charizard. If he rode on Charizard’s back, he might get caught in the crossfire. He was now Kanto Champion, commanding many legends — there was no need to take unnecessary risks.
"Roooar~" Charizard didn’t think much of it — it agreed with Rio’s logic — and flew off to join the fight.
Gengar was surprised to see Charizard joining. After hearing Charizard’s explanation, it was thrilled. If Mewtwo had joined, Old Ghost would have been overshadowed. With Charizard, the spotlight stayed on Gengar.
"Gengar~" — Little Charizard! Today we brothers work together! Let’s crush these space idiots!
"Roooar~" — Crush them!
With that, Charizard and Gengar clashed with the two Deoxys above Birth Island. Rio released Mewtwo to carry him into the air, watching from a distance.
Against two opponents, Gengar and Charizard initially seemed evenly matched. But once Charizard joined, the advantage began to shift toward Gengar’s side.
