Chapter 265: Lucian Left Stunned

Bronzong glowed faintly as it charged toward Mewtwo. Mewtwo’s Psystrike finished forming. Midway, the Psystrike collided with Bronzong.

The result—

"Bron~" With a pained cry, Bronzong was instantly knocked out by Mewtwo’s Psystrike, right before the stunned eyes of the entire stadium.

Lucian’s mind went blank. He stared at the fallen Bronzong in disbelief. "No—how is this possible?! My Bronzong... was one-shot by that Pokémon called Mewtwo?!"

He hadn’t even gotten the chance to show off his commanding skills—and it was already over.

In the guest section, the Sinnoh executives covered their faces and sighed. See? This is what happens when you’re too confident.

In the audience, Ace and the other three attendants let out snickers. Sinnoh’s Elite Four really are full of themselves, one after another. Now you see your mistake, don’t you?

In the contestants’ area below, Flint watched Lucian’s spirit begin to crack and grinned. Regretting it yet? Feeling as lost as I did yesterday? Still going to say you’re different from me? Still want to win fair and square? Just you wait—there’s more shock coming. The abuse you’re about to get will be worse than mine. You still have five more Pokémon to send out. I only had three. Even though we both lost, I’ll definitely come out looking more dignified.

"Impossible—I’m Lucian, the Psychic-type Elite Four! How could my ace be one-shot by an opponent’s Pokémon?! Even Unova Champion Alder couldn’t do that—so how could a newly appointed Kanto Champion?!"

"Maybe my Bronzong wasn’t well-rested. That must be it—yes, that’s definitely it." Lucian was in denial, his mind refusing to accept reality. He recalled Bronzong and sent out his second Pokémon—a Level 67 Medicham.

"Medicham—High Jump Kick!" The moment it appeared, Lucian struck first.

"Medi~" Medicham launched a flying kick at Mewtwo with incredible speed. Mewtwo raised its right hand—this time, an Aura Sphere formed in its palm.

Whoosh—

Just as Medicham was about to land the kick, Mewtwo used Teleport without any command from Rio, vanishing and reappearing behind Medicham. The Aura Sphere fired point-blank into Medicham’s side.

"Medi~" Medicham cried out as it was slammed into the ground, leaving a crater. It tried to stand—but collapsed, unable to continue.

The Lily of the Valley Conference fell silent once more. The crowd stared in shock at the humanoid Pokémon hovering in midair. It felt even more powerful and oppressive than Charizard or Annihilape from the day before. A simple raise of its hand, and an Elite Four-level Pokémon was down.

"Look at Lucian," someone said. They noticed that the Psychic-type Elite Four was even more shocked than they were—his hands were visibly trembling.

"Could it be... that there was never any fixed match? That the Champion from Kanto really is just that much stronger than our Elite Four? Did we wrong the Sinnoh League?" Some in the crowd began to realize they might have overreacted the day before.

"What was the point of all this?" Cynthia sighed from the sidelines, covering her face as she watched Lucian’s clear distress. Rio had been willing to throw the match and let the Psychic-type Elite Four win. But Lucian had to be stubborn—and now he was stuck fighting a losing battle.

"Mr. Lucian—didn’t you say you were different from Flint? That what he couldn’t do, you could? You still have four Pokémon left—prove it to me now," Rio said with a smirk from across the battlefield.

Lucian looked at Rio, then at Mewtwo in the air. I’m scared—honestly scared. But I can’t back down now. Even if I can’t win this entire match, I have to take down that Mewtwo with my remaining four Pokémon.

Steeling himself, Lucian recalled Medicham and sent out his third—and strongest—Pokémon: a Level 71 Gallade.

Rio raised an eyebrow. The Sinnoh Elite Four’s overall strength seemed a bit higher than Kanto’s—Flint’s ace yesterday was Level 70 Infernape, and now Lucian had a Level 71 Gallade. He suspected the other two Elite Four members also had Level 70-plus aces.

"Gallade—Psycho Cut!" Lucian commanded.

Four seconds later, Gallade was down—one-shot by Mewtwo’s Psystrike. Ten seconds after that, Lucian’s fourth Pokémon—a Level 69 Alakazam—fell. Half a minute later, his fifth—a Level 69 Espeon—fell. A minute later, his final Pokémon—a Level 70 Mr. Mime—collapsed.

Faced with this result, Lucian fell to his knees, muttering: "Am I dreaming?"
